If you can handle the bike then sure, get whatever you want if you like it. However, basic economics and depreciation is something that we can all benefit from, and for any new rider who isn't living off of daddy's money, getting a new bike is pretty dumb, as everyone will want to move onwards within a short time period anyways. The mentality of "get what you like and don't care too much about specs etc" is great. Just do it with some common sense backing up your decisions. Same with knowing which kind of bikes might actually be hazardous for you to ride as a new inexperienced rider.
Agree with you both however...some people like the bikes that take the skill they don't have. So with that said I say this. Why have the speed when lacking in the skill department

Last year i didnt ride as much because i worked so much overtime and traveled as much as 2.5 hours for work because i was working a union trade job. So well my bike was parked i watched alot of moto-vlogs and motorcycle channels and i stumbled back across yammie noob. The whole thing with him laying down the daytona was stupid, people unfollowed and said stupid shit when its inevitable that pretty much every rider will lay one down in there life and ive never heard truer words spoken. He really is a spokesperson for the hobby now. I got off my cruisers and my permit expired and im gonna pick up a mt07 in the near but distant future cause i take my brc in may but since ive signed up for my brc ive been binging yammie-noob. Hes just as awesome as when i found him. Hes really rekindled my love for bikes
I live in Cali, which is supposed to be in full lock down mode, and I went out on a ride up into my local mountain/twisty roads spot. I have never seen so my bikes out riding before. Normally I'd see like 5-10 bikes up there, I must have saw 50+. Everyone was waving at earth other too which surprised me. Like 95% of Harley riders gave me the wave too even though I was riding a KTM Duke 390. Guess everyone is just happy to be out riding right now.

@@sambeezy007 yeah everyone's looking for something different honestly what I look for most in the bike is the ability to let the front wheel the most between 0- about 70mph with just the throttle... The feeling of coming out of turn and lifting the wheel as you straighten out is may favorite.. but other than that I prefer the least amount of horsepower possible so I can really use the engine and rev it out instead of having to have strict throttle displine because the bike is so fast you can't go full-throttle for more than a second

I've commented this before. I bought a 2017 Yamaha R3 as my first bike at almost 28 years old. I am so happy with my choice. The bike came with all the frills I would want like an M4 exhaust, fender eliminator and frame sliders. The light weight R3 has been absolutely perfect to start learning on. At under 150 LBS, the R3 has plenty of beans for someone my size. As for financing, I'm glad I did as it helped out my credit score a decent amount. Part of life is learning. It’s best to learn from others. You are now using this channel to share your knowledge. Power to you man. Hopefully many learn from you and others so they don’t have to go throw the pain of going through something themselves. Pretty much like what our parents told us, lol.
We all wish we could talk some sense into our younger selves. I think it’s nice to listen to people review their thoughts as they’ve progressed and matured. We all do stupid stuff at some point and it’s nice to see how you’ve grown too, not just as a rider, but as a person. Great vid, man.
LMAO! You will end up dead faster than the kung flu cand take you out, if you are not a highly experienced rider on a busa! But hey what do I know, I have only been riding motorcycles for fifty-seven years and have had more bikes than I can remember and my mind is still good! I had a bike built by Vance Hines that made my busa seem like a tricycle, but I guarantee you, the busa is not a beginner's bike by any means. The busa has a lot of power at any rpm and if you are not experienced it will get away from you right away. Go get a small bike you can handle, like a 250 or 300, then graduate as time goes on toa 600, then to a liter bake, then to a busa, or keep observing would be even safer and keep you alive! :-) Take care and God bless you! been looking to get my first bike for almost 6 months now. this video was really refreshing, a lot of my friends that ride swear to the 650 and above as the only starter bike. but hearing the ideas of getting a smaller cc to learn and enjoy really hit home for what i’ve been thinking. as always thank you for fire content clammy dude
I'm also an adult who rides but didn't ride as a kid....my preferences in motorcycles are fluid and totally different than when I was in the dreaming about riding stage. I'm beginning to think that a relatively comfortable dual sport bike may be the best choice for the vast majority of new riders. With rim and tire change you can do both pretty hardcore offroad, and supermoto stuff in a cheap, low power, easy to fix package that is still comfortable enough to ride for a few hours. It's just soooo hard to choose maybe the least attractive bike in the world as your first bike. I couldn't have imagined spending money on something as "uncool" as a DRZ400. Now? I'd take one in a heartbeat
"All bikes lead to dirt" I love it! I started out road biking (bicycle) and within 2 years switched to a full-suspension mountain bike. I can't imagine doing single track on a bike that weighs more than 25 pounds though...
A lot of newer motorcycles today have power modes so a larger displacement bike is definitely doable now. Keep them in the low power mode and you have plenty of room to grow into it. You also can save money that way by not having to spend more money to upgrade. Biggest thing in my opinion is maturity, some people have no business being on large displacement bikes...even experienced riders. If you respect the machine and the power they deliver a larger bike can be fine. Not necessarily advisable but don’t listen to the people that say you need to get this or don’t get that. Get what you like and are comfortable on. If you get something just because a friend or someone tells you to and you don’t enjoy riding it, it can definitely ruin your experience and possible cause you to not want to ride anymore.
My first bike is a 2018 R3. It really is an amazing bike to ride. At group rides I am pretty much full throttle the whole time having the time of my life and I can still keep up no problem. Everyone is really friendly with me too a lot of the 1000's and 600's I ride with also have r3's because they are always going on about how much of a great/fun bike it is. Its comfy, agile, and VERY forgiving. If you are still deciding on a first bike I highly recommend the R3.

