Plowed the farm for years with my Super A. Grandfather bought it to plow the docks at Albany NY in the Winter, cultivated all Summer. Still use it to this day. Original engine, clutch, brakes, paint. I did upgrade to 12V and replaced the rear tires. That old gal could push more snow than many a newer tractor could ever dream of. Not sure why. Run the farm with a Super H, Super C, Super A, and a 240 for probably 90+% of the work. Bought the H just out of High School back in 1985. The C I got in a trade for a toy pedal tractor in the late 1990's. Also run a W4, again from Grandpa. Everything from baling with a kicker and wagon to hilling potatoes. Have several other (larger) tractors from my Father. He liked Oliver's. I like tractors that start and run. Those old letter series tractors can work twice as hard for half the fuel and none of the repairs. Only thing that ever came close is those old 2 cyl JD's.
That Cub would be the ticket for my property, perfect size to work the garden plots in the summer and plow driveway in the winter. Deff considering one when i get ready to purchase a tractor
No, I absolutely would NOT use that to plow a driveway. I would retire that Cub to KY to be painted and for a life of pulling grandkids in parades. Still would like to have first dibs on it if you ever sell it.
Nice little Cub snow blade setup... But, to answer your question of: Would I use it to plow my driveway? Nah. I mean, I would ONLY if it were the absolute ONLY thing I had to use. Be a handy little "emergency back-up" unit to have on hand, I suppose. Fortunately for me, I have a half-dozen far better options, including a good 3/4-ton pickup truck with a snowplow.
when running calcium the older tractors had ww2surplus canvis inner tubes with inner liners as long as you did not puncture them they lasted a very long time. in the 70s when i worked for an IH dealer i mounted several sets of tires on old farmalls and if the canvas tubes had no patches or holes in them we reused them and the rims looked like new inside. it was shop policy when we mounted new tires we repainted the rims inside and out with thick aliminium paint.
I have plowed snow with my cub but had to put chains on as well. It's pretty impressive by how much it can push. But it is slow, and where I am, we get quite a bit of snow, and it doesn't work well for banks. Plus it is a little slow. I have since acquired a skid steer for plowing duties. As for the cub, I put my blade underneath, and it is an awesome tool for grading my driveway during the summer.
Absolutely would use it to plow. I use my 52 cub to plow with whenever we get snow. Mine is set up just like your 55, but i also have 2 sets of front wheel weights and 2 sets of rear weights. Really made a difference when the blade is down.
I have a blade actually three blade's for the Cubs have not mounted them up yet but do have my 2 point rear blade on my 460 backed in my shop ready to open the door and drive out we just had about 4" of snow but supposed to be back to 50 degrees so not going to push snow this time. My brother has a canvas heat houser for his Cub only one I have seen for a cub so they did make them
Great minds think alike. I just got the blade mounted on my M yesterday. Then got the snow plow for the truck out of storage to. We're supposed to get around an inch of snow tonight. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving!👍
Nothing wrong with the fiddy fi, fiddy fi, plowing the drive. It’s not like ya have a 5 mile driveway. Like I always say, you do you FF, and that’s all there is to it🇺🇸💪🏻🇺🇸MERICA
Excellent video Gino :) also think need have weight on front wheels to help blade for winter season push snow around and yes that switch on battery box think over kill on if person not lose power take terminal cable post off battery if lots draw down! I know one time my late Father on the 1963 B414 McCormick International Desiel fuel loader tractor left Key ignition spot we had toggle switch to on because old key ignition switch not doing job anymore! Was 3 month after restoration tractor put GM Delco Alternator 70 amp 1968 year also my dad move snow all day he left switch to on postion and was working on work bench in machinery shed to fix my pick up Truck Alternator at nighttime on rebuilt and smell B414 near some hot 🔥 burning bad odors ! So open hood on B414 and what Alternator red hot glowing and red on case look toggle switch and was on turn off cool Alternator down in 2 hours! Then when truck boost up B414 battery was low charge got and B414 tractor Alternator screw up no recharge on gauge plus my volt testing equipment! So next morning at breakfast told my dad got get new battery and Alternator because left switch on B414 Loader tractor and use 724 B to do snow removal till full fix up B414 ! My dad said funny remark I am dumb to that and lucky me found it or be fire 🔥 lose tractor or battery blow up too! I said dad couldn't happen to anyone and we make mistakes Lol! He said yes agree 👍!
Happy Thanksgiving!! I’ve been out on my red power this morning. Moved hay bales and did some clean up. I hope you can forgive for me using a CaseIH but you do what you have to. Love your videos. Take care.
