Fun fact about Raph's sai: traditionally Sai are blunt, or even have been forged to have a small metal ball on the tip, the weapon is primarily used as a capture and blunt force tool. Capturing weapons, hooking into cloths, joint locks, stuff like that. There are even versions that are modeled after the Manji symbol and have one of the tines pointing down...for those who don't know the Manji is a Swastika but it, like all swastikas were around before a certain German got his hands on it and now the Japanese Manji is censored out many times when stuff is brought over because people can't tell the difference between the Manji or the Nazi Swastika.
@@austinforgie1069 yeah, you could stab people with a blunt object, it just won't pierce flesh as easy. You could stab the tip into joints for pain compliance and stuff like that.
@@austinforgie1069 Well if we go by the old TV cartoon show, he's fighting robots 99% of the time because of the Foot Soldiers. If you go by the comics, it's because in the original TMNT comics the Turtles all used each others weapons, they had the same mask color and everything so you couldn't really tell them apart, that didn't happen overall until the well known cartoon came out and they needed a way to make each one stand out for merch reasons. The original comics were also violent and a parody of sorts of superhero comics...it's heavily implied in the OG 1st issue that the same accident that gave Daredevil his blindness is what mutated the Turtles. The old cartoon toned down the violence a LOT, and it got to the point with Mikey's nunchaku that they just gave him the grappling hook as a weapon in later seasons cause the Nunchaku were getting a LOT of bad press at the time.
I always felt like Donnie's weapon was SEVERELY underrated. And Mikey's. Like even just a damn baseball bat can do WICKED damage to human bone. A bo staff could easily kill someone given just the right amount of force in Donnie's swing. And the nunchucks are dangerous too they can travel at up to 200mph and deliver up to 300 joules of energy. Land that against a bone and oof. Nunchucks are actually ILLEGAL in a lot of jurisdictions. That's good dangerous they can be. Makes one wonder why Splinter would give such dangerous weapons to the younger brothers vs the older ones.
Well in most versions of TMNT Mikey is actually the most naturally gifted in martial arts when it comes to the Turtles. So Splinter gave him the most difficult weapon to keep his focus.
Mikey is always known to be a goof ball and often not take training seriously, so splinter gave him the nunchucks which require the most focus to use (you could hit yourself etc) Donatello is always known to be the smart one, working with technology. So splinter gave him the Bo Staff, the most basic, primitive, yet very dangerous weapon to show him that simple is often better. Raph is always known to be angry and hot headed, so splinter gave him the blunt sais (they are not actually very sharp at the tip) they are defensive weapons. (can hook a wrist, etc) Splinter gave all the turtles their weapons for a reason, to teach them a lesson on what Ninjutsu is really about. As well as a live lesson.
I'm more of a Casey Jones workout kind of guy. Scrapping together a bunch of household objects and making my own fitness gear. 10 Gallon bottle weights filled with sand. Ankle and wrist weights filled with spare change. Plenty of push-ups and sit-ups. Punch the bag like its a filthy law-breaker! Lots of sports calisthenics and LOTS of flexing in the mirror and talking to myself like Travis Bickle from Taxi Driver. Awesome video Jax! Cowabunga!
In the eyes of a true warrior, anything can be a deadly weapon - Master Splinter 2003 When it comes to Easter martial arts (ninjutsu, karate, Muay Thai, Kung-Fu/Wushu, etc), it really depends how one is taught to apply the techniques in a modern and practical way for each individual based on size and weight. If taught badly or impractical moves or taking techniques to use them linearly, then the techniques and moves will fail tremendously, but if someone sparred and worked in breaking down forms to see how techniques work, then one can notice the versatile ways those moves can be. Also, good schools allow to ask questions; don't go schools where questions are frowned upon. Big no-no Glad Jax is doing this
Jesse Enkamp (A Karate practitioner) proved that quote through a Japanese martial art called Kobudo, here’s a video kinda proving the point ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nKkMuIWiC3g.html
I looked up that Sai’s used to be legal weapons for females in defense. Originally they were smaller, used as hairpins and they use them as knives. Just like how April used the sai in the live action movie from the 90s.
i think you should have done a collab with jesse enkamp (i am pronouncing it wrong sorry) aka the karate nerd here one youtube. he is very good with kobudo , i have seen him use very different self defense tools the samurai and ninja would use. he is a very nice guy and i am sure you would end up good friends
Been hooked on TMNT since the late 80s and gotta respect the work they put into being heroes. Just finished The Last Ronin and it proved that Mikey had the natural talent since day 1, it's definitely worth checking out. #87AprilBae
87 April Bay. Great video. It may have been nice to mention the turtles' massive shoulders likely stemming from the kobodu because of the levering aspect of weapons fighting. Great vid overall!