Same. My course in my local area got pushed back 2.5 months after I waited 6 months already. I signed up for a course about an hour away from me that's only a month away.
I took the MSF the next day they announced they would be closing the dmv so I still haven’t gotten my endorsement just a little card that proves I passed the tests but can’t ride with.
Just bought a 2015 R3 a few months ago. Same color way that you had, too. Could NOT be happier with it as my first bike. Bought it cheap & outright. And I’m learning a tremendous amount every time I hop on it.
My brothers and I just got our license last year and they both got a crf and I got a Kawasaki klx and we been loving it. Trails are great way to learn how to ride! Love Ur Video's!
Been watching a ton of your content since I’ve been getting into motorcycles and this video popped up in my recommended. This was super insightful and helped me clear up a lot of the worries when it comes to getting a motorcycle for my self soon. Im the same age you got started and this video gave me a lot of perspective. Thanks yammie !! One thing I bet most experienced riders can attest to, is that you shouldn't expect to find the bike of your life with your first try. Everyone end up moving forward after their 1st bike sooner or later, so there is no reason to stress so much about the first one that you're getting. As long as it's a bike you can handle, and you like the basics of looks and feel etc, then it really doesn't matter which one it is or if it has a certain amount of hp etc. You will never find the right fit at first try, because you don't even know what you want in a bike before you actually have some years worth of actual riding experience. That's another reason why buying new is often a poor choice for a first bike, because it's guaranteed that you will want to sell it and get something else, and the depreciation hits hard on all new bikes. The best I can recommend is to go for a middle segment, either a small cc whatever bike, or a 70ish hp regular naked bike (or similar). These bikes have a bit of everything in them, and it makes it so much easier to dial in on what you actually want from your next bike, and it will make it much easier to narrow down your choices towards actually finding the proper bike for you that you want to keep and cherish for years. It's like getting your first home, you will never settle in your dream house right off the bat, but your first house will teach you everything about your true needs and desires - and is in many ways much more important, than trying to choose a great house from the start.
Heyy sup man , im luke ,18, and i live in spain and i just bought a small 125cc cbr r , i've been riding a 45 cc since i was 16 and i can say that by riding a small cc you learn a lot, and the only thing that i feel ,is that i need more and more of that feeling that you get when you ride .cheers yammie stay safe

53 YO latecomer to biking here. Just started late last year on a R3, really happy with it. Discovered track days and never looking back. Up to fourth track day now with Rosso II tyres and braded brake lines (Modding is life, LOL!). Still the slowest on track but don’t care, I’m having a blast. Next bike will be a 600, either the Daytona 675 or or Ninja 636. Keep up the good work Yam!

