Most people are smart enough to figure out that this is not a review. Those not smart enough to realize this would probably find the video worthless as "a review", because, it's not a review.
Dude, you have totally got me into this stuff. Complete random find of your channel about a week ago, and I'm hooked. You are a hidden gem for sure. Love your way of explaining things with your style humor. Informative, without being overbearing. Keep it up
Super same here! I live on RU-vid looking at cb radio equipment. Yes, I’m still into that. I’ve stumbled over GMRS radios. Then this page. Learned so much in two days that I got my license 3/14/23. Now I have 2 HTs, jpole, and building a GMRS base station this week! Thanks Randy!!!
I just got my 9g a couple days ago, still trying to learn how to operate it. It looks and feels like a very well made radio. Don't order if you are in a hurry...mine was 6 weeks to the day from order until delivered. So far it was worth the wait
Yeah, sorry about the long wait Terry. The global supply chain issues are wreaking havoc right now. On top of the parts issue, stock is sitting at airports waiting for planes, and I also literally ran out of shipping boxes and had to wait for those (thousands of them). A trifecta of f4çkery. ;) They are flowing good now, but I still have hundreds of orders to catch up on while I wait for the next batch in a week or so. :)
I can tell you that the people at better safe radio are the nicest, most helpful people, I know for fact I made my self a kind of pain in the behind to them and they still helped me, I have nothing but nice things to say about them , The other thing about Better safe radio's is they really know about there products at least when it comes to GMRS radio's
I was wanting to buy a uv 5r for a completely different reason than for gmrs uses. But I have been watching you're videos for the last couple of weeks and I have learned a lot from you. So I am going to buy a uv5r and a uvr9g very soon. I enjoy and watch you're videos all the time, catching up on old videos, always enjoy the humor and learn something new from them. Keep up the great work and videos.
Great review 👍 I enjoyed the break down the rundown of both hand held gmrs radios. I did just put the uv9g on order. I didn't think the price was that much more for the uv9g thank you for your review ☃️
I've bought a couple of Wouxun KG-UV9G Pro and they're great radios. Especially for SHTF situation (hope it never happens). Take his advice if you want this radio is pre-order it. It took them a month to get my radios shipped out. Well worth the wait.
First of all like most have said, you are a hidden gem I came across awhile back. Keep up the great videos. My deciding factor between the two was the antenna mount. All my other radios have the SMA Female so I picked the KG-935G so I could use the NAGOYA 771G with it. My first radio check was to a repeater 8 air miles out and the comment I received was "You sound like you are on a base station"'. Cant do much better than that. Thanks again for all the videos.
Heads up: They make the 771G in male and female versions. And I concur, I’m a long antenna believer myself. I replaced the rubber duckie on my BaoFeng F8HP with a MFJ 1717 and got the same responses. It made a world of difference
I have two 935G radios. When placed next to my 805G, the receive is equal. However, people tell me the transmit clarity of the 935G is much better. Transmitting from in the house to a repeater, at least in my area, the 935G is the winner. I am interested in the smiley stubby. I have their telescopic for home use and Nagoya (genuine) 15” and the Nagoya seems to be the better for me but I have to admit I am partial to the telescopic for portability. Thanks again for the great videos.
I’m actually hoping that I can get the KG 935G for Christmas this year. The UV9G sounds really good too, but I will stick with the 935G for now. Thanks for this video comparison.
Great comparison of the two radios. One thing I would like to see demonstrated (maybe you'll make a new video?) is a field test of the scanner in the KG-UV9G. If you take the scanner into the field, how many of those 800+ channels have something to listen to? Thanks for all the great information you provide about GMRS.
I've been thinking about adding both of them to my collection but I think that the 935G has a much cooler looking display. Actually, forgot I already have the UV-9G. In a side by side comparison with the Nagoya NA- 771G antenna on both the UV-9G and the 905G, the UV-9G received MUCH better.
Yep, I love the display of 935G and wish it had that ability on Wouxun KG-UV9G Pro. Makes me wonder if this feature can be added in via firmware update? Black background is easier on the eyes.