I've been practicing with weapons like swords and staffs for a while, and I want to give my opinions and I recommend you look at Gaijin Goombah's which ninja on the turtles, Skallagrims video with metatron on the kusarigama. One, nunchuks are illegal to have in a lot of places, so I use a foam one with a plastic core, and even then just twirling it is a decent workout for wrist and forearms. Bokuto (wooden sword) are great for shoulders and decent for grip strength, legs and back. Doing 10 sets of 100 is pretty tiring. The staff is my favorite. The amount of coordination with hands and weapon it takes to use would surprise people, since you need to constantly shift your grip. So yeah, amazing video.
On the note on weapons, average weight of a sword is about 2 lbs, depending on length. Some monster swords were about 10 lbs, but more likely these were ceremonial
If there was a TMNT MLP crossover, that would be cool and funny. I'm almost at my black belt in martial arts. The fact that these guys wield two weapons, and while in combat, is impressive. They teuely are masters
87Aprilbae I'm gonna do some more research on this iteration of April. Favorite Turtle: Donatello I like his choice of weapon which allows you to disarm your opponent with blunt damage instead of slashing or piercing damage.
Loved see you goofing off with weapon training. Ill hold my breath for a TLTT Casey Jones one day for those off us without swords and nunchaku to get a chance at having turtle shell abs haha
YO Jax!! Loving your videos, I got back into martial arts recently and also am being more intentional about my fitness. Having trained since I was a kid, and having been a huge nerd and Mikey fan, I've learned the nunchucks and a few other weapons. Just as you said, coordination and core strength are definitely benefits! The toning and strength I've gained back from calisthenics and bodyweight exercises have been such an improvement. The katas and weapons overall force martial artists to use a variety of muscle groups and gain stamina at the same time. The turtle's training definitely works.
Well mounting if we put that into a modern sense with vehicles then Donny does know how to ride a mean van. But I think all of them can especially since Raphael love cars
Hey man! You got me into working out 3 years ago and i'm still grinding!! Just a quick question though: have you listened to Strapping Young Lad? If you haven't, I recommend you listen to their City album. It's probably the heaviest thing you've heard in a while. Anyways, love this series too, so keep it up! 💪
It was hinted that they do weight training if you look at the Tmnt live action films from 2014 or whatever year it was, I think it’s the second movie, there was a scene where Raph was hitting the bench press for a few reps with really heavy weight, it was when Mikey’s was telling him about the ooze I think🤷🏾♂️
I started following when I got back into training. The would that work out and tough like the toonz was a lot of good motivation. They also helped me get into HEMA. 87 April Bae for life
Ah a fellow connoisseur of 87AprilBae 😉 This was a fun one, good work ☺️ Oh and edit because I forgot. Favourite turtle has always been Donnie! Love that dangerous and yet goofy nerd vibe!
Meteorology = study and prediction of weather. Jaxblade = they fight aliens, so that tracks. Turtles = *Looks to sky on alien world* "I predict there's a 100% chance my foot's going to rain down on your ass!" Guess he's right. It tracks.
87AprilBae I have to go with Donnie his mask/bandanna is purple my favorite color and when I did Taekwondoe for four years I mostly used the Boe staff cause that was the only weapon I was good at and the grandmaster was the only one that could keep up with my speed good times.
Yo, Jax. I came up with a workout routine for the main character of a story I'm writing, Maria. Wanted to know what your thoughts were on it. It basically goes low-calorie rest days on Sunday, Wednesday, and Saturday, moderate cardio on Monday and Thursday with a slightly higher intake to replenish her energy, and moderate strength training on Tuesday and Friday. How effective would this be over a ten-year period?
I totally forgot but if you are more interesting on ninjutsu stuff there is this martial artist youtuber who covers the martial arts of fictional characters from games and movies and he does a great job at that. the name of his channel is Godzillarex and if you want a more in depth of all 18 disiplines of ninjutsu check his video of Solid Snake. trust me he is great
Love your content my guy! I watched the whole turtles battle video, and I've almost 100'd Shredders Revenge. What don't you like about the 2007 animated movie?
Another great video, and even though this comment probably is more of a reflection of me being an old man in a young man's body that got old, is it just me or does he look like Lamont from Sanford & Son pretending to know karate to scare the local bully?
Kid goku would have a good fight in dragon ball fight Donatello with his Bo Staff vs Goku and Power Pole and before meeting master Roshi and krillin that would be a good fight ahemmm Screw Atackk lol love the content
Yo man, I have a high body fat % and little muscle mass should I eat in a slight calorie deficit or maintain calories and do more weight training? Also great vid 🔥
Mikey!!! Dude is my boy! I mean Donny cause I like purple but Mikey always my favorite will always be my favorite. The reason I wanted to be a ninja which.. sadly isn't a job title in the real world anymore :( But damn it I will train like one!
87AprilBae. And it's cool Jax played You and I are about the same power level in terms of being turtle fans. I've been a fan since I was an infant and 31 years later I still am. Don't feel bad I can use all their weapons it decently except the nunchucks 😆 Also I can't pick a favorite turtle because they all feel like they're my brothers and I would feel bad picking a favorite brother lol. I also embody all four of them personality wise so yeah...