I got my first motorcycle back when there were 2 types of bikes-street bikes and dirt bikes. I had been riding bicycles from the age of 5, so I always new I was meant to be on 2 wheels. I only knew one person that rode. He was the band leader at my high school. I remember we had a picnic with all the music students, and I spent most of it sitting on his bike. It was a KZ900. Shortly after I graduated, my friend heard that somebody had 2 Hondas they were trying to sell. they were both CL175's. One ran, but had bent forks. The other didn't run because it had been sitting for years. He wanted $100.00 each. I didn't have a real job at the time, but I had a hundred dollars, so I bought the one that didn't run. I found a small motorcycle shop about 4 and a half miles from my house, so I pushed it over there, and told them to get it running. A couple days and a couple hundred dollars later, I rode it home (no license, registration, or insurance). So, like you, I never did any planning. Got my learner's permit for a car, then got my license. Then I got the motorcycle permit. In Pennsylvania, if you had a class 1, 2, or 3 license, then you can operate a motorcycle with a learner's permit by yourself during the daylight hours. I still have that bike, but it hasn't run in close to twenty years. As a matter of fact, I still have every bike I've owned, except a couple that were stolen. (Most of them are stripped down, though).

Started with a 636 ninja at the age of 22. Had never ridden a motorcycle of any kind prior. It was certainly a learning curve. The fear was thrilling and gave me a lot of respect for the bike and how dangerous it was. Rode a few r6's for the seasons following my first year. Just picked up a cbr1000rr after having ridden for 5 years. It's a great bike. Might pick up a mt07 or a duke after this one tho. I've found as I've gotten older I'm much less willing to track ride on the street; seen too many things. Just ride smart and have fun, dont be too reckless.
I rode an MT 07 at our equivalent of the MSF, and now I ride my dad's Honda Dominator. Took two weeks after I got my motorcycle license before I broke my leg, going on my first ride since then tomorrow. Have watched you with a fan in my face to simulate that squid life.
just finished putting together my first bike a 89 Honda CB-1, got it super cheap from a co-worker, stripped it down to the frame and rebuilt it, now just got to take the classes so I can get a license and start riding it
I remember the first time I rode a bike was with the scouts when I was 11 or 12, it was like a tiny 50cc dirt bike and after my dad telling me how to put it in second gear I promptly took a corner too fast and body slammed a fence, I fracture my pinky and still have the scar on my chin, but it didn't turn me away from bikes at all, I had a blast.

I still love my Ninja 250sl, i don't need fast super litter high revving bike, i just wanna live the life..
After I took the MSF I started looking for a nice starter. Got my first bike, ‘05 Ninja 250R for $700, in 2018 when I was 20. Main reason I chose the ninja was price. I didn’t grow up around bikes, but I’m a big car enthusiast and love working on my own stuff. I outgrew it quickly but I had a lot a fun on that bike before I got rid of it. Side-Note: Watching your channel sparked my passion for riding.
Getting back into riding after 6 years, I am so glad I got my cb300f and not a 600 or liter bike. So much fun to flick around on my local hwy74. And it is easily as fast and quicker then the Vstar650 I started on.... I liked the Harley likestyle, I love the CB's agility... most likely getting a dirt. 250 soonish
I have the Kawasaki z400 now for like 6 months and its the only vehicle that i own (next to my bicycle), and have ridden 17000km now on it and I still love it. Really great starter bike. Its fast enough in the low end and you can easily overtake cars on the highway. I would totally recommend it!
I started riding about half a year ago. Eurodude here, but since I was 26 when I got my license I was allowed to get whatever I desired. Conveniently a co-worker wanted to sell his bike. Im a proud beginner rider for 6 months now on a 98' GSX-R 600. I crashed it 3 days after I got it, since I was not used to ride without ABS, tapped the front break to hard and went down, luckily just some minor bruises (Full gear on) and cosmetic damage to my Gixxer. Still, Im happy with my purchase and don't regret it at all, despite hearing that a 600 might be too much for a beginner.
Papa Yamm!!! I've been riding dirt bikes on and off for 15 years, spending your teenage years in the desert and having friends that had them. Recently I've been riding a crf150f and it's been a blast!! I never had a street bike, had a wonderful thought of finally getting a street bike. Did my research and settled for a naked. Purchased the 390 duke otd for 6k. Registered for California's version of the MSF course then Covid-19 happened. So I have a beautiful lady in my house and I can not even enjoy her company. I am still practicing on the crf150f, so hopefully when all this covid-19 stuff is over. I will pass my test with ease. I've been thinking about modding the duke replacing the exhaust with an Akrapovic slip on, replacing the eco and air box with the coober package,getting a k&n air filter and adding a wind shield. I really want to ride her. She seems like she will keep me thrilled and teach me a lot.
I bought a Chinese CSC TT250 for my first bike last year, and I have to say it's a great bike to learn on. Brand new from the dealer it cost me less than $3000 with some storage mods added on, and it can do anything you really want to do when you're a new rider (except go on the interstate haha). But y'know take it on the street it can easily do main street speeds 55+mph, if you wanna do off roading you can just slide ride off the road into the dirt, dual sports are just excellent for beginners and learning both street and dirt. But now I feel like I'm kinda just outgrowing the 250 limitations and I just want something with more performance just because when I get on the main road I feel awkward when I have to really try to get up to speed to maintain pace with traffic so I definitely want a bike that can get up to 55-60 in a more timely fashion.

