One thing I dislike of Chinese gardens, ponds, lakes is that why the water is akwats so green full of algae? I like crystal clear water which looks blue by reflecting the color of sky.
As a Chinese who spent his first 20 years in China, can't believe I'm learning my own culture from a non-Chinese. Thank you so much, Amy. You are not only helping others to know about China but also a lot of Chinese to know better about their own culture.
@@reindeerfrogg7194 He is making fun of you that you don't know your own culture. I would say that no Chinese can truly understand all the complexities and intricacies of a country that is bigger than Europe. It is not a shame. He is trolling you, somewhat.
@@pengfu8608 I would say it depends on what kind of people to be shameful. Some people don't know much about their own culture and don't care much about it either, yet very eager to learn and very knowledgeable specifically about the West, but not of other cultures. If the person is an all rounder ignorant that's justifiable.
6:29 The text is "浴鸥"(bathing gulls) because the name of the pond is "浴鸥池"( the pond where gulls take bath). BTW the traditional Chinse writing order is from right to left.
The stone tablets are NOT boundary stones to mark the boundaries of houses. They are Shi Gan Dang (石敢当). They are used to avoid evils and wish good fortune.
Just talking and see the beauty, sceneries and atmosphere about the last city I stayed for few months in China , Suzhou , makes me so nostalgic !!! thanks Amy for sharing that
In my region, a small town in Zhejiang, we call the wontons filled with AIR TangBao(汤包) (so it not only exists in Suzhou, haha). The meat is very tiny, the pastry is very thin. I like it, but I always eat it with vinegar and and a little bit of Chili powder. For me, the vinegar is the soul(Just a personal preference, I eat many things with vinegar). We also eat salty Doujiang in the moring usually with BaoZi and YouTiao. Put soy source, some pickles into the Soy milk you get the basic version of salty Doujiang. When I was a child, I would cut the Youtiao into blocks and mix them with salty Doujiang
I lived in 麗水 for 3 years, and I'd often eat 縉雲燒餅與小混沌。Honestly, I thought all wonton had almost no meat! I was shocked when I finally had "big wontons" and they were so juicy and meaty. edit: recently I'm living in Taiwan, so all my things are set to type in traditional characters
As soon as I saw the wonton in the thumbnail, I knew you were in my hometown Suzhou again.. and I clicked on the video right away. And yeah, the meat in the wonton is just for providing flavor.. It was my favorite breakfast as a kid
I love Chinese gardens, they are so peaceful and zen! This garden really reminds me of the Chinese Gardens in Sydney Darling Harbour :D One of the things that i like about Chinese Gardens and Chinese traditional architecture and landscaping, are the round entrances and windows. Those doorways are meant to capture the scenery like a beautiful picture. The guy that drew all those pictures were so amazing! He can probably publish those into an art book one day XD Oh! I watched a video on the Goldthread channel about these bubble wontons and i was so intrigued and got excited when i saw you were going to try these! Your friend is so cool, Thankyou for another amazing video :D I always feel happy when i see an upload from you :)
it should be pronuced as " CHAN n', not " zen" zen is japanese pronication of chinese word" 禅", the japanese copied chinese word and learned chinese Buddhism from ancient china , " Can" is chinese denomination of buddsim , develope in china , its chiense concept and understanding of buddihnist doctrine , japan copied almost everything from china//
@@xinyiquan666 Yeah, I know. but unfortunately in the english vacabulary people tend to use the word "Zen" to describe it due to Japanese influence (Yes i know they copied it from Chinese culture) :/ That's why i used ”Zen" instead of Chan 禅.
It is "bath seagull" if translate by each charactor. So I guess it actrually means (or just a wish of the owner ) the pool has seagulls swimming in it. 浴鸥池在艺圃的西南,以一圆门与主园联通,门上书“浴鸥”二字,此池甚小,与大水池成对比。浴鸥池萦回多姿,又被两座精致的小桥分割,显得很有层次。Reference: zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E8%89%BA%E5%9C%83
Hey Amy, just wanna say great job on all your videos and including your parents in is so awesome. Your mom is super sweet and adventurous and your dad is super funny especially with the random things he says. I feel like im watching a comedy. Keep up the great work Amy and take care!