You have convinced me. The UV9G is the one. I live in an overlanding Mecca and superhet helps a lot of with bleedover. I was on 7 today and heard 5-8 on a Midland bubble pack, but the superset in the vehicle rejected everything but 7.
My 2 sons both know more about gmrs radios than the average sad ham now just by being in the room with me while I watch the notarubicon RU-vid channel. They also enjoy the sarcastic humor.
That 935G gave me the jellys a month after I had received the UV9G. I enjoyed your review If I didn't have already also have the 905G and another handful of dual band radios that 935G would be the one! Woxoun is making some great radios (KG-1000G , KG-905G & K-GUV9G - owner)
I like this guys and I find his content very interesting that he already got me buying two radios... the UV-5R and the KG-935G. Don't know what the heck I am doing, but hopefully one day I may be able to talk on one radio. I do have my GMRS license already, so you pinheads out there don't tell me I need a license.
I appreciate the review. While reading other reviews about the Wouxun KG-UV9G Pro someone mentioned the following. Would you agree with this statement? "The biggest misleading info about this unit is it having 900mhz. It doesn't have it. It'll show 900 numbers but actual frequency is in 700mhz. For example any 900mhz dialed on wouxung is less exactly 184.600mhz, so if it has 948.860 then the actual frequency is 762.260mhz."
I dont have any way to test 900Mhz so i just spoke with Mark, the owner of BetterSafeRadio, the only authorized reseller of the Wouxun UV9 series radios in the United States, and the designer of the UV9G Pro. He attests and affirms that any modern UV9G, UV9P, UV9GX or UV9PX does, indeed receive in 900Mhz, exactly as advertised. .. So, based on what Mark tells me, it would seem that "other reviewer" is either FOS, testing wrong, or possibly has a faulty unit.
Thank you very much for reviewing the KG-UV9G PRO..I just got my GMRS License and I wasn't shure what to get. I'm waiting for Nov 5 ham fest on Suwannee GA to get more info.. Thank you WRUH751
I'm no ham, but i'm pretty sure you're not going to get a lot of info on GMRS at a ham-fest.. thats kinda like going to a car-show hoping to learn about a motorcycle isnt it?
I'm totally loving your content you are officially my new fav RU-vidr! I have a total noob question so forgive my ignorance. I'm trying to decide on one of these two radios. When they say they come preprogrammed with SHTF etc. channels, does that mean for my area? I know that is most likely not the case.... Or are there universal channels for this stuff? Again my apologies. I just purchased my license and I'm brand new as to how all this works.
If anybody wants to tighten there Volume Nob All you got to do is Pull it off your UV 5R And put a rubber O ring Under it It makes it nice and stiff And it also Helps keeps dust and water out You can pick up one from your local hardware .
Randy I am a long time ham your video’s are excellent with great information! Thank you Kg6oqk Ed ham radio can be very useful for long distance communication on the HF bands ! Most people don’t need this ! Please keep your videos coming 😂 . - ..
I am new to gmrs and I ordered the 935gx I’m looking forward to seeing what this radio can do not sure what I’m doing but I guess I will have to learn how to use it
I’m gonna have to go with the KG935G due to the ip66 water rating. I’d hate to have the UV model fixed to my plate holder then get stuck in a downpour. With the way this country is headed you will need the ability to fight in the elements without your coms crapping out.
Geared towards preppers and not water proof? Will we ever see the perfect gmrs ht. I’m not a prepper nor do I think doomsday is coming. But if it was I would want the kg-uv9g pro fully water proof like the baofeng uv-9g, with a color screen an putting out a true 5.5 watts like the kg-935g. With that being said my kg-935g will finally deliver today after waiting 2 weeks. I get the whole weekend to play with it. Great video as always. Thanks. 🙏🙏
IF they made an IP67 radio with the same quality and specs, you can be sure it would already be out. I've been pushing Wouxun to make that very radio for a long time, and they are working on designs, but it takes a long time to design. Still, IP55 is no slouch. With the proper protection, it will do just fine in SHTF, as long as you don't flee to the ocean or under a river. :) The 935G isn't waterproof either, just somewhat more resistant.