Great VLOG. I started last year on a 125cc scooter, but I'm looking into bikes between 250cc-400cc for my next purchase. The one that interests me the most is the Honda CB300R. It just seems like a great all-around beginner bike.
@M L ended up going in a different direction. My coworker was selling his Honda Reflex 250 scooter. I'll probably stick with that for now because a new bike isn't in the budget. I agree with you though. Next bike might be a 500.

Thanks to you and other youtubers i started in december with a duke 390 and was the best choice ever, i have been able to really grow into it, small enough for a rather big novice like myself to handle at low speed, and really fast and nimble while cornering, highway worthy, i already put 4000 km on it, i been locked since early march because of the virus, where i live in Chile you have to get an online authorization by the police to get out of the house, gess what i do with my 4 hours outside? Lol hit the road
My 2 cents: Dual sports on the street are fun. Light weight under 325 pounds. 5 speed. upright seating position. Prefer fuel injection over carb. The drawback is the seat height are mostly tall. The Yamaha XT250 has the shortest seat height at 31.9. Keep in mind half the people quit the first few months so recommend buying a used bike. Motorcycles may not be for you.

It's not doing bad, it's a living wage for most places around the US. Things are different for me now and I happen to be very fortunate, for which I am very grateful every day. Also, I bought a hayabusa purely for the memes, I'm no financial guru lmao
I researched my first bike for a year. I was between a duke 390 and a Guzzi V7. Completely different, and I love the guzzi style but worried it would be a bit too much. I ended up with the duke 390, no regrets whatsoever.
I just got my first bike, i got a 2016 harley street bob, mainly because a crusier was more for what i needed out of it, i researched for years on what i wanted out of a bike what i could handle what i would be comfortable with etc, i know how to work a clutch and the transmission, so that wasnt a worry and sest hirght has never been an issue, im 6'4 190lbs, so moving the bike never has been an issue, nor has balancing it, i did a lot of runs to my local dealership sat on all manner of bikes. And ultimately i felt more comfortable riding something that actually fit me and was comfortable, than something im spending money on hating because i cant fit and cant get on the highway, cant do what i need it to. My biggest fear at first of getting any motorcycle was, none of the ones i sat on felt comfortable and i was scared i wouldnt like one, until i started actuwlly going out of the 400cc and below, im not the type to want to wing the throttle smd be sketchy with it. So i got whay i felt comfortable with and i could enjoy for a long time. Thanks for listening to my ted talk
I got a 790 Duke for my first street bike, I was terrified at first but after the first ride it’s super tamable but also the power is there when you want it to be. Couldn’t be happier with my choice. Tho if I didn’t grow up riding dirtbikes I might’ve gotten something smaller.

