Nah the E7 was so called because it gave a total of 7 hours heat tariff, per 24 hours. Usually supplied in one fell swoop, most companies supplied it starting close to midnight, though it varied in some areas and some areas even had teleswitches - unusual demand days such as Christmas Eve, especially if it was a Friday, could have drastically differing E7 hours from whatever was considered "the norm". The south of England seemed to use motor driven timeswitches that had a seal on them like a meter seal, though in later years it was left up to the installer to set and fit the cover. (though they would have much less need for heat than say Aberdeen or Inverness) Some companies (Northern Electric notably) also offered "Super Tariff", where you got a 2 hour boost in the afternoon and 5 hours overnight, adding up to the 7. Having once lived in a place with E7 (actually, Super Tariff) I can confidently say the whole idea was shit because it was primarily taken up by shit landlords that rented out completely uninsulated 100 or 150 year old properties to avoid the need for a gas inspection every year. Night storage heaters required very good draughtproofing and insulation levels so were bloody hopeless is such places.

E7 on at roughly midnite until 7am. Varies by region.

The Economy 7 was popular with shops and offices where they got max heat output between 9-5pm. with domestic, the heaters had cooled down considerably in the evening and some had to be boosted at full unit rate.

Economy 7 basically 7 hours any time from 23:30 depending on your supplier and varied for BST/GMT Daughter has it, just one meter, no seperate CU circuits, covers the whole house. Dont forget Economy 10 as well.🤔

POD. I had off peak electricity in 1977, 0.9p/kWh as opposed to 4p day time. Ripple meter kicked in at 18.30, lights dimmed as four x 3kw heaters and a immersion drained the grid. Cost around £99.00 per quarter, got gas central heating in soon after.

POD - those drill pods are like gold dust, would love one to help organise my load-out. Video wise, I'd say a bit of a mix. If I want serious I go to Artisan, if I want comedy I go to Savo. Sit in the middle is what I would say. That being said, do what is best for you with what you're comfortable doing. No point spending hours extra editing if it doesn't alter views/likes/financial return. I'm looking to do my own channel in the world of IT Tech, daily vlogs put together to one every couple of weeks. So rather that being tutorial based (as there are many out there), it'll just show the range that I do. One minute up a ladder installing outdoor wifi and the next removing viruses from a laptop etc - so might need some promotion from a fellow midlander.... 😂😂

Economy 7 was a product of the majority of the UK's power generation being from coal. Coal plants can't ramp up and down quickly, think combi gas boiler vs coal boiler response times. It was cheaper and more efficient to discount and encourage night power, now the introduction of smart meters allows for a more nuanced system.

I think I would find little short clips of memes more funny than the pop up pictures. You say alrighty then quite a lot, the occasional clip of the Jim Carey original would be quite funny. That’s just an example. And all in my humble opinion

Economy 7 making come back due to EVs. But can you show some calculations perhaps, whether its economical or how much better for the household, since getting cheaper night rate means the day rate when normally people use most of energy is evenings?

Bricks? We had a 2000-3000 liter water tank that was heated. The water from the tank circulated in the radiators and it also was used to heat hot water. That was to my knowledge rater popular tin the 60s. In the 70s people went more to direct electric heating as that was cheaper to install. Sine then the house has been converted to district heating. As I understand there was just one feed but they sent some control signal to switch the meter and turn the heating on. Now with smart meters the signal only turns heating and the billing changes based on the clock and one does not need two meters.

Sorry to disillusion you Nick, but much of the UK is not on the gas network, and has to rely on other fuels such as electricity and storage heaters. Storage heaters were only invented to make use of cheaper night time electricity, and even so are still dearer than gas.

I’m not a fan of the pics but some viewers might be? So meet in the middle and tone it down would be great! Otherwise really enjoy the channel