@@BlondieinChina Hi! what kind of visa did you get? and how are you able to get QR Codes for COVID? many places require CHINESE IDs to get the covid code
Welcome to Suzhou, and I definitely recommend Amy can try Shengjian(生煎)in Suzhou. Actually people from Shanghai and Suzhoh all think this food is belonging to their city, people in suzhou think Shengjian was originated in Suzhou. 哑巴生煎 is the place most well known place to eat Shengjianbao(生煎包). I‘m not sure this place is the best or not. But for me it's really nice.
Occasionally I just watched a video introduces the guideline of greenery coverage projects from Chinese government yesterday. It said China will keep launching more and more environmental protection projects which include the desert and ocean to keep their carbon neutral goal achieved. And in other side, China will increase the greenery coverage of urban area, in addition to organizational measures to protect those ancient gardens, also decide to build more city parks. We can expect China will be more and more environmentally friendly.
@@docvideo93 It's a Chinese narration vid, but a youtuber make a video to show some mega projects from the guideline as I mentioned. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oNvJPH1LHfA.html
I love the fan, and you are right Blondie; it is a great invention. I see if I can get one from Aliexpress. It will be great for the hot Australian summer.
When Amy finally got back to China, I was really excited. I wish I can join you and go back to China. But right now, I am stuck in Sydney lockdown and struggling for getting the Covid vaccine. Miss free travel soooooo much!
Born and raised in Suzhou. The chicken feet 响油蟮糊 炒河虾仁海棠糕 梅花糕 杨梅 are amazing as well. We eat according to seasons. For each season, we eat the fresh produce. Miss my home so much!
Salty Soy milk is also popular as Shanghai breakfast too,it include dough stick, dry seaweed, dry little shrimp, vinegar, soy sauce, pickle pieces and little bit chilly oil
I've been alway wanted to go to Suzhou/Hangzhou to explore those amazing food/architecture especially Suzhou Gardens....thank you so much for your video!
Yeah that fertilized egg is not for everyone. A lot of people can't eat it, you'll actually more likely find someone who can't/wont eat than someone who would eat it.
Hi Amy, I am a Suzhou native who’s been living in Melbourne for more than 20 years. I have been following your channel for a while now and can’t believe you’ve made it to my hometown. It’s so reminiscing to see those familiar alleys and streets and those airy bubble wontons and savoury soy milk just brought me straight back to my childhood. Love your passion for food, language and culture! Keep up the good works and enjoy your travel in China.
I believe it taste much better with less meat wrap inside the wanton. In our places there are restaurant who prepare the wanton with less meat and it taste much better if the wanton skin is thinner. Wonderful feat.
I highly recommend you to go to visit Mt. Yellow in Anhui. It is a place that you shouldn’t miss. When you go there, you will be totally amazed by the endless mountain sceneries as well as all the unique local Hui architecture which will give you a refreshing impression of how the locals live. Highly recommended.
suzhou breakfast is the same as shanghai breakfast, we eat savoury tofu pudding too, not the fertilized egg tho. bubblely wonton we also eat in shanghai, but slightly more filling, and some spring unions inside, no dipping sauce either.
The bubble wontons is similar to small wonton, just enjoy the flavor instead of focusing on meat. Welcome to my hometown, an ancient city well-known for its stunning gardens, rivers and bridges, never forget to mention the Suzhou dialect. This city is 3rd wealthiest in China. Enjoy your time while we have been in lockdown in Sydney for more than 2 months.
Yes! The ultimate wonton is eating the wonton skin. Meat is just a touch on the skin to give it a bit flavor. It is close to congee (rice porridge) than to dumpling. Wonton, in an alternative Chinese character writing 雲吞, has the direct translation of "Cloud Swallowing." So yes it is dumpling filled with air, exactly. LOL :)
From his accent. I am 100% sure your guide is from either Malaysia or Singapore. I cannot tell beyond that as we are quite indistinguishable in accent 😁 Anyway, nice tour, Blondie.
In my hometown, we call this bubble wuntun as 清汤 which means fresh soup. The soup and thin pastry is the key. It's the first time i know the same wuntun as in my hometown, thanks Amy :)
Amy you should meet Thomas the Germany Ah Fuk ,I think both of you will make amazing number of views .I'm having lockdown in Sydney, missed so much good food in China ,it's so good no mask wearing in China and freedom to travel town to town , best wishes to you Cheers.
I have never seen your prior videos, but judging from the tone that your friend (Andy?), he's either from Malaysia or Singapore. They speak English like they are in a hurry, no time for curry.
