Little trick I have my crews do I learned years back in the union. When gluing panels push the panel tight then pull away as to allow the glue to string then push it back up. Get a little air on there and better I think . And there's your dinner

Randy Carreiro - that’s a great tip. We did that experiment with contact cement and the adhesion is almost 6x stronger. (Measuring the pulling force it takes to separate the materials). Besides the final cured strength, the immediate adhesion is more than double.

That is just about the same faux coffered ceiling I did last year. Didn’t have your tools or experience, so it took me a lot longer to do, but the look was similar. I used beadboard instead for the squares. For an 8 foot ceiling, it gives a nice look with only about a 1-1/4 inch dropdown.

I agree with Joey Dafish. Make sure to get the kit which comes with a storage bag. They have several lengths available. Short for cabinet installs (microwaves, etc.) and longer for standard ceilings. Compared to Zipwall brand, the Fastcap have detent pins that will get the pole length closer to your needed height and a squeeze handle to extend the rod the rest of the way and hold pressure where needed. We had a remediation company at our house and they used the ZipWall brand and the damn poles kept falling over as the twist lock mechanism was worn out and wouldn't keep pressure against the ceiling to hold the plastic tight. They were falling all over the living room and onto the tv. Very aggravating. Anyhow, I use the Third Hands and plastic to build on site paint booths, dust barriers (drywall sanding), etc. I do however like the ZipWall brand zippers. They have adhesive that you attach to the plastic and make it so you can gain entry to the protected area and then seal it back as needed.

Beautiful work as always man! Going to do this in a 12x14 room. Just the perimeter and 2 cross pieces splitting the room into 4 equal sections. I’m a one man shop making it impossible to pocket hole together and lift as one piece. If I install each piece individually what would be the best method to avoid separation where the pieces come together. Also any advice on proper and safe install where the 1x8 doesn’t hit a joist? Thinking of using 5/4x8 WindsorOne to create a little more depth. Thanks a lot! Really enjoy your videos!
