Yup! But I ride HD's. I've also shattered my lower leg (not on a motorcycle), and had to have plates and pins put in to fix it. Thankfully, I lived in downtown Chicago and had great insurance. My surgeon was the orthopedic surgeon for the Cubs, and thanks to his skills and knowledge, I was walking (in a boot) within a week. Zero issues.
nope. both my parents are doctors, my father's actually a oral maxillofacial surgeon. so as a child I had access to their old text books. seeing some of the injuries from riding motorcycles was enough for me.
@@doogoo3844 Sound decision. And for the record, when I hear of any adults that I know are looking to buy their first motorcycle, I try to talk them out of it. I started riding when I was 9, and learned to ride (and fall) in the dirt. Streets are very unforgiving to bikers, but especially so for beginner bikers.
I'll never say never, but I've been hit twice from behind on motorcycles, which both required surgery: one to repair a badly damaged elbow and the other to replace my right hip. I still ride and currently have over 164,000 miles on my 2013 Harley. FYI, the first driver left the scene, and the second was a woman in her nineties who claimed I hit her.
For us that ride, nothing will keep us off a bike. My friend Mike lost a leg to a drunk driver and was back on a bike 30 days out of the hospital with a temporary prosthetic. I've had a few accidents over the years both racing and outside of racing. I once stuck a Yamaha in a tree 8 feet off the ground. I still ride regularly and will never be without at least one bike in the garage.
Totally with you on that! 🤘🏽 Had a few _"incidents"_ myself over the years including one particularly nasty one where I ended up with 3 broken ribs, two slipped discs, a dislocated jaw n a fractured elbow. Was back on the saddle 2 weeks later. The PTSD kicked in initially but it went away within about 15 mins of riding.
@rahulsudhir666 I hope I never experience any incidents or accidents. I've been riding 10 years now and thankfully have only had close calls but I agree, I don't think anything can keep us off motorcycles!
@@zillatowntv The sad thing is that the 2 major crashes happened for no fault of mine. The first one with all the injuries I listed above happened circa 2012. Was heading back home after dinner with a few friends where I was riding on an empty stretch of road that's basically a peripheral ring road. It had a section which has a bend where you can't see much ahead until the road straightens back up. As I clear that section, what I suddenly see were brake lights. This was a section of road I was very familiar with n it has no intersections for the next 3-4km n traffic never builds up at that point. I quickly got on the brakes but figured that it wasn't gonna help n so I braced for impact. Hit the vehicle from behind, my face smacked the rear windshield of the car but proceeded to get tossed over the car n landed in front of it. My mistake was that I hadn't worn a helmet since this place I went for dinner was barely 3km away from home. So my face ended up takin initial impact n then gettin tossed over the car n landing on the road broke a few ribs, dislocated jaw n slipped 2 vertebral discs. Later got to know that the car was stopped there cos driver was *answerin a phone call* ....in the fast lane of a stretch of road where the average speeds are about 100 kph! 🤷🏽♂️ The second crash happened around 2016 when I t-boned a sedan cos he the guy jumped a traffic signal where the lights were green for me for another 30 odd seconds. As I approached the intersection I slowed down abit but then got off the brake seeing that I had the right of way. I saw the sedan at the intersection but just as I was about to cross, he suddenly jumped the signal. Ended up hitting the rear of the car n went airborne n landed abit ahead. Luckily I had my helmet n riding gear on n they took most of the impact n damage. But landing on my chest ended up fracturing the same ribs that I broke before along with my right elbow. However, I was back on a bike within 2-3 weeks of both incidents. I've had a few other minor falls but those were on track. So I don't consider them to be the same since it's in a controlled environment n the fall was more or less me learning what the limits of the bikes were. The only advice I have for you based on my experiences is to have ridin gear on as much as possible. They really really help! A good helmet, riding jacket n good gloves can more or less give you ample protection if you daily a motorcycle. As the saying goes: _"Dress for the slide, not the ride."_ Ride safe brother 🤘🏽
Definitely. I just had a car turn left in front of me. Broken collarbone and ankle. I've already purchased a new bike. Can't ride it yet but I can polish the mess out of it😂😂
Very often 'free' 'healthcare' is fake healthcare. Like in Finland: their healthcare is totally fake, you don't necessarily get anything, and any malpractice is your problem.

