I am 76 yy and have ridden 2 wheeled motorcycles for over 50 years. Right now I ride a Spyder RT. The only long interstate ride I have taken on it was from OH to WV which is a 4-5 hr. ride. I am wanting to sell it and get a Ryker, but as of now, there are no new ones coming into the dealerships for sale. I realize that the Ryker won't be as comfortable as my Spyder and it won't have all the storage, bells and whistles, but I think since we only ride on the back roads most of the time, that the Ryker would do better for me. I also realize that due to the arthritis in my hands and back that I probably won't be riding for many more years, so I don't know if it would be worth going to a Ryker. I hesitate buying a used Ryker because you never know how the previous owner has taken care of it. So I am torn as what I need to do.
Good review with lots of great information. My only negative is the horrible music. Why does almost every automotive or motorcycle reviews contain this loud guitar strumming, it sounds outdated and childish.
Hey man that is old hat used bike. New 2020 RTL is the machine. Longer frame and seating. wider front end. Removable trunk for 1 up riding.ou know the 56 chevy was cool till 57 came out. Drop the price and the 2020 has heated seats.
Hi Denis! Yes, each new model will (well should 😛) be an improvement on the model it replaces! We sell pre-owned bikes & autos and do reviews on them for the benefit of people looking to purchase used “drives and rides”. Having said that, we can’t wait to get our hands on a new one to do a full review on it! (Gonna half to wait for the white stuff to disappearing the spring now tho!😭)
Love my Spyder RT Limited...mine is 2015 All Silver with Chrome Package Accents...Magnificent Machine ...so0o Thrilled with it... In NZ only need a Full Car Licence to Ride...
Great overview and explanation of the features. My wife and I have a sport-touring motorcycle right now, but we're definitely interested in one of these in the future. Thanks and great job!
I wish Kentucky had the same standard. In Kentucky, this is considered a 3-Wheeled motorcycle and you must have either a motorcycle license or motorcycle endorsement. My wife and I are currently still in the 30 day waiting period from the time we obtained our motorcycle permits. We’ve already completed our 3-wheeled training/testing course and just have to wait out the wow days. We have already put a deposit down on a 2023 Spyder RT limited and can’t wait to begin our open air road journey.
I'm on the fence about the 22 RTL and 22 Freewheeler. I like both. I know 2 wheels up front is WAY more stable but I don't "go fast" and where I live it's pretty flat. The Freewheeler with aftermarket exhaust sounds amazing and the 114 but the RTL has all the bells and whistles
CanAm is the only motorcycle company building a real trike designed around steering and handling unlike back wheel trikes that simply slap wheels on the back and have one deal with poor steering and awkward handling. The concept is superior and safety plus handing is Steller. Unfortunately the VSS is a hinderance and it would be beneficial if they dumped all the unneeded electronic controls
I have a 2017 Can am Spyder RT .... I love it .... I wish it had a better transmission... a 6 speed is just not enough.... 8 or 10 speed DCT would be great ... one that is fully automatic .... and doesn't rev 6000 RPMs at 80 mph ..... just Horrible... you can't hear your sound system over 75 mph .... they are so far behind..... 1100 pounds and 40 mpg ... the 2022 gets 30 mpg .. WTF is wrong with this BRP company.... they need American engineers.
Great video explaining all the features of the Spyder! I just bought one last month myself. But the vast majority of the controls are on the left hand side, not the right! (5:01)
@@quantumfx2677 If I had to pick, the small brake pedal which I have since fixed with an larger aftermarket pedal. The floorboards on the 2019 could be longer to support feet forward or backward as you ride. The 2019 comes with old fashioned incandescent headlight and fog lights. All of these have been fixed in the new models. For me at 64 with my wrecked back and leg nerve damage, the RT was the most comfortable for me to ride and I love it!
I want one but can't afford a new one and the used ones are pretty pricey in Australia. I'm told the old 998 engine had problems blowing heat onto the rider at low speed or when stopped. This was rectified with the 1330 by the bigger engine, a different placement of the radiators and reversing the polarity of the fans when the bike was stationary to blow the heat forward away from the rider. By the way I hate that colour.
