Hello my friend Geoff, You have some very nice tools in your workshop. Worx is a good brand. Nice comparison. I think they both have different functions. And both are needs. Thank you for sharing. See you. Big greetings.

Thanks for watching. I like and use both of those tools. One for one job and one for the other 😀

I also have an Axis, as a 2-in-1 tool it's perfectly fine, build quality is good for the price. It's not amazing at either job but it works well enough. I've used mine mostly as a jigsaw and never had a blade come out and hadn't actually noticed that it didn't have a guide wheel but, knowing that it isn't a "proper" jigsaw, I don't push it very hard. 4 years in and I haven't felt like I can justify buying a dedicated jigsaw

I had exact the same problem. The saw keeps falling out. But after some modification of the saw it works perfectly. You only need to grind some (1mm) of the sds part on top.

Hi Geoffrey. I have an Axis WX550L. There is an orange swing-lever on the top of the tool that locks/unlocks the "pendulum" action mentioned in the tool manual. The manual is not at all good at describing what the "pendulum" action is or what it's for. I had to talk with a very nice woman at WORX to get some idea of what it does. WORX advertising mentions "orbital cutting technology". I think that is another word for their "pendulum" action. (But I also think it's only a "quasi-orbital" action.) ---- I have another recip tool that has true "orbital" action. It's manual describes it very well. On my other tool, "Orbital" means the blade moves forward toward the cut during the "cut" stroke and slightly back away from the cut in the "return" stroke. I can see it clearly as the blade moves. In that manual it praises the way that action saves wear on blades and a faster cut - by not causing friction on the saw-teeth on the "return" stroke. I would agree. When I watch that blade in action, it truly moves forward and back as the blade switches from "cut" to "return". ---- It's a very good function for a Recip, but not so much for a Jig saw. ---- So. This WORX combo-saw has the OPTION (that orange lever on top) to lock the blade down (#1) - or let it "swing" back and forth (#2). ---- It really speeds up the Recip cuts. But it's still not full-fledged "orbital" because the blade is only is "set free" to swing. It does not seem to change it's position between "cut" and "return" blade movement. ---- It DOES still help make cuts faster (Recip only) because I think it deals better with irregular surfaces and allows the blade to slightly change angle as it travels - making and maintaining more consistent blade-tooth contact with the wood. ---- I would be interested if you would evaluate the jig saw version of the tool with the "Pendulum" in the locked position. I think you'll find a difference! Not perfect, but a lot better! ---- (BTW - I have never seen my tool have the kind of Blade-play you demonstrate where the blade bends backward in it's blade slot. Mine only swings the piston forward and back in the "Pendulum" position - #2 on the orange swivel switch. The blade itself stays firm.)

Thanks for your indepth comment. I just couldn't work with it as a jigsaw, but it's fine as a recip saw. I mentioned this to worx and they agreed that it is better as a recip. But we all handle tools differently, getting different results 😀

Hi there, i've been stressing the Axis for quite a few days now and I think there's a problem with the stock blades that came with the saw, i bought a 10 kit from worx and they're working like a charm. The stock blade kept falling out since the t shank couldn't fit properly in it's spot. At least this is my experience, maybe i have a newer version but to me it is an amazing jigsaw more than reciprocating saw. Anyway: great tool and great video 👍

That could be something. It's funny because mines a better recip saw. Worx are good tools and I use them all the time.

i think i'm gonna buy an axis, my thought is it will be quite useful as a multi-mode recipricating saw. not for high accuracy jig saw work, but for use in typically compact recipricating saw work, but you can change the handle position for different uses while still using the longer recipricating blades, like ripping thick timber too thick for a circular saw, you could use a conventional recip saw, but the jig saw mode would be easier to manuver for the long cut. also for some demo like cutting into a wall and avoiding cutting the top or bottom plate since it is easier to keep the blade cutting parallel

The axis is a perfectly good recipe saw. I've used it on different recipes type jobs, from ripping boards to pruning trees. No problem at all.

Mate you look after them and they look you. Can't ask more than that! Good companies admit when there is an issue and correct it. Looks like they fall into that category 👍

Yep. As soon I told them the axis wasn't so good as a jigsaw, they agreed.

The 550 comes in two modes.The one you set has radians, and the one that's fixed doesn't wobble and is actually more stable than the 543..That's how I feel.
@MrGeoffreySmith
@MrGeoffreySmith 2 года назад
Yes, the one which is fixed would be more stable. Thanks 😀

That second one looks mighty similar to the one I have under a different brand name, it's pretty good I reckon. Btw.....reciprowtf? 🎃

It's a bit small but it cuts fine. ITunes what I need it to do. No, it's pronounced 'recippppeeerzsadg' 🤣
