Rodrigo Amorim Jedi and Sith in the lore can't levitate themselves very well. Even Mace Windu was presumed dead after Palpatine launched him out a window. It doesn't make much sense, but it is well established. Even if they can't use their telekinetic powers on themselves for some weird reason why can't they use it on their clothing? The sole exception to surviving a long fall is Darth Maul which I still think was more fan service than following the lore.

Robert M. Dunn it doesn't need to be realistic but every type of storytelling needs logic or what would be the point? A universe with no set rules isn't captivating because then authors can get away with any kind of nonsensical craziness.

The Eclipses could have one-shotted worldships. Sovereigns might have been able to as well, but if not the worldships would have been critically damaged. The Death Star II on its lowest setting, which would probably have allowed it to fire faster, would have most likely popped a worldship like a soap bubble.

It's a single line thrown in a Zahn book called "Outbound Flight." And Zahn always loved writing the New Republic/ Jedi as idiots. The problem is, no one could defeat the Vong. Only the Jedi could beat them with superior piloting. The Vong were immune to the force, had already infiltrated the galaxy for years. Star Wars technology was vastly inferior. The Jedi won the war through peace.

Christus Regnet I think Zahn always did an alright job in showing how a government cobbled together from leftovers and actual terrorists would function in the vacuum after the removal of the Empire. Not to say that the empire was great or anything, but they didn't have to deal with things in as fractious a manner as the new republic, cause who is going to argue with the man who shoots lightning or his murder machine servant? Keep in mind that the "peace" they won the war with was forced upon the vong. The vong would have never stopped till their zealot mindset was satisfied that all the tech abominations had been destroyed. The jedi are superior pilots, it's true. But the only reason fighter level and guerilla tactics were required was because the Republic couldn't get its shit together in time to organize the kind of fleet that is needed to fight a Vong force. By the time they did, they had lost a ton of resources, and most of their victories came with heavy losses, both amongst the jedi and navy. In contrast, an imperial response would have been overwhelming from the outset, sending every available resource to crush any challenge to the rule of the Empire. Also of note is that the empire, while not possessing probably even a tenth of the force users the alliance had access to, would have had the emperors hands, and various other force sensitive servants of Palpatine. And unlike the jedi, who several times had to take second seat to various commanders and admirals during engagements, these servants would likely have lead the battles they took part in, using their more sinister abilities for maximum effect in crushing the extra galactic invaders. All in all an imperial response would have saved billions of lives, not to even speak of the invasion of coruscant and the numberless amount who died during it. Yeah, the empire are evil, and retroactively adding a reason for that is kinda lame, but it's still supported, and in the what-if scenario it is quite clear the empire would have had the tools to decisively destroy the majority of the vong with comparative ease.

Enigmaris My favorite Zahn book is Visions of the Future. He didn't write any of the Yuuzhan Vong novels, and when he wrote his first prequel era novel(outbound flight), he depicted the Jedi as beyond incompetent, blathering idiots, and of course glorified Thrawn and Palpatine as usual. I don't know if the Empire could have won, but it's silly to make Palpatine's goal a noble one, that he was simply working for the greater good. The Sith are selfish, and Palpatine himself is responsible for the deaths of billions. How many billions died in the Clone Wars, a completely fabricated conflict? How many died on Alderaan? His overthrow was legitimate. Ekkhart quotes the imperial officer chick precisely, and then misquotes Han, who knows first hand, and has a point. "That’s not what the Empire would have done, Commander. What the Empire would have done was build a supercolossal Yuuzhan Vong-killing battle machine. They would have called it the Nova Colossus or the Galaxy Destructor or the Nostril of Palpatine or something equally grandiose. They would have spent billions of credits, employed thousands of contractors and subcontractors, and equipped it with the latest in death-dealing technology. And you know what would have happened? It wouldn’t have worked. They’d forget to bolt down a metal plate over an access hatch leading to the main reactors, or some other mistake, and a hotshot enemy pilot would drop a bomb down there and blow the whole thing up. Now that’s what the Empire would have done.”

I think this is actually a big part of the reason why Disney threw out the Old Canon entirely: The Empire would easily have beaten the Vong, it's obvious if you've read even a few of the books. By destroying the old order and doing his best to build up the galaxy's defenses, all this means that in the end, Palpatine was actually the good guy.

He wasn't, the Empire was too corrupt to face off against the Vong. The Vong are master manipulators and would exploit weaknesses.

In legends the Grand Admiral of the Imperial Remnants Gilad Pellaeon has this exact debate with Moff Flennic; Flennic tells Pellaeon that if the Empire was still in power during the Vong war they would have sent the Yuuzhan Vong back from where they had came from impaled on their own amphistaffs - to which Pellaeon replies "really Kurlen we weren't able to handle a handful of Rebel, so how would we have handled the full might of the Yuuzhan Vong". In conclusion the Empire would have been in the same position as the New Republic against the Vong; the Remnants lost at least 3 planets to the Vong including their capital at the time Bastion & the planet of Muunilinst.

