My father died in agony waiting for his lung cancer to take him. Nobody should have had control over his life but him. If you don’t want assisted dying in your life that’s great. But Welby and everyone else keep your nose and self righteous principles out of mine.

My father died the same way and it was horrible to see him suffer. However in the case of assisted dying my issue with it isn’t religion based. My issue is that it could pave the way for any government to start subtly culling members of society whom they deem as non contributory. Already in Canada they’re encouraging people who’ve fallen on hard times financially to euthanise themselves. It really is dangerous territory. Will it become a case of a government using it as a way of getting rid of those they see as financial burdens ie the ageing population, the disabled, the mentally impaired, rather than financially supporting them? Vulnerable people imo are at great risk of being manipulated & coerced to take this option when in reality they might just need better governmental support.

I am concerned that people are not getting the proper pain relief and care in their dying days. If someone is begging their Drs and family to end it for them I think it is unfair to force them to suffer.

Not really interested in the archbishops point of view, he's a man in a dress who believes in an invisible man in the sky that can do everything... Not the most reliable source of sensible opinion....

It worries me that people on their death bed will think about the family facing financial struggles because of their treatments and that their life insurance will help them.

Do not harm does not mean "keep alive at all cost" by the way. It means act in best interest of the patient and to respect and advocate for their rights and wishes. This is why we don't resuscitate should the patient express their wish not to do so. This would be solely decision of the patient.

There is a big difference between being alive, and actually living! Seriously how dare that one caller presume just because her husband had a pain free cancer, everyone else does, what a stupid thing to say!! If the individual what's to suffer and cling on to the bitter end, great, good for them, but let others go peacefully if that is their choice!! Finally anyone with religious views like the one caller, keep them to yourself, many people are not religious! Talking about Satan, ridiculous, i think you will go to hell leaving someone to suffer, works both ways!!

I think we need to change the law, our pets get a better death than we humans do that is fundamentally wrong we need to be able to have the choice
