I love this machine! went from 90, 30-gallon bags of UNmulched leaves to 12 heavy bags of mulch. Thus, the Chinese ratio of UNmulched to mulched is not 10 to 1, but more like 7.5 to 1. Still, it is worth its weight in gold. In addition, I reduced two months of raking, lawn mower mulching, bagging, crushing, and delivering to the curb to TWO DAYS. I am a happy camper! Great gift for special occasions.

I've had one for several years and am well satisfied with it. Bear in mind that you need to follow the manual in regard to what you feed into it (large amounts of wet leaves will choke it). Small twigs might be possible but overall you want to avoid pine cones, gum balls and the like. I wouldn't dream of feeding it rocks! It's basically a weed whacker on a stand and if you treat it right it will last you a long time. I've shredded 70 bags of leaves on occasion successfully (I'm a serious composter). If you abuse it, you'll find yourself swapping out the trimmer line more than you'd like to. I've found it to be cheaper to buy a .095 trimmer line (it WILL handle it) and cut it to the appropriate lengths and it works fine. After you've swapped out the line a few times, it'll become second nature. As far as the shredding ratio, I've found that 5:1 if a lot more realistic than the "marketing version" ratio of 11:1 I'd imagine that it would depend upon the type of leaves and the shape that there in. Safety glasses, a mask and gloves are a given with this. I also use ear protection. Overall, it was a GREAT DEAL!

Yeah I love this thing too. My biggest issue is that I have a lot of rocks in my yard. They are a big problem for me. I have an area under a big shade tree that I have been thinking about removing all the rocks and creating a dedicated mulching area. I have to keep up on the leaves or they will all blow into my pool and turn it green and this mulcher really helps to manage the leaves. So yeah if I can get past the rock problem I will be all set.

I have a much older machine that works the same way . I watch for walnuts and twigs, etc, I put a lot of maple leaves through it and after I'm done all the fine mulched leaves get spred out over the 5000 sq.ft yard for the winter to feed the grass , worms and birds finding something to eat . . And yes , wear safety glasses ,a mask and hearing protection ! They can keep those leaf blowers ,wat too slow and useless as a fine mulcher .

@roberttillotson6861 Год назад
You are correct. I just finished 16 bags of leaves that were moist from our climate. The cavity does muck up from moist leaves. That only takes a minute to clean up with hand. Helps to feed those slowly so that you get very good chopped up leaves. I keep out twigs or anything else. Love mine.

Thank you for awesome review; specially showing the use of different strings. I've thinking about getting this shredder since I have been using the leaves in my garden bed to use it as additive to my garden beds and as mulches to save money; also as fuel for my wod burning stove. I just bought one. I have maple tree leaves which are quite large. I haven't used the machine yet ( its raining out now) but I think it will do fine. I bagged my leaves last year without mulching and I had over 20 bags. I am hoping to reduce that to 5 or less this year. The only drawback is that each bag will weigh considerably more. I may decide to compost if the leaves are chopped up good enough. I am going to buy heavy duty contractor rated yard bags at my local hardware store this year. They will hold more weight.
@ThatHobby

I used to have a lot of bags of leaves before I got the mulcher. But yeah they are a little heavy after you mulch them. I had to upgrade to heavy duty contractor bags 3 or 4 mil. should work fine. I bought this 2 years ago. I took off the line cutter and used a metal trim line; just cut it to match the case size. It's very loud. I'm looking to sell it because I found a better method. The problem with lawn mower should you use for composting or mulch with large volumes is that you still have to put bagged leaves somewhere after mowing. Sometimes the leaves shredded into bags is time effective and much easier in long run and strategy.

@SeaJay_Oceans
@SeaJay_Oceans Год назад
@@ThatHobby I Saw another video and the WORX is faster to feed because of the huge funnel top, But the Sun Joe needs more hands on to shove the leaves down the top. Watch those Finger tips ! Ouch! I want to turn my leaves into potatoes, leaf mulch + mushroom topsoil = perfect for garden potatoes. I'll get the WORX because the 13 AMP won't overload the outdoor power plug. People should remember: 15 AMPS is the Max on a 15 AMP circuit, but you don't want to be running it all Maxxed out. So for safety, 13 Amps Worx feeds faster and uses less electric $ . To make superfine mulch, I'll cut my own grill reducer, with smaller openings, so the Worx will turn everything into dust. Thanks for the great video !
@SeaJay_Oceans
@SeaJay_Oceans Год назад
@@ThatHobby I was right, the WORX works better, because of the funnel top... I have to pace myself, because you can't force feed the WORX a bunch of stuff (it breaks the cord and clogs it up.) But with a steady feed, it pulverized oak leaves to dust. Good job Worx!

