Just started watching and I've already got a comment 😂 first combine I ran when I was a kid was a 65 gleaner E. Aftermarket white fiberglass cab. 10' rigid grain table an 2 row wide corn head. Now I have a 90 CIH 1660. Wow what a difference! Keep up the good work Bob.

Thank you Brian and Bob for sharing your thoughts on the Ideal9. Really enjoyed listening to your conversation. Sad to hear about the drought in your area. Was almost drought condition in June up here in west central Ohio, but since then it hasn't stop raining. Corn looks like 250 bu plus and double crop beans look like they might easily make 50 if frost doesn't come early. With grain prices in the toilet it's going to be a difficult year for farmers even without a drought. My thoughts and prayers go out to your entire family for a safe harvest.

I was pulling out a dozer that was stuck in the mud with my dozer and it lifted the backend of my dozer over off the ground maybe a foot or a little less. The wire rope snapped and my dozer crashed back down that foot or so. I didn’t have my seatbelt on and it threw me into the top of the cab. I’m still surprised I didn’t break my neck or worse because I hit so hard. That was the last time ever that I didn’t put my seatbelt on. It only takes one time and it happens faster than you can react. Now, even when I’m getting in my car or truck I put my seatbelt on before I start the car or truck. It’s the same thing I do when I get on any piece of heavy equipment regardless of how easy the job is or how smooth the terrain. I got lucky that one time and that lesson was learned.

I work for a Helena fertilizer and chemical location here in western Minnesota. It was very wet for late spring and early summer. We really didn't have any trouble getting the fertilizer floaters stuck but the big sprayers were stuck many times. The hillsides were the worst. For a period of time some of the ground was dry on top but mush underneath. We run pretty fast when spraying and one of the guys fell in so fast and deep that it threw him out of the seat on top of the steering wheel. The unit went down so deep and fast that the front fill tube was broken off. A safety lesson learned by all of us to say the least.
@ecleveland1

@@terenceblanchette9059 I’ve gotten dozers stuck in ground conditions just as you’ve described. Luckily not as hard of a drop but we move much slower on dozers. Back when I first started running dozers my boss dropped through a sink hole that hadn’t collapsed yet and literally stood his dozer straight down on the blade. It was the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. Busted his forehead open a little but was okay otherwise.

There are examples of appropriately sized grain carts towed by the combine harvester (harvesting dried down corn for grain). The combine towed grain cart is filled by the combine's unloading auger straight behind. The grain cart has its own engine, examples usually have the grain cart's auger out to the left. If the combine cuts up and down on one side of the corn stand, the cart auger could be swapped to the right side of the towed grain cart. Similar is done in Western Australia with wheat etc harvesting on tramlines. In WA, the cart tractor to follow directly behind the combine harvester, the tractor has an auger from front to rear over the top of the tractor to fill the grain cart. (CTF controlled traffic farming)

It will be interesting to see how the Ideal will perform in corn/beans. We tried a 2022 Ideal . It worked well in the corn but we had trouble in soybeans as we had terrible green stems that year. Our CNH machines had trouble with them too. We kept a JD 9650 cylinder/walker machine with real aggressive cylinder bars and it would run them. We were all JD until four years ago. Our local dealership had been bought out several years before and we had just finally had enough troubles with the new ownership. We switched combines to CNH then an have Demoed CNH and AGCO planters and tractors since then. We planned to update two tractors this year but the low grain prices has move that back at least one season. Thank you for your review and opinions on the equipment you run.

That's a really good synopsis of the first run with the combine. Given your labor situation, I think you did the right thing going with bigger capacity over 2 machines, especially with planting behind the combine, and having at least one hauling the grain away from the combine. The tracks will pay you back for years to come, less compaction. Great video!

It’s so hard to tell just how big the machines on video. I usually gauge the height by you standing next to the track. You said the width of a dual is 17-18 feet, so I measured it out in my house. I live in mountains in PA, mostly Amish farms(who use actual horse power) or smaller farms with combines half the size. Idk how they keep from rolling on the hillsides they run here. If you look up Lycoming County PA, you’ll see mountain farming

CaseIH did work on a dual side unload at one time. it was a center auger that would swing out to either side. First thought was in the front of the grain tank but that made the auger too high and put limits on grain tank size and extensions. Second thought was at the rear of the tank but limited the operators view of the auger along with having the auger sticking out the back of the combine for miles as well as made accessing the engine compartment difficult.

It requires a clean sheet look at combine design to implement a layout that would be functional. If anyone else remembers, the ideal was touted as a clean sheet design, but other than massively long rotors it's hard to say they really diverged from what was the well trod path of legacy designs. Probably difficult to get something different to pass a board meeting in a big company, but my hats off to anyone who still believes real innovation is worth pursuing and keeps trying anyhow. We need that more than ever

Pros to the fendt to me was the cooling system setup The full length rotors/ gearbox location The bottom feeding cone setup cause wrapping on our current red combines can be a problem. Visibility in the cab Deere pros was the giant feederhouse, it has to be a beast in canola, and I get not everyone deals with that weed The corner post display, I still like my basics in one place The seat was more comfortable and the massager in there, not too shabby but when I plug the fendt up I likely won't be suffering back pain LoL The sample of both the combines was seed quality which I found unbelievable I could actually go on for quite a while

Saw quite a few Fendt combines out west (US2 from west coast to MInnesota) but there are very few, as in none in my area of WC Indiana. Geringhoff heads have become very popular around here, in fact the local CIH dealer is selling them. The nearest AGCO dealer is 70 miles away, so that makes service calls challenging. Probably 60% green, 35% red and a few yellow machines around here. Very enjoyable discussion, thank you.

Did I hear right. There's a second combine on its way? Just like you, I would be concerned about my dealership making BIG changes. Here in Indiana it's been a nightmare. No matter what anyone says, service and sales controlled by a headquarters located in another state matters. Poor support for the communities, (FFA and 4H and county fairs) and pricing and customer satisfaction is less a concern for the company. Bob, you'll remember back in 1974-75, we had a black dust on our wheat. Came in looking like a coal miner. (i was combining with a Gleaner E 3).

I was very interested to know on what year they did upgrade the rear impellers in the back of the combine. I am wondering if the aftermarket impeller upgrades on the 22 and older ones actually worked right. And the meantime if I ever buy a Fendt ideal combine it won't be anything older than a 2023. I think if you're not combining a lentils or canola I think the combine's going to serve you well

They already had a prototype 50ft dyna flex head on a Gleaner with a swivel auger like they got that was folding. Agco wouldn't allow engineering to test strength of auger , just the header. Since all they care about is developing crap for fendt. They only spend a million or so on improving Gleaner a year but 5 to 10 or more times that improving fendt. Should of stayed with Gleaner, they can run 5000 bushel an hour. Someone out in Kansas is doing it with 16 row head on it. For the flat ground you guys run, it would do it there too. Less parts, less weight, easier to service, easier to set, and a lot cheaper to run with the Gleaner. T1 series has some nice updates that im not going to say other than it has transmission and finals of ideal 7. If they can hold up on that overweight turd, they'll last forever on a Gleaner. Dynamite comes in small packages but gives big results.

Does it have an adjustable rear tire width? If so, you could increase the spread and then adjust the turn stops for a tighter turn radius.

Going to a single combine don’t you have a single point of failure? What happens if the Fendt stops working in the middle of your harvest?

It looks like a good machine but they need to paint it a different color. In Europe they paint them green, it looks much better. With the grain prices these days it doesn't matter anyway, I'm going to be driving red for awhile now...
