Hah, actually the locomotives are the only relics from communism. The wagons are from former Deutsche Bahn commuters brought over in the mid 2000s. Until 1991, the trains were in great shape, however budget cuts after the fall of communism and lack of maintenance brought it down to this horrible state.
Looks very interesting because its not preparet well and they do nothing repair but think its not a comunist era Train it looks like a old Deutsche Bahn Train from the 1980 and think its a gift from Germany Stuttgart after the 2000 and they send the Trains to Albania . Comunist Trains are much more older and indside they have not modern seats like this . Your Airbnb looks very modern and nice . Have agreat time in a nice Country with friendly people.
Oh my God, we met someone from Germany who saw the train photos and he said the same thing! And now we know :) Thanks! Albania was incredible. Very nice people indeed. They really made our trip so so special ❤️
hahaha everyone thought we were crazy when we were asking around about this train! But yes, still around... although the schedule is not set in stone 😂
Construction started in 2021 and expected to finish 2024 the railway renovations and new train stations in durres and Tirana. It will be completed between Tirana-durres they are being redone by an Italian company for 110+ million euros! And the rest of the railway and trains as well😊
Good videography - you did a good job of making the introduction to the train look like a horror movie. Yikes! Super-cool to share this crazy train journey with you.
Thanks so much Steve & Tammy ❤️ It felt like a horror movie at times hahaha but we are happy we got the chance to ride this very unique train! You guys should do it if you come to Albania :)
Very interesting experience. We definitely appreciated how unique it was, that's for sure! And please do it if you go to Albania! Thanks for the kind words :)
@@waysoftheworld_ does it have to be Durres? We are going to visit Albania for the second time this year. Absolutely loved the country back in April - Central and South Albania. This time the plan is to see autumn Albania Tirana and North of it in beginning of October.
@@TWOLOVELYPEOPLETRAVEL that's so cool that you guys are going back! Albania must be so STUNNING during Fall! Don't miss Theth and Lake Komani! About the train... The routes are not like set in stone LOL they are slowly decommissioning these trains and some of the routes, so you just have to be lucky. When we were there, Durres to Elbasan was the only route. You can check their IG (yes, they have an IG!)... maybe even DM them when the date is closer and see what route is available at the time of your visit. Here's their handle: @hekurudha_shqiptare_hsh (it's all in Albanian, but our airbnb host helped us figure it out). Good luck guys!!
Juli le dio un “thumbs up” a este vídeo de “Las Aventuras de Bibi y Gordon” y dijo que Gordon se parecía a Gordon de Thomas & Friends 😂 we love you!!!!!
I saw the train in 2011 when I first arrived here on the way from the bus near Duress. We would use the Bus or taxi.Even last month when I came i didn't see the train in fact was looking out ..We used the public transport.
Yeah, we were kind of lucky because when we asked around in the station, everyone said that the train doesn't have a set schedule... and they also thought we were crazy hahaha
It was definitely an experience. We really hope they get new trains. It was an experience for us, but the state of this trains is not acceptable. Albanians deserve way better!
My dad says then Enver Hoxha's train were amazing at their time. Back then Albania was for a lot of aspects a better country. Obviously it was a dictatorship, but at least it was a serious country and less corrupted
So, don't misunderstand me, life was hard and the people had less freedom, but in 30 years of democracy (which obv I totally support) Albania lost what it reached (trains, military planes and vehicles etc)
I wrote this comment because I was at Bunk'art 2 one week ago, and I was wondering if people who visit it think that nowadays Albania is totally better than the Hoxha's time, because it is not true. Anyway thank you for the video and for visited my country
Hi! :) We 100% understand what you are trying to say. We had a lot of conversations with locals during our 2.5 month trip throughout Albania, and even though everyone did prefer democracy, it seemed like they were all equally disappointed with the corruption level EVERYWHERE. Albania should be in a much better place than where it is today. It was very sad to learn how much young and hard working people want to leave Albania in search for better opportunities. I understand the feeling. I (Aimara) come from a very corrupted country too (Venezuela) and I had to leave because I wanted to have a better future for myself. Our hope with our videos is to tell the story of the amazing Albanian people, how beautiful the country is and hopefully encourage people to visit. Take care and thanks for the kind words. We know what you tried to say :)
Happy to hear you enjoyed the video!! I don't think I would have gone if I would have known how it looked like LOL... G is the one who does all the research and I just show up with the camera hahaha you can imagine my face when I saw the train for the first time hahaha
Technically anything that was running during the communist regime IS a communist era.....the country did away with communism in 1991. You are correct that it was a communist era train.
That’s the beauty of it something unusual from the past I used to ride on them when I was a kid couldn’t weight to go to my grandparents on the island and stay there every summer those were the amazing times we had back then