I come from a Honda sport bike family (all the way back to the 50's) so it made sense that I would get an M stamp on my license. My dad put me on my sister's '97 CB250 nighthawk to learn. It was like riding an angry bee. He had me ride street in all variety of bad conditions, gravel, heavy construction, wind so high you're scraping the pegs to go straight, and light snow before he let me move up. I stepped up to my brother in law's '03 GS500E, then my dad's DRZ400E (which I crashed doing 90. My gear saved my life. I walked away just black and blue) and eventually his '94 CBR1000F. I'm still trying to get him to sell me that bike. If you're in your 30's or older, responsible and respectful, go take out one of the '94 hurricanes. She's my first true love. I eventually bought my 150 scooter. It's a blast and easy to get around in the village and small cities. I tuned it and between 30-40°F she'll do the ton now. Now I have a '94 1500 goldwing, getting an 800 Vulcan, and teaching my wife to ride. I never took the MSF course, but I'm going to take it when my wife does, and go back for the experienced rider courses when she takes those. Stay safe.
I'm from Europe (Portugal) and started riding only a few months ago on a little 125cc. I'm loving every second of it, but I want something that doesn't feel like it is going to fall apart going at 60mph. Since I mostly do city riding and the very ocasional highway, I was looking at the R3, Ninja 400 or CBR 500R. I don't want to get too much of a bike because the fuel economy would probably make my cry compared to my 125 xD
I going backwards a bit. I started on a Suzuki DS 80 when I was 10, soon graduated to a Suzuki TL 185 (street/ trail) at 12. Stopped riding till 21 and bought a brand new Suzuki Intruder 800 in 95. Still have it and it's like brand new. I now finally have my mind set on a 2020 Kawa Z900. Cruiser life is good and all but at 51, I still miss a little bit of performance.
I'll say this. Try riding at 65 mph for a few minutes and then mix it up with a few minutes at 45 mph. It'll feel super slow. But if you ride even slower, like 30 mph for a few minutes then you'll feel that the same 45 mph is much faster now. And I really enjoy that feeling. Sure, I still like to accelerate to 70 now and then which takes a while with my bike by the way and is pretty close to my max speed of around 80 mph, but for the vast majority of time I tend to not to go faster than 60. On twisty roads with less than ideal surface it's plenty enough to have fun. Don't know about you guys but it makes me look at bikes differently. All of a sudden a modern 150cc is enough, at least for solo riding, and a 300cc is almost too fast but it offers sweet 0-100 and more comfort plus enough power to carry a pillion uphill. I honestly don't know why anyone would pay big cash for a 600cc they won't utilize more than half the power of.
I've been wanting to ride for a long time just turned 20 not to long ago i have the cash and ive been doing my research, a lot of your videos helped me to do that. Im thinking of getting a ninja 400 just something to have fun on and learn to get better at motorcycles. I fell in love with one since the first time Ive seen a ninja its not too big and scary so when this corona thing is over that is the first thing i am doing taking my motorcycle test and getting the ninja 400
Highly disagree with what yammie said about 600's as a first bike. You in fact will learn, I recommend taking the weekend MSF course and apply what you learn there on their bikes to your own bike, you can learn a shit ton and implement it. Yeah you'll be scared of it, but only for the first couple months or so, fear is a good thing, don't take the power of a 600 for granted. If i could go back in time and choose my first bike again, I wouldn't, I'd get an R6 again, it's tons of fun but yet you can get yourself in trouble very quickly. You can definitely learn while on a 600, I've never understood that argument, it makes absolutely no sense. Yes you'd probably learn quicker on a 250 since you can make mistakes that wont end in catastrophe, but it's entirely possible to learn on a 600, it just takes maybe an extra 2 weeks or so for someone on a 600 versus someone on a 250. Not everyone can afford to get a 250 then get a 600 a year later. If a 600 is what you want, get it, take it slow, and you'll be fine. I'm so happy I got my R6, ive had it for a year and a half and i definitely dont plan to get a 1000 any time soon, I'm still growing into it. Best $2,500 I've ever spent
Just because you're dumb and irresponsible, doesn't mean everyone else is too. Now if you're under 20? Yeah dont get a 600, no offense but you really aren't mature enough for a 600 and you'll have plenty of fun on a 300,400, etc for a few years before you upgrade to a 600. That's if you even want to upgrade, many people get a 250, 300, 400, 600 etc with plans to upgrade and never do, that's because there is plenty of fun to be had with those bikes and you dont need the top of the top, the fastest of the fastest to have fun