You understand that the reason the Vong came to the Star Wars galaxy is because they killed theirs? If the Empire is destroying every fucking planet the Vong steps foot on... And the Vong will be doing the same! It ends the same way the Vong's home galaxy did... a dead sea of stars. You're also forgetting that the rebels still exist, and once the Empire's suppression fleets left to fight the Vong, they'd immediately secede. The Empire would be thrown into chaos WHILE fighting the Vong.

I think you're remembering incorrectly. The Vong originally planned to invade fully expecting the Empire to be in power. They expected the Empire to be a tough opponent but they full expected to win.

@Demiclea well Legends create a lot of exception for narrative purpose (video games are the main culprit), but the general attitude is that Palpy and Vader avoid create fully trained Sith or Jedi level dark siders to avoid competition. The one you refer is Mara Jade, the Hand of the Emperor, they were a cadre of strong force sensitive people trained to become special agents at the direct order of Palpy...but while strong in the force, they were by design not trained fully and a Jedi of the old republic will have done short work of them

Spartan Abrams range combat would be in favor of the elites but relatively a even fight however close quarters the elites would cut through ark troopers simply because of how genetically superior elites are, there way stronger faster poses superior armor and shielding and there tactical skill is on par with ark troopers

Death Trooper elites havent fought droids, they have fought humans, SPARTANS, have superior sheilding, stand at 8ft, are fast as hell, carry splasma rifles (more deadly then lasers) and energy swords, sticky plasma bombs, and active camouflageing. arc troopers dont even get standardly equiped with jet packs, they just get blaster rifles like all other clones.

There is reason to be hopeful, some of the new canon books, especially Thrawn, strongly imply new & more interesting threats exist in the Unknown Regions. It's entirely plausible the First Order is just a front & more complex entities & storylines will be revealed in Episodes VIII and IX.

Patrick Except the Empire was not built to fight the rebels and guerrilla warfare. Its why the Empire seemed like they didnt care about Rebels. Even then Palpatine would’ve won if it wasnt for Vader. He was building a large military to combat the superweapons of the Vong and their weapons. The darkside was much more effective against them.

His dealings with the trade federations blockade of Naboo and refusal to relinquish control after the defeat of the CIS as well as his use of a DarkArmored Jedi despite the Council's apparent betrayal of the Empire. There's also the egregious waste of resources on, not one but two planet destroying space stations and accompanying fleets that fell to miniscule forces of a weak insurgency. That stuff.

Philip Zeplin Alderaan was a peaceful planet whose rich culture contributed to the Republic and the Empire. So much so that Palpatine himself was surprised by Grand Moff Tarkin's choice. The Emperor did sanction the destruction of a planet a a a test and message but no one expected Alderaan. After it's destruction many Imperials abandoned their posts to join the insurgents. All displaced natives of Alderaan (off planet and out system at the time) were housed as refugees in the wake of their home world's destruction. They were sympathized with by their housing systems and were only punished when all out riots began. And their punishment was not death for treason because the galaxy understood their rising anger. Instead, they were policed and arrested. Alderaan was so important to the galaxy that it's loss prompted many high profile figures to immediately work towards preserving it's culture. But the late Ambassador Organa claims Alderaan was chosen because Moff Tarkin and Lord Vader believed she was in possession of information regarding the insurgents military strategies, including military installations. She may have denied it before but records culled from the Deathstar show that she did have that information and she named Yavin IV specifically... only to have her home world destroyed anyway. I believe most Imperials are good people that were unfortunate enough to have maniacally detached superiors. And those that abandoned the Empire that cared for them, did so because it's leaders were out of control. A common failing of empires shown throughout history and the very reason the emperor had promised to relinquish power after the defeat of the CIS. I can only assume power had corrupted the once amiable Senator of Naboo.

Uh... Tarkin doctrine ensured the Empire's downfall. Lots of people were terrified of the giant battlestation that could blow up planets. Without a good explanation from the Imperial News, they assumed Palps had gone mad with power and was likely to blow up planets at the drop of a hat. Which naturally lead to massive anti Imperial support and the expansion of the Rebel Alliance, eventually leading to the Empire's downfall. Moreover, the Tarkin Doctrine's fear only doesn't come from bloodshed due to the blood of the billions of bodies being vaporized in a planet killing explosion. Nom Anor would have a field day with that.

Force couldn't directly harm the Vong but could augment Force users abilities, shadow bombs, TK objects ect - But remember Kyp was the only survivor of his starfighter squad V the Vong early on now imagine regular Imps pilots and how they would fare..