I got one of these after seeing a lot of good reviews, but I have live oaks, which have smaller, super thick sturdy little leaves. It didn't shred them up as much as I'd hoped, still lots of leaves completely intact. I may try running them through twice or putting down a little mesh over the holes so the leaves stay getting shredded until they're small enough to go through. I'm guessing this'll work well for thinner leaves.
@ThatHobby
@ThatHobby Год назад
I have a lot of small leaves too and a lot of them fall through as well. My leaves are a little thinner and I usually mulch them once they are dried out. It does seem to compact them really well. But yeah it doesn't break them up as much as I would like. I have not tried running it through a second time. I think I will give it a try and see how much of a difference it makes. Also pouring the leaves into the mulcher a little slower help too.

Would love to see longetivity comparison of the WORX default line to the 2 different gauge weed whacker lines you used as comparison. I have a ton of leaves to process in my backyard and I noticed drastically reduced efficiency mid way through 2nd large pile. Of course it sped up nicely after changing out the line but it's such tedius work. I prefer to keep mulching and not spend time changing out the line, or at the least do so in much less frequent interval. Can you do the following experiment? 1) default line vs. 0.08, 2) default line vs. 0.095, 3) 0.08 vs. 0.095 compared to see the wear after doing similar workload?
@ThatHobby

It seems like the WORX trimer line lasts the longest. I have another trimer line to test out too. I like the video idea of comparing the different sizes. I have a lot of gravel in my yard. So feeding the mulcher slowly allows the rocks to fall through and puts less wear on the trimer line.

Traditionally, I spend two months processing my leaves (e.g., rake, fill bags, crunch, add more leaves, and leave them at the curb for pickup). Recently, I enlisted a student to blow a large section of my yard leaves into five huge piles that required 40 minutes. Then, I utilized my Worx Leaf Shredder for the first time. In six hours, I shredded leaves, producing 13, 33-gallon bags, which is equivalent to 97.5 unshredded bags. Thus, in one afternoon, I completed 45% of my yard, which normally requires 2 months for the entire yard. I have only 55% to go before the entire yard is completed. Thus, in less than two days, I will have accomplished what two months required formerly. Do I like this product? I should have bought the Worx when it first hit the market. It saves time, energy, and money, BTY, I replaced the nylon string 3x. That's ok. It took 60 seconds (for both strings) after I got the hang of it. My leaf yard work has been cut dramatically!
@charlesbrown2587
@charlesbrown2587 Год назад
PS: To facilitate the leaf job, I recommend that you buy large hand leaf scoops to feed the funnel in a methodical manner that maximizes the operation. Don't overwhelm the unit; just feed it moderately and the nylon string will endure longer. This I discovered quickly .

The directions say not to use anything other than the official weed eater line. But yeah that would be interesting to see how far you could push this thing. The base under the head is plastic so the steel cable could cause some damage to the base. Plus there is a metal blade in there to cut the excess weed eater line. I have seen some sparks fly when a rock hits it. I have a lot of gravel in my yard. So the steel cable may cause some real fireworks if some rocks get in there.

Why are you bagging up the leaves? That's some much-needed nutrient for the tree and helps build up the soil quality. Brad Lancaster has done some great videos on how to capture rainwater using shallow excavations around his home and neighborhood, growing food on a small lot in Arizona. I like how that gadget chews up the leaves, helping them to break down in the arid climate. I wonder if it'd do well with my eastern leaves b/c the oaks and pecans around here drop tons every year. Great fertilizer, sure, but I wouldn't mind reducing the volume of the things!
@ThatHobby

The mulcher is basically an upside down weed eater with trimmer line in it. So a great way to test if it will work on your leaves is to put them in a bucket and try to mulch them with your weed eater. As far a bagging the leaves goes I do try to use the mulch in my garden but I am really overwhelmed with all the leaves blowing into my pool. So I have been using what I can and disposing of the rest. I plan to eventually building a mulching and composting station to save more or the leaves for our garden and for our trees too.