Oh jeez we sound pretty similar, I'm 20 and just bought my first bike! Got a ninja 300 2015 used for 2000. Thank god I didnt finance it, that comes for the second bike around this time next year or the fall hehe
in one of your earlier videos I saw from a few years ago on ranking beginner bikes had the Ninja 650 in the god tier and 400 in A tier. Does that still stand or with the experiences you have had since then changed your view in what you want. I'm 15 and want to get into bikes when I'm older because of the fun I had dirt biking, but are those 650 and 400 to much for a beginner say in their early 20's?
I got my class M endorsement when I was 21 but I haven't been on a bike for 4 years. So I would get R3 or a little Grom to get myself reacquainted to riding...... and because I'm short 😅
Me and my 2 friends are all 21yo. They just went and bought zx6-r ’s for themselves (the most power you can have with an A2 license). I did my research and I am saving up for a Duke 390.
hey yam wats up i work full time am 19 and saved my money, i bought a Yamaha r3 myself rode it for a year then bought a triumph street triple 660, loved the yamaha but the striple hits the spot.
I'm happy I purchased my FZ-07 new. I'm unhappy for being so ignorant to the extra stuff dealers like to tack on before signing. But yea, Buying a few years older and used would have been way better looking back. But I think the 650 class is the ideal starting point for "adults" over 25. I also think I had a mild advantage to others because as a Mechanic, I'm used to having to adapt to so many different cars in a day, and no two cars drive the same. As well as having more mechanic sympathy and understanding of what makes things go. I was also an avid bicyclist for my commute to high school and to get around before I had a car.
Seth Glenn don’t know. I think a 400 or a cbr500r coulda held me longer. I was just saying everyone is different and we are all going to die. That doesn’t mean be stupid but if you can control yourself a 600 isn’t a death sentence.
When I was a young kid, I was told that me and my brother were going to get dirt motorcycle. We were so happy with that idea! We ended up getting a go kart, which was so much fun! But I still always wanted that dirt bike. I think my next motorcycle in my stable is going to be a WR 250! Lol That will make four motorcycle, Yammie you need to really warn the noobs about the addiction!
I grew up riding dirtbikes. I did the exact same thing at 21 you did. But I purchased a 17 ktm 450 excf dualsport. Do I regret my decision? Not one bit. Been nothing but reliable, fast, and fun. Clammy, it's not too late to get a ktm 350 and tame the dirt.
I'm not crazy about the r3 because I feel like it lacks a bit of power compared to the ninja 400 considering it's the same price. I'm a heavy guy and seriously couldn't get the r3 over 90mph on the highway. I weigh 260lbs. After riding the ninja 400, I feel like once you hit 400cc mark that it becomes fast enough that it doesn't feel like it is lacking power anymore like the r3 did. You can keep it as a comfy and cheap commuter bike once you want something quicker too. While it'a not super fast it is still peppy and doesn't feel weak. TL;DR I'd recommend the ninja 400 or duke/rc 390 over anything around 300cc.
Quentin Quarantino heard from a few ninja 400 owners that it runs alittle high in rpm at freeway speeds compared to the r3. Not sure if this is due to gearing, as youd think the 400 would be more compliant.

I would have been taking the on road part of my bike test next week , but due to covid 19 lockdown here in the uk 🇬🇧 all tests have been cancelled for the foreseeable! 😢
Hey dude, can u do a video on bikes for bikers who be like one bike for life with which they start, tour,race,ect ,ect .... I mean bikes which are best of almost all worlds...
To be honest I'm really glad that in Europe we have the A2 licence... It just forces you to start on a less powerful bike (at least when you're under 24). After learning the essentials on a 125 cc and passing my A2 licence I got myself a CB650R but locked down to 35 kW (half the power of the unlocked version). After getting familiar with the bike and gaining experience in riding (and getting the full A licence) I'll just unlock it and have the same bike I'm used to but with more power - It's gonna be a different beast, but not totally unfamiliar.
Same here in Australia, got my learners licence couple months ago and bought a kawasaki vulcan s 650, it has computer and throttle restrictor. Absolutely love the bike and in no rush to de-restrict it.
It’s not a bad idea to finance especially for you’re credit but I would recommend if some one did that do it on a bike you know you’ll keep for a LONG time.
Mother of god.. in netherland you’re doing quite okay making 40k a year. Somehow bikes are a lot more expensive here aswell. That does it , im going to immigrate to the usa lol