I want that video too, but to be honest, the Empire will obviously win easily. The UNSC and even Pre-War Covenant combined only controlled portions of the Orion Arm, while the Empire controlled 3/4 of the Galaxy (More specifically 100 Million worlds while the United Earth Government controlled roughly 800~ and the Pre-War Covenant controlled several thousand). The empire had so many resources compared to them that I think its safe to say that the UNSC, even with Sangheili help, will be crushed.

Some Random Guy The UNSC was primitive compare to their now extinct enemy , the Covenant empire , recently they've upgraded to 3rd teir civilization , they are like successors to the forunners. The weaponry of UNSC is now a hybrid of Forerunner and Sangheili weapons according to Halo wiki. Resources , yeah I can agree they definitely got crush there but the weaponry is no longer bullets anymore...

Humanity was already Tier 3 in the Early War, don't you mean Tier 2? And I really don't think the new technology the UNSC has will be able to deal a significant blow to the empire. The UNSC's AI technology, is, however, more advanced then the empire's, even before the upgrade (the Empire's AI Technology is shitty and nothing really impressive), so the UNSC might have a strategic advantage thanks to that, and a even more of a strategic advantage if the war is fought in their space, and their Railguns would probably deal serious damage to a Star Destroyer's Hull and Shield. technically they aren't immune to energy weapons as shown in the beginning of season 8 when 3 Asgard vessels destroy the replicator ship with directed energy weapons. they are able to absorb energy. Its just that on an infantry scale staff weapons and zats and the like such as blasters wouldn't be able to overcome the ability of a basic replicator to absorb the energy. Basically ship scale weaponry might be able to do it but ground combat and ship boarding actions would only be a losing battle unless the empire deployed slugthrowers.

SWG has ion cannons. Replicators are at least offline for a bit. Hand-held ion guns like the Jawas use would become prevalent.

I'm not so sure that they would be permanently useful. Just like the ARG disruptors I think the replicators would rapidly adapt to the ion weapon technology

I'm also not sure that the replicators would be able to ignore it all, though they might be able to make a shield against it. As usual, if you take the Emperor out of the equation, things get a lot worse for the Empire. Knowing *something's* happening is a huge boost to your chances. Knowing where is even better.

my reasoning is that they were able to adapt to something that actually renders them inert for good by disrupting their internal communications. Obviously that would leave little time to gather evidence to adapt. Ion weapons are just directed energy weapons (see absoption) that are tailored to disrupt electronics temporarily or permanently depending on plot armor. this would give the replicators a greater chance to quickly adapt to them.

Until you cut off their supply chain. Production of standard equipment and well trained commanders would probably be a better investment. Look at what happened in Russia and Austria-Hungary during WW1 or Germany and Japan during WW2. Lots of superweapon ideas but they couldn't produce enough standard equipment to meet demand.

Bob Reno To be fair to the rest of the Galaxy, part of the point of the Clone Wars was to spread the Republic fleet out all over the Galaxy, generally absorbing the local defense forces in the process. It's a lot easier to dominate a large swath of territory when you already control the vast majority of the military power in that area. Not saying they didn't bulk up their own military, just that they started off on a damn good foot.

The Thing would have more success against the Empire than Xenomorphs. The Empire has better tech than the Colonial Marines, and is more used to combating strange and horrifying aliens. The CMs were completely unprepared for fighting Xenomorphs and did not take the threat seriously until it was too late. The Empire would not make that mistake. They would also take the "Nuke the site from orbit" strategy everywhere they even suspected there *might* be a Xenomorph nest. The Empire wouldn't have much trouble with Xenomorphs. The Thing, that could become much more interesting.

The Immortal Super Being The Borg have trouble assimilating things that kill a lot of them instantly. The weapons of Species 8472 were powerful enough to destroy an entire cube in a single shot, or a whole planet if several of them worked together.

Ethan Meskin Not necessarily. The Borg can't have great difficulty adapting to defend against projectile based weapons. The Yuuzhan Vong weapons fire balls of magma. I can't see the Borg being able to adapt.

Except Palpatine had no intention of protecting the Galaxy. He wouldve used them to allow the destruction of the outer rim which would've resulted in just as many planets destroyed and hundreds of trillions dead. We're not talking about a benevolent leader here.

I prefer to think about dropping on Thing (from the Carpenter movie) into the lower parts of Coruscant. There, it can start infecting people where the authorities do not go, and assemble a whole legion of infected before it goes to the surface, and by then there would be too many Things to stop. They would have to quarantine the planet.

zam023 ....? And... what I was saying. If the Emperor knew about the Vong, that would in a way justify his evil power grabbing actions. Fleets of Star Destroyers and several Death Stars would have wiped out the force immune Vong. The Emperor could have unveiled the threat during the Endor battle and likely turned much of the rebels to his side. Then the Sith would rule the Galaxy as heroes and saviors and the legacy of the Jedi an embarrassing memory.