First, modifying the hole will negate the warranty. Secondly, such would be a delicate operation, because of the intricate nature of the part. Lastly, the cord had been correlated to the motor so that they work in tandem. The present setup is designed to perform the task efficiently. See my above review of how I reduced 2 months of leaf raking and bagging into less than 2 days of leaf shredding (aided by a teenager who used a high-powered leaf blower to create 5 huge piles of leaves that I then shredded). @@ThatHobby Flying rocks is no fun, gotta agree on that, the lesser evil is preferable. Im colleting mine from the woods and doing the mulch runs on govt grass, the battle to get enough compostable material.

you are putting micro plastics in your garden with that method of mulching leaves.

That's an interesting point. We are all trying to cut back on plastics. It just seem like is everywhere now.

@@ThatHobby interesting....I posted the same feedback on a bunch of reviews of this product.....you are the only one who acknowledged the truth about the hypothesis presented; - these string type leaf shredders put microplastics into your soil. at least you didn't deny the obvious reality of certain things.....refreshing in an age of deceit. Honestly, I think a double bladed lawn mower (honda makes some good ones) is your best, most effective, most environmentally friendly solution.... pile in 3 foot wide rows, mow back and forth.... mulch to the degree you want.....ultra fine mulched leaves will turn over in as little as 3 months with 1+ yard piles turned 3 times........ 1 yard of leaves left unmulched will take up to 3 years to turn over into usable soil. I made a 20 yard pile this fall...turned it twice and then in springtime, one more turn, then screen with 1/2 by 1 screen, put in some lime and wood ash as screening.....wait a few weeks....it's good to go, best soil on the planet.

@@curiousbystander9193 The Worx mulcher may be better suited for reducing yard waste than for composting. If you are mulching for an organic garden I like your alternative. A lot of people are starting to look for ways to reduce there exposure to plastics.

This thing gets kind of loud. Plays rock music instead of letting us hear how loud the mulcher is.

A few people have asked how loud it is. I made a quick video about how loud it is. Here is the link. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xY0FuIEFFrM.html

Come on dude it’s not designed for rocks GEEZ!!!!
@ThatHobby
@ThatHobby Год назад
Yeah the rocks will destroy the trimmer line and they are dangerous too. We had a big dust storm last week and it blew a giant tarp into my yard. I could stake the giant tarp down in the corner of my yard and blow all the leaves onto it. That way I can do some mulching without the rocks getting in the leaf pile and messing up the mulcher. Not everyone has rocks in their yards but for those of us that do this could be a better option. Thanks

Don't use music, let us hear how it sounds. Cheap music like this detracts from your production quality, the opposite of why most people think they're using it.

Dissapointing review. Sounded more like a sales pitch. I would have preferred a more unbiased and thorough review. pros AND cons, how you think it compares to other options,etc.
@ThatHobby

The best thing about this mulcher compared to other brands is the stand. You can put a regular garbage bag on it thats really nice. The worst thing so far is the trimer line can burn up real fast. I made some other videos about this. Good luck in finding the right mulcher for your yard.

@@ThatHobby Yes, you mentioned that in the video. However, you still didn't mention any "cons" or how it compares to other products. Now it is obvious that this is not an unbiased review.

@@carljensen5730 I would be interested in knowing what mulcher you decide to get. Once you get it set up and running let me know what you think of your new mulcher. The only other mulcher I have had was a Portland mulcher/blower combo and it burned up after 6 months. The Worx mulcher is still running after a year so that's a positive for me and my yard. Good luck in finding the right mulcher for you and your yard.

@ThatHobby

It does have a nice stand. You can just set the bag on it. Some of the other brands use hooks and bands to hold the bag. They all seem like a convenient set up to process a bunch of leaves with though. I just happen to like this one better because of the way the bags fit on the stand.

Great job on video review. Ive done my reviews of various electric and keep coming back to the Worx for features. I hope Im not disappointed. Would you recommend a larger string? like a .095?

I made my own from a spool of stihl trimmer line. I think that is one of the best trimmer lines you can get but it didn't seem to last any longer. The original Worx line actually lasts a little longer but it is a bit pricy.

Thanks and yeah the .095 will fit but it is a little tight. I made my own from a spool of stihl trimmer line. It didn't seem to last any longer. The original Worx line actually lasts a little longer but it is a bit pricy. My issue is that I have gravel landscaping so I always end up with some gravel in my leaf pile and those little rocks destroy the trimmer line.
