This is an amazing album. Check out Phoebe Bridgers. I thought I would take a stab at this one. Love the drum sounds. LUDWIG! Subscribe: / @cartermclean www.cdbaby.com/...
Fantastic. Two things I'm stealing immediately. 1) Toms are for more than fills. I simply would not normally head for toms right out the gate in a folky song like this. You show that it works beautifully and i need a bigger vocabulary. 2) Despite your enormous vocabulary on the drums, your fills are simple and effective. Which means the one time you do a syncopated fill, its purpose is to emphasize the highpoint of the song. Your restraint for the sake of arrangement is something I need to be better at. Thank you!
I finally got this album two weeks ago, and have thought numerous times, "this song would be great with drums on it, if done right." Fast forward to today, where I run across this video, and then realize I watched in 4 weeks ago before I had the album and loved it then. Impeccable playing and grace Carter. Always a pleasure.
For me you have the best sound at all for low volume drumming to soft melodic acoustic music. It' s such a mellow warm, dark and subtle addition to the complex tonal sound that has a little magic.......I'm simply overwhelmed .........
This video introduced me to Phoebe Bridgers, and I have been a fan ever since. Thanks Carter! As usual you are a masterful artist!!! Always "wow" from me.
Carter, your drums and cymbals sound so good. I guess it's a combination of touch, tuning, gear, miking and mixing?? Is that right? I'd love to hear the drums live without mics :-)
Hey Carter. I love how you delay the start of the chorus and add that simple but very epic snare fill. You have a talent for making awesome (musical and interesting) drum set arrangements. I'm actually commenting to ask your opinion on those close mics, the Earthworks DM20s. I'm considering purchasing them for recording my toms. How do you feel about them?
Amazing, love Phoebe Bridgers. That drum part is something I’d never have thought of with this track and turns the song on its head for me (in a good way). Have you gone down the rabbit hole of “holy shit, Phoebe Bridgers is great => holy shit boygenius is great! => holy shit Lucy Dacus is great! => holy shit Julien Baker is great!” ?
I've listened to this a hundred times now...mono overhead? Really focused centre image either way. Still sounds like a big warm hug around the song! Also, what's the weight of the sig ride?