Interesting info about the heat blowing - here in Canada that could be a “feature” in the spring/autumn! 😂 The Phoenix Orange seems to be a love or hate colour :)
My local dealer had an orange 2021 RTL left over last fall, but I just couldn't convince myself to buy it. I am hoping to pick one up this spring either the F3L or the RTL in black. Great video, cheers from the Ottawa Valley.
What a joke. To drive one of these you have to make an appointment, give all your personal information, likes and dislikes and more. What happened to show up at an event and show your DL? Oh qait, there are no events. A dealer will contact you after you provide your info. Go phish.
Here in Quebec, if you have a passenger vehicle license (class 5) you only need to take a 7-hour course with a motorcycle school (3 hour zoom, 2 hour closed course and a 2 hour road course) and a class 6E designation is added to your class 5. The course is only $458 at the Tecnic Driving School. This allows you to ride any 3 wheeler including 2 wheelers that have been modified into 3 wheelers. Also, a class 5 license allows you to drive a Polaris Slingshot as well as a T-Rex.
Needs custom seat to access gas cap without having to raise the seat. That way there's no need to have passenger get off the bike. Shame a high $$$$ ride doesn't include that.
I have this exact model in a different color. After some experience, I added a Baja Ron sway bar and a Pedal Box. The stability increased considerably and the available throttle can be increased enough to scare you! The trick to riding these is getting dialed into the techniques needed take the twists, turns, and curves. One that’s accomplished you’ll never want to climb off. You’ll hunt switchbacks like you’re feeding an addiction, which you will be.
Prices will vary depending on your country/province/state, condition, mileage, options etc. I’ve seen price is all over the board. If you’re looking for a price on a new one, the best place to call would be your local dealer!
You buy one of these to experience the freedom of open air touring. Yes, you’d could find a car for the price of one of these, but that’s not the point. A pimped out Harley Davidson touring bike costs as much or more than most new cars. If that’s a show stopper for you, then a motorcycle is not for you.
@@NeoRIGEL65 - oh, I completely understand. A brand new 2023 Spyder RT Limited will set you back just over $30,000 here in the U.S. Thats a considerable amount of money for what is essentially a toy. My wife and I are in the process of purchasing one right now. Trust me- the thought of spending that kind of money on a motorcycle is not something to take lightly. At the end of the day, we felt it was worth it to us. You may want to consider a 5-6 year old used model if that’s available in your area. That price point might be more in line with what you’d be willing to spend. Anyway, if this kind of vehicle is something you someday see yourself owning, I hope you’re able to live that dream within your budget. Best of luck.
Instead of going with dark colors and they only have a few this year brighter colors are better and can be seen by drivers. They have a new color pea green looks bad need something like the orange, lime green or yellow to make the bike stand out. I like that 🍊
Would this beauty be good for someone who has a mild disability and never ridden a motorcycle I have mild Cerebral Palsy and would honestly love to be able to have the freedom one of these would offer.
@@DriveRide They are every where in my neck of the woods. Same running gear better everything else. You can hopp up 1330 to make it more HP. Same for 2019 but shocks are lighter weight, etc. You got $$ for 2019 you can afford the better new one. A lot of after Mkt. comes with standard 2020 RTL. Not a hater. Just save someone who drives off a 2019 and found % money gone when you drive old school off lot.
I want to buy two of these, one for my wife and the other myself. They look so fun to ride. How do they handle at highway speeds and with the Limited’s adjustable windscreen and how well does it improve comfort against highway wind force gails from semi-trucks and other large vehicles? I wouldn’t want to put my wife in an uncomfortably situation.
They are quite comfortable. Because you have the three wheels on the ground and they are pretty heavy, you don’t really feel the wind blowing you around much on the highway. With the big windscreen, it does cut a lot of wind down. Ultimately you would have to test it to see if it’s for you, but I find they are quite solid and stable while driving.
Can Am is currently touring these around for test drive days. Check out the can am website to see if theyre doing one in your area. I went about 2 weeks ago it was a blast, these bikes are amazing!
@@DriveRide someone could take a rider’s course, which should make them eligible to take the motorcycle test for a motorcycle endorsement if needed. The class will also show you how to do everything and more about the machines
WRONG comment !!! Sorry, but ... if you are living in Europ (EU) and have a Car drivers licence, obtaint befor 2013, you can drive a Trike and any Motorcycle ... After 2013, you have to obtain a special Motorcycle licence.
