In this video we visit Sweetwater Creek State Park to train for an upcoming backpacking trip.
Due to Sweetwater Creek's location, these trails can be over run with foot traffic which makes this one of the worst state parks in Georgia to train for a backpacking trip.

great training hike, that is definitely more than a creek... more like a river. And great old cotton mill too. Good amount of weight to train up with. Training for the CI trip. Good point about moving to the side...I see so many people not doing that on busy trails. I collected 5 poop bags yesterday at Fort Harrison... shame shame. Can't wait to see you guys for the CI trip. I might be heading out to the Grand Canyon next week on a solo to Indian Garden... it's been 7 years since I went to the bottom.

She has been hiking with me for years, but backpacking is another thing. Since I can't carry for the both of us, she took the lead and is getting used to carrying the extra weight on trail. She will hopefully start appearing more on camera too! this place is super popular which makes it the worst state park to train. However, there are some cool trails and places to explore. Thanks for the support!

Good question. Never seen any kayakers there but there is a huge lake near here so maybe? Yep. Going with the crew to CI with the wifey. Should be an adventure for sure! Can’t wait to see all the different videos people will make. Lucky to have several areas like this near my house as the Chattahoochee is a protected area with lots of undeveloped land in the city.

Cumberland Island is a great place to hike. I took my son when he was working on his Hiking Merit Badge for his 20 mile. Of course we did more than that over the weekend, but he had to get the 20 in one day. Racoon Keys is a great spot for looking for sharks teeth just south of Dungeness when the tide is out. Gotta time it just right though. Bring rain gear. Seems to always rain. Coldest showers you will ever take are at Sea Camp. Have a great time. My family is headed there in June. I can't wait. No matter how many times I have been, it is always a great trip.
@MetroOnTheMove
@MetroOnTheMove 2 года назад
20 miles in one day is no joke! Thanks for the tip on Racoon Key as my wife and I love searching for shark's teeth! I think the best time to look for shark's teeth is an hour before and after high tide. We are bringing rain gear and thanks for the heads up on the cold showers at Sea Camp. Hope you have fun in June and thanks for the support of this channel!

This is my home park, if you get there at open, you'll have the whole park to yourself until about 9 when the trail running crew comes in. I love this place, there are tons of side trails that lead to amazing spots on the river. Wildlife is amazing up here too if you catch it at the right time, there are a ton of various reptiles. Really do just have to avoid the people, and the park is fantastic. Also, you mention that you aren't sure where the water comes from, this is actually a tributary of the Chattahoochee River. The mill is a paper mill also, not a cotton mill.

@@MetroOnTheMove I lived in Smyrna till last year too, and enjoyed the Palisades Trails immensely, you gotta do a little bit of trial and error but you can definitely get away from the pavement and have a good day outside.