Now that Cub looks much more natural with those rear wheel weights. For a while I couldn't understand why Grandpa didn't get the fast hitch on his 55 then it dawned on me. Before he died in 1975, seems like he told me he had an older Cub he traded in for the 55. He traded tractors and kept all the equipment he got with the older Cub. Heater and a cab??? That Cub looks like a DOT motor grader compared to a snow shovel.
Plows not bad to mount at all. No, Carhardts, good boots, hat, gloves and you're good to go. You do live in the lake effect snow belt. Stay warm. How'd your corn and beans turn out?
I absolutely would/have. Grew up in western PA plowing with a cub. Currently living in utah and could use a Cub right about now. Not much red out here.
I sold off two of those blades and a super A-140 factory plow as well as a SC factory blade and a 52 JD M with a factory plow. They were ok, but I won’t lie, I prefer a modern tractor with mfwd, power steering and the like
You have duels. I would have added wings to the plow. Our city had a cub with a V plow to do the sidewalks in the park. The only thing wrong on a cub is if you have a wet snow it is a bear to push straight. Did they every make a heat hawser for a cub? Canvas over the engine to blow the heat on your face and the plastic windows to cut down the wind. We had one for the H to spread manure in the Winter.
I probably might use that to plow my driveway but I don't want to upset my Chevy plow truck every now and then the 454 has a drinking problem the more it drinks the loser it gets 😆
Speaking of plowing snow, I79 along Lake Erie is rough driving in the winter. Buffalo is the only thing that comes close. It’s good to here y’all’s stories, but I’ll stick with the alligators and cottonmouths.
I have a plow for the Cub lo-boy at Mom's and one for my Cub at home guess well see how they do but based on your video from last year I'm not sweating it 😁
This is a really dumb question, are you going to get the super C or the 756 ready for the deeper snow? Or are you going to wait to it’s closer to that point?
I wouldn't think twice about using that tractor it would be pretty fun . We don't get very much snow here it''s mainly anywhere North of I-70 . The weatherman said we haven't had an inch of rain since July first so we might get hit with a huge snow this year . I have lived around here my whole life and I have never seen a huge snow storm the last one was in 1978 the year I was born . How did the late planting corn do ? Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend !
I'm glad to hear you got the calcium out of your tires. The weights look awesome on there. Looking forward to seeing it in action. Hopefully not too much snow, just enough to have a little fun with, lol. It's always nice to see you have some seat time. I know how much I enjoy my farmall b. Even if I am just riding around the block with it. It's a 6 mile block and I have a great time just taking it for a spin. See you soon.
Good move on getting rid of the calcium. That stuff does so much damage! Beautiful little cubby! Also, I'm in Winnipeg, and we actually only get an average of about 50"/year. North Dakota should be about the same. Reason we get less snow than you is the brutally cold weather normally comes with less snow.
That's a really nice set up that 💪👍 is that the alternator or oil pump that makes that whine or is it just because of the low swept exhaust that you can't hear the exhaust sound 🤔Red Power 💪💥
with the size of the North American farmer going up..i mean weight...a little fresh air, and exercise ..to change the angle of the blade isn't a bad thing. id have to have chains for my driveway..huge incline. Nice, set up ! No more deer?
I have to go out today and get my super A ready. It's wrapped up like a Christmas present because I repainted a 79 F250 this summer and I couldn't handle ANY GREEN PAINT on my farmall. Love your videos. Keep them coming please
in the last year or two bismarck nd almost broke its snowfall record at a little over 100" so if you would be so kind please keep you 150 average there thanks have a good day
My father always said if you're going to put calcium in tractor tires You might as well burn the money because then at least you get a little heat. That is what weights are for and that is what you use weights for.
Absolutely NOT that tractor is ok for 2-3 inches and thats it been there did that even with a super A not good for any significant amount of snow . Don't try to say oh ya it will ! Look no tire chains for one , blade is way to light , Nah no way seen you video from last time and there wasn't that much snow . Come up to the real snowbelt where we measure in feet not inches 😉
I'm hoping to play in the snow with my cub this winter. I just got a international low boy 185 given to me by my dad with a belly mower, he also gave me a one point fast hitch rear blade for my cub. So I'm definitely looking forward to pushing some snow, until I got this 185 I had to take off the fast hitch to mow and put it back on for other jobs, I don't know if anyone here has ever put one back on. It's a terrible job. If you've never messed with the 154, 185 low boys. You should get ya one sometime. The power difference between a cub and a 185 cub is nuts
