Team Skill Builder finally has their hands on the Mafell circular plunge cut saw.
Roger takes the MT55CC over to Robin's workshop to get the verdict from a seasoned chippy.
Robin has been pleased with his Festool TS55 EBQ, but when did we settle on one tool forever?
Both the Mafell MT55CC kit and the Festool TS 55 EBQ are perfect high-end track saws, but are they worth the money?

Thanks for a great review. What I really like was the review was from 2 highly skilled tradesmen who just really did what we all do and that is take it out of the box at home have a look at the features then take it to the job and use it and learn as you go Not from a rep from the company who knows how it works inside out

Great saw especially ru-vid.comUgkxxnKxcY0vm4xjW8xkPbjaHuKt10gr-wG_ considering how drastically cheaper it is than every other track saw on the market. Only things I would mention is replace the blade immediately, the 24 tooth blade supplied leaves a lot to be desired.

I just sold my TS55 and replaced it with the Mafell. It's in a different league to be honest. The TS55 is a lovely machine, but it's just not powerful enough to cut through material such as a 50mm oak worktop without shutting down into limp mode every five minutes. The Mafell goes straight through it - even when ripping down an entire 4m length. Brilliant saw.

Fantastic video guys keep em long! Oh and the rubber it slides out from the ends of the track if it needs to be replaced. I've only had mine about a month bought the battery one (the wife doesn't know!) I've not used the -1 feature as yet i'm not sure how it can work on butting panels up tight as it would cut the opposite way as my off cut is always on the right. Good saw though i think maybe i wish had bought the corded one as the batterys dont seem to last long.

A comment on cable management. Two Dutch guys invented a sort of clip that you can attach to your belt and then put your dust extraction hose and powercable in it, so they always stay out of the way. Works absolutely great! usefull for all kinds of jobs with corded tools. Sanding, cutting your hedge, mowing your lawn, you name it. The thing is called the "Slide-Kick" www.innotwins.nl/ Always put your rail on the board that stays on the table, not on the piece you're gonna cut. Greeting from Zeeland (NL)

Mafell makes the tracks for Bosch and they're interchangable. Festool tracks SUCK. In fact ALL OTHER tracks suck because they're very fiddly to to join them true... and then they come out of true if you carry them or bump them. Mafell/Bosch tracks join & stay true with no fiddling or worry.

I'm 1 of the few in the U.S. that has the mafell mt55 and it's far superior to any track saw out there. the festool feels like a AS SEEN ON TV plasticy toy tool. I've used it for 5 years with never any problems or lack of power.
@bighands69
@bighands69 5 лет назад
That is just pure nonsense. I own both a festool track saw and Mafell and I know that is just nonsense. The Mafell is better but only fractionally better. The festool works and does it for $600 a Mafell is much more expensive than that but it is a very good tool. The festool does not lack power when used sensibly if you feel it lacks power it means you need to be using a different tool entirely such as a table saw.
@georgethompson997
@georgethompson997 5 лет назад
@@bighands69 Yes, an absolute nonsense comment. The Mafell does have more power but is considerably more expensive. The Festool saw will be more than enough for most people's needs and has a class -leading warranty and service. It certainly not a toy by any standard; I've one in service for 15 years and not a single problem with it. And the number of Festool track saws in service illustrates their inherent quality.

Makita for me. I was going to get the Bosch plunge bc mafell makes it and they have the best tracks bc they lock in perfectly but every time you do a bevel cut with other saws you can feel the saw tilting but Makita has an anti-tilt. I bought the Mafell last year after using a Festool for 10 + years. The Mafell is better but try doing a 45° bevel cut, it doesn't cut on the rubber edge. I sent my first one back as the cut was over 2mm away from the edge. The festool cuts dead on the edge like it should. I still prefer the Mafell and the Festool is used as a table saw now in a CMS unit.

Trend also do a pt blade for mfc and laminate wich gives a good clean cut.

Why do you have to "cut the rubber"?
@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder 6 лет назад
The rubber holds the timber down to stop breakout as the saw blade cuts from the bottom upwards. The rubber is wider than the blade so the first cut is the one which matches the blade to the rubber so it is a perfect fit.
@twig3288
@twig3288 6 лет назад
@@SkillBuilder When I bought a Bosch saw with a rail I couldn't work out why the blade was fouling on the rubber, so I took it back to ITS and the guy there didn't know either so he gave me a refund. That was about 5 years ago. You live and learn. Since then I just use straight edges and clamps.
@SkillBuilder

That is so funny. The guys at ITS should know what they are selling.

Robin: Can the Festool dust extraction hose fit snug on the Mafell TS dust port?

Am I missing something? Why haven’t they put the short rail on the end then the rail is more than long enough to do even a full 8 foot board?
@DPJOINERY
@DPJOINERY 6 лет назад
They did mucker but the mafell rails they have are probably the same as what comes in the kits, these consist of a 1.6m rail and a 0.7m which totals 2.3m which is just shy obviously. But i do know they sell a 0.8m rail which would solve this. They also sell a rail over 3m which i'm after buying.
@danceanddreams1
@danceanddreams1 6 лет назад
what is that? 2 comedians take 40minutes of talking for 2 cuts in 10 seconds! And that for 2 obviously good saws. The Mafell probably more for Carpenters, the festool more for cabinetmakers. everyone should think about the price. you get 2 Festool for one Mafell. but, including me, every viewer would like to have one of them.

Good video, I have the utmost respect for Mafell. Great tools and engineering. The TS55 was a well worn tool so I think it did well against a brand new tool. This may sound daft but the final decision for me would be the boxes. I can't stand the clips on the old Systainers! The Tloc system is a game changer. Festool have the patent on the Tloc so Mafell, Makita and others use the now out of patent old style Systainers or pay Festool to use the Tloc. Metabo used to pay but have developed their own catch, so hats of to them.

Harvey Smith that's not true, mafell Also use t-locs now
@harveysmith100
@harveysmith100 6 лет назад
If you read my second to last line I did say "or pay Festool to use the Tloc." Mafell pay for the right to use the Tloc. The company that make the Tloc is Tanos, Tanos is owned by Festo the parent company of Festool. Hence owning the patent on the Tloc.

is it fair to compare an old festool to the new Mafell that looks to have the new festool features
@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder 6 лет назад
Andrew. We didn't set out to do a head to head on these tools. Robin owns a Festool nearly 12 years old and we showed him the Mafell to see what he thought.It isn't all about winners and losers both these tools have their fans as you can see from the comments. The important thing is the discussion not a knock out fight.

To be fair, showing a ten year old saw used daily and going strong is a good testament to it alone.

I bet you that Metabo does not make the batteries either and that they are a third party that makes them because battery production is very specialized and only a handful of companies worldwide can make them.
