the worst thing about coming out is: having to do it every time you meet new people. I was outed in High-school and physically assaulted and bullied to the point I had to drop out and get a GED.

These stories are exceptional, both in terms of the courage it takes to participate in this programme, but also to demonstrate that there’s no “gay way” So many of these amazing people exhibit completely different personalities and behaviours. What unites them is the incredible courage it must have taken to come out let alone be in this film. When you get older you realise, that you don’t have to explain your sexuality, or life style to any one. What ever, and whoever your neighbours are, they don’t feel it necessary to explain to you that they may be straight? So you realise you don’t have to explain, or apologise, for being different. But with age comes confidence. It’s no longer an issue. And I know that makes a huge difference.

I know of a guy who told his mother and father that he was gay when he was 16 years old, and the father and the brother who wa sin the navy beat him badly and they throw him out of the house.-He was walking and crying on the street and a guy whose age was 24 saw him and asked him what was happening, and he boy told him about being gay, and about being thrown out of his home and told him that he had no place to stay, the 24 years old guy invited him to his house and they ended up becoming lovers - -But the older guy who fortunately was a doctor and had money, forced the younger guy to go to the university and paid for his education, and he too became a doctor.- - Many years passed and the younger guy never knew anything about his family, until accidentally he became to know that his family was in a desperate money situation, the father was completely ruined, and they were about to lose their home and was deeply in debt, the brother who beat him up when he was 16, got blown up in Afghanistan and was in a wheelchair, so he decided to contact his family to help them out, and when the mother saw him, she nailed and crying asked him for his forgiveness . - -He bailed everybody out, and even got his brother an electric wheelchair and the brother too cried and asked for his forgiveness. - -I I don’t tell you the name of these people, because I don’t have their permission to do so, but I tell you that this is a real story and there are many other things about it, but I don't tell you because it is time consuming, when I became to know all of this I laugh and cry. Hugs!!... -

That's so true. You're never done coming out. The worst part about coming out to religious people in particular is they don't flat out dismiss you but get into this God loves you thing and wants you to love Him back which basically means that you are lost. Homophobia is written into religious texts. I wanna give the guy in the flannel shirt a hug

I am a 60 year old gay man. I knew that I liked boys at the very early age of around 7 years old but didn’t understand why I was excited when they had their shirts off. My first boyfriend was at the age of 17 years old and the relationship lasted for 11.5 years. When we first met it was a friendship that became more intimate. However, my brain told me that if I kissed him on the lips, it confirmed I was truly gay and that scared me. I eventually did. After we broke up, my next boyfriend was of another ethnicity and that lasted almost 19 years. Even though I am single in these later years, I have plenty of good memories with both these relationships that I would not change. Everyone who has difficulty with themselves being gay is much more common than you think. However, you must be true to yourself, in order to find true happiness in life. And know that there is someone special in this world for you. It will take some time to find that person. Best regards in your endeavors, Steve (LA, CA, USA)

My heart still aches at the pain that all kinds of minority groups go through because of ignorance and lack of empathy and understanding. Being LGBTQ is different because we are not already surrounded by others like us. We have to go out and find each other and we come from all races, religious backgrounds, and cultures.

I'm currently in my "coming out process" few close friends, select colleagues from my fire house, even when I'm hanging and if certain people ask depend on the vibe would determine if I'd open up or deny. Where family is concerned though, my folks are preachers and operate pretty homophobic... plus homophobia is not uncommon in the ghetto community I live so I really gotta keep it under wraps around my family and folks from my neighborhood... i used to hang out far from home and alone to truly be myself... oddly I felt like i get more love from strangers when I'm being myself than my own people. But as the years go by and I started opening up to people I started feeling better about myself. Don't know if I'd be fully out in the future but right now I'm doing better than I was before

I came out 2 years back to my mum and and my dad for sure had an idea but still in denial. Both express their anger and unacceptance. Now, am in extreme pain for falling in love to friend of mine who's married, same age as mine but never judge me for being gay. Sometimes, the best way to escape all of the pain is just either to get vanished or to just be numb so you don't feel the pain.

Religions do so much damage to people, especially misunderstood religion. It's a pity that people don't look at their own flaws before condemning others for theirs. In any case, being born gay is no flaw. God doesn't make mistakes. And if we are to believe in God, then we must also believe that we are exactly as God created us to be. God doesn't err.

The young lady in the striped blouse made a republican reference. What does that mean exactly. I'm less than smart, can someone clear that up for me.
@ryanblack3285

Republicans tend to be less "progressive". They are not as much for gay rights and things like that. Tend to have more of an "old fashioned" point of view so to speak.

The project is focussed on serving folks that are frightened to identify. "Worst thing" is a common search for people in fear about a topic. So the intention is that frightened folks will find it by its title and get some strength and hope from it. 😊