My dad is going through this exact same thing right now and has been for almost a year after his motorcycle crash the surgery was a complete failure and it never healed right and now he’s more than likely going to have to have his foot amputated
Been riding for 20 ish years. Loud pipes do not save lives, they piss off the neighborhood. Want proof, here we go. Why don't ambulances, fire trucks and police vehicles have rear mounted sirens? They're always on the front. By the time you see the noise maker, it's often times too late. Riders that act like they have to share the road, instead of owning it, from my view is the biggest life saver I have seen. Too often the loud ones are hauling butt which is even more confusing to other drivers and is quite often deadly.
You're exactly right about the exhaust. Add to that, the sound is getting left behind as you drive forwards. Emergency vehicles outrun their sirens at about 50MPH. I don't understand bikers, how they feel that they must go 200MPH and weave between cars while they lack any safety protection.
There is a line between a nice rumble and an obnoxious bone rattling noise. Just like the line between riding with courtesy and awareness and being a menace. Say what you will about where the sound emanates I’ve had more close calls by inattentive drivers riding my sewing machine quiet Honda than my rumbling Ducatis.
Been there. Still am there. Ten years ago I broke my cervical spine, followed by a wreck (rear ended) and boke my lumbar spine. Still have the plates and bolts, crushed spinal cord, pain, dogs and cats getting along... But at one point, I said, screw it. Im gonna work out. I cant feel spine pain if Im pushing and feeling muscle pain right?
One of my friends hit a car head on at ~100mph 3 days ago while overtaking a bus, he had already died and they barely got him back he is now in a coma with one arm completely gone and one of his legs gone knee down. His life is now completely ruined and he is only 19, i honestly think about if i should sell my motorcycle now even though riding is my favorite thing ever
@@GearHeadGirl omg you replyed thank you the bloody roo hopped away did not call the ambo or the cops just buggered off lol no i did not have full gear at 3am on a vx1100 other than thermals jens lether jacket and boots < jens where the olny part no leather> the roos head impacted my shin with its head at 75mph and shatted my right leg in 6 places and throgh skill and luck i stayed on the bike olny to drop it when i came to a stop ive olny been hit by a car on my bike once but that was when i was a learner i was olny 19 on a gn250 im just glad the trafic going the other way was light seeing thats where i jumpped to thank you for replaying @GearHeadGril you have a good one and as i say Stay Up Right

Pfft... Many of us as riders have had horrific crashes and still ride or don't ride or did not make it. Buttttt I guess since we don't fit a narrative... Like if we had boobies and like a ton of social media like photos maybe like our stories like could be shared. Not like it matters. Like maybe if you like I don't know like maybe if we as riders like use our brains like maybe this wouldn't happen to us like regardless of how ignorant we are. Like... I think that.makes sense. Growing up riding dirt bikes and quads, it's always amazed me how unseriously some bike riders take riding quads. Sending a quad off of a cliff without even realizing it is wild lol
So a motorcycle crash where one party was uninsured and the insured party got screwed over by the insurance they have just for this reason. Sounds like a typical American Tuesday. You got lucky many people crashed into like that can't function anymore. Amateur mistake not watching behind yourself on a bike. It's well known No one pays attention when driving anymore doesn't have to be a deaf guy.
0:53 Can confirm, I hate riding with people that ride thumpers with loud exhausts. Sounds horrible. Riding with people that have loud 4 cylinder bikes, however... 🤌

@@GearHeadGirl Umm, my Ford van was destroyed in my driveway, it was around midnight. No front mufflers on the Honda (car) so myself and my neighbors didn't hear it either. We have to get used to noise. I actually have hearing difficulties. My lack of hearing still has me, at 55 years old, with zero accidents. Those boys that stole the Honda probably didn't have any hearing issues, they stole a car and wrecked my life. I have known one person that was deaf and still had a license and as of 40 plus years he's not had an accident. Proper drivers need more than hearing. I agree with you to a large percent, but more wrecks happen with "Regular drivers" than deaf people, they are a small percentage. We need better law enforcement to be allowed to help us all out and quit the "defund the police" trash. We all deserve better.
Not necessarily. Exhaust pipes point backwards and you're leaving the sound behind you as you drive. My car has such good sound insulation that I don't even hear ambulance sirens until they're on my bumper.
I’d bet my 2006 gsxr 1k with hot bodies slash cut exhaust was louder. I passed an old woman at 180 she was doing like 40 she called the cops and thought a fighter jet from near by Air Force base sonic boomed right by her at low altitude 😂
Congrats! Why do you complain or laugh at a person doing closer than the speed limit than you? Don't care if it's a sweet Suzi, but come on dude, if you need to go that fast, take it to the track. I ride Honda, I'm not ashamed, won some and lost some, so would the "old woman" if she wanted to. She has a standard drivers license on standard roads why does she have to look out for double or triple speed limit idiots that push the envelope with common drivers? I don't get it bud.
If more people would open their eyes, and, grow the balls to just STOP doing things that make them miserable, this world would be a better place! If you don't enjoy what you do for a living, just STOP, and, find something that DOES make you happy! It's as simple as that.
The drunk had money for booze, he had money for your bike and injuries. Hope you don't have to pay out of pocket for all the surgeries and hospital stay.
