I've driven many of these roads. Nice to seem them all again. Riding out PCH is great in a car, but spending it on a bike for any length of time always seemed like something I wouldn't want to do for more than a minute or two. Stay safe, Phil!
Phil, I'm currently in Singapore, via Australia and I've ridden those roads many a time. I may never again, but your video bought it all back. Keep 'em coming and may your sense of humor continue to be as close to an Australian's as it currently is ..
‘Not as smoggy as it looks but not not smoggy’. Thanks for making that not unclear but not not unclear. I think. My ride tomorrow may be as much fun. I hope. Peace.
I like the way you measure time, "this as been here since 2 fires", "this camel lives here since 4 fires but we only got To know each other 2 fires ago" 😂😂😂✌
Thanks Phil Had some lovely times in that area and up to into Santa Barbara (work) about 20 years ago. Your ride brought back some good memories of a younger fitter me. Love to go cycling that way again before i cant turn a crank, keeping the climbing legs active here in the Peak district so shout be good for at least another 5 years or so……. hopefully.
Glad that you posted this. Did all of these rides/climbs in the mid-80's. Agreed -- Latigo is the King/Queen. Great riding in Topanga Canyon as well. A TON of history in that canyon. I could tell you a few stories, but ....
Michael Burgess thunder, heavy rain, humid AF on the last day of July here... typical Irish summer. If only there was a middle ground between ridiculously hot and ridiculously wet summers
Thank you so much for the details on the Picky Bar! I LOVE the ingredients. I used to use Larabars a lot and there are just too many whole pieces of nuts.
@@ernie12man Powerbars Got old for me the first time I ate one. Tried different kinds, but never liked them. With Lara bars, I just try to avoid eating one flavor too much and have started using them with Rise protein bars: 2.1 oz, 280 calories, 20 g protein, and 20 g carbs. Only 3 ingredients, ground almond, whey protein powder, and honey. If you like almonds and honey, they taste great.
I wish I could go back in time to ‘08-10 when I was stationed at Pt. Mugu Naval air station and get into cycling in my early 20’s and ride some of those badass climbs.
Phil, thanx for the great Video. Bout the only Thing that would make want to travel to the US right now... One questions: from bottle three on out- do you drink pure water or do you bring anything to put in it in your Rides?
That weird structure, back it the day there was a Dome house thing more near Kanan on Latigo maybe it burned if that's the area, been decades since I went down that, Grew up in Agoura those are my home roads but at the time I was on a motorcycle. I'm a month into my road bike comeback but today I must have been at a low biorhythm I was dyeing. Love your channel Aloha from Maui 🤙
Rock store being closed to motors is such a boon for me as a beginner cyclist. Challenging (for me) climb without having to worry about being flattened. Santa Monica Mountains are a gem. What is your take on Deer Creek Rd further north?
They closed some of the parkways in Minneapolis to allow pedestrians and cyclists more room to recreate at a distance. West River Parkway is one such road that runs through the majestic Mississippi River Gorge. It's road cycling heaven. It's a shame it's opening to cars again. Edit: "GWAGON" lmao. Please do a Frank Lloyd Wright tour of LA!
Hey Phil, half-assed RU-vidr question: What kinda mount do you use for your camera that makes it easy to switch from bar mounted to hand-held selfie? I've done a little selfie stuff with a swivel mount, but end up showing viewers nasal inspection shot from the bar mount psoition.
I'd guess it's 2 different cameras. 1 - hard mounted on the bars and 2 - handheld on a short cam stick that can be put in his rear pocket when not in use.
That was awesome, I'm about ready to get out on my "not quite as awesome" ride of about 20 miles , 647 ft. from Petaluma to Rohnert Park on varied terrain, cool trails including the Smart Train Trail that I happened upon by accident from a dirt road a few weeks ago.
I was always afraid to ride the wine country backroads. As beautiful as they are, the high percentage of drunk drivers always worried me. I guess that isn't as big of a problem with all of the wine tasting rooms closed.
@@michaelb1761 Mostly stay off the roads that are used to travel around the area and ride early enough. There are a lot of less used roads in the area. If you finish your ride around 12pm you miss most of the traffic.
It seems Contador's record is now broken by 20 mins :o Although the new record holder apparently had a solid tailwind on the climb for the whole thing.
I don't don't know how many times it took to see the M logo on the side of the helmet for it to to click (partly because I watch so many mountain bikers that I see it all the time), but wait? monster sponsors and endurance athlete? Man the times have changed.
Since you did an Everesting, how about a "Monsing". Olympus Mons, the tallest mountain in solar system on the planet Mars is only 82,021 feet tall (25Km). Since no one has done it yet, you can be the first. Grate tour of LA, thanks.
There used to be a greying tower alone on the sea You became the light on the dark side of me Love remained a drug that's the high and not the pill But did you know that when it snows My eyes become large and the light that you shine can be seen? Baby, I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the grey Ooh, the more I get of you, the stranger it feels, yeah Now that your rose is in bloom A light hits the gloom on the grey There is so much a man can tell you, so much he can say You remain my power, my pleasure, my pain Baby, to me, you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny Won't you tell me, is that healthy, baby? But did you know that when it snows My eyes become large and the light that you shine can be seen? Baby, I compare you to a kiss from a…
The camel family Camelidae evolved in North America. Llamas and alpacas are both part of the family. Maybe you were looking at a clone camel created from ancient DNA of the extinct Camelops genus. With the wealth in Malibu, anything is possible!
Wow nearly 106 miles of climbing. Makes me want to go and climb the 200 meters 10% hill I was dreading. I think Alberto Contador has something up his sleeve apart from his Arm. Ie I don’t think he went all out so wait for the shocking return if you took the record. Sorry.
@@rcranes2227 In French 'dromadaire' has 3 syllables so even/odd number of syllables implies even/odd number of humps. Unfortunately this mnemonic does not work in English! :D
@@worstretirementever Idea : start your own team and a series just devoted to crushing climbs. America needs this. The closest new thing we have is gravel, which is cool, but it's only gravel.