Of course I found this video the day after buying the 5G 🤦🏻♂️ i wanted a radio for SHTF scenario but am just learning that the 9G is better suited for that. I guess I can learn on the 5G and buy the 9G also? They both have to have use cases right? What do you guys think?
Hey could you advise someone who "may" need readers which one has larger fonts? I was just about to order one, but came here first to double check my decision... now I'm torn. I'm now leaning to the adjustable color screen... thoughts? I've got the baofeng and just not able to read the screen anymore.
Very informative and helpful vid! I wonder if one could transplant the innards of the UV9G into the 935G's shell and gain the better IP rating and sexier screen. It'd be cool if Wouxun could do that... But it'd be cooler if Bow-Chikka-Wow-Chang did it.
I've been pushing Wouxun to do that for years, but it's not going to happen until the UV10 (or whatever) comes out. There will be a new version of the UV9G that adds the dark screens and stiff knobs and some other great upgrades for SHTF though, so stay tuned. ;)
2 great radios, Would you recommend the 9g pro over the yaesu fta450L for Airband quality receive, i love gmrs but im just looking for a great Airband Receive, i don't mind gmrs with it as long as the Airband is Good Quality, tnx man!
Both are great radios, I just wish Randy that they had made the 935g radio with a superhetdrodyne reciever. I don't understand why Wouxon did this. I thought it was stupid for them to do this since most People would have paid the extra monies to buy it. Hopefully, They'll come out with a newer version of the 935g With a Superhet reciever. Just my opinion, Thanks for the Video on these two radios.
The truth is that most people would NOT pay the extra $ for a superhet radio. Wouxun knows that most GMRS users to not really care if a radio is superhet or not, and they know that if the 935G was a superhet the price would be so high (probably $200+) that they would not sell as many..
True, but I would have paid for it anyway Randy,I ordered a uv9gx myself and I'm still waiting for it. Thank You for Your reply. Keep up the videos. I'm a radio geek Myself. I have a ton of radios and love them.
Bought the 935, and yesterday going through settings menu came upon menu item #39. Thought this would delete FM radio channels I had earlier programmed in…WRONG !!! I deleted the first 5 GRMS Radio frequencies !! Then went to menu item #38 in an attempt to reenter them, but cannot figure it out. Would a Reset #56 restore my radio back before my screwup. I only have Apple MacBook computer.
Hi Randy, I have more of repeater question than a comment. I recently purchased my KG935G and have a repeater topic question for you. I understand the difference between CH 15 and RPT 15 on the radio. Question is, will I receive repeater traffic on both CH15 and RPT15 since they both have a 462.550 receive frequency? If yes, then without the correct tone input to that particular repeater, on RPT15 I would not be able to talk to folks on that repeater, correct? If that is correct, if I am on CH15 and hear traffic, how do I know if that traffic is Simplex or Repeater traffic? I hope I am not making your head explode. Enjoy the videos and appreciate your help. Doug - WRNP716
When monitoring CH15 you will also hear repeater 15. To talk on the repeater, you need the correct transmit tone, but to listen you do not need to use an RX .. usually you can tell if someone is on a repeater by the 'squelch tail' that you hear after they unkey.. if the repeater has no squelch tail, then it's hard to tell if they are on simplex or a repeater.
@@TheNotaRubicon Randy, thanks for answering my question. I bought the Wouxun “Ocean”. LOL kg935g based on your videos and help. Keep making the videos, love the humor. Thanks again!
Can the UV9G be unlocked to transmit on non GMRS channels in the event of an emergency? My interest in it falls into the prepper category to replace my current UV-5R and have a better radio for regular use in the meantime
Can the UV9G compete with like uniden bcd436hp in terms of scanning performance? can it handle things like trunked, P25, etc? I was considering getting the 436HP but if this can do same level of scanning plus TX and cheaper then its a winner for me.
