In this video I talk about how the NOAA weather function works as well as a few misc. functions including power settings, commander, backlight standby. Overall, this is a great little HT.
“Let’s not do that on the camera.” 😂. Another helpful video. I am not a radio geek at all. Just got my GMRS call sign and this KG 935G radio last week. Thank you for the info.
Lol. Well little by little I'm sure you'll get it. Just takes time. I'm putting together a little video on the Alinco DJVX 50. Hopefully I'll have it tonight if all goes well. It's the radio I'd recommend for new people. It's pretty user friendly and it is of food quality.
Ya, it's nice that they let you adjust the standby light, the default of going to black is pretty annoying. I set mine to brightness level 2. You said that channels 8 - 14 default to Low because they are shared with GMRS. I think you meant because they are shared with FRS.
Back in the early 2000's the FCC allowed combo service radios, and you could legally use them without a GMRS license on 8-14, and on channels 1-7 if they weren't over the half watt limit, or didn't have a removable antenna. In 2017, in order to streamline the FRS & GMRS the FCC reclassified FRS to 22 channels, and any radios that was under 2watts on 1-7+15-22, didn't have a removable antenna, or couldn't access repeaters channels as FRS only radios. If they go over 2watts, have a removable antenna, or can access repeaters, they're classified as GMRS only radio, and must have a license, even on 8-14.
Thank you for these tutorials. I really appreciate them! I’m new to GRMS and am going to order this radio. Could you please do a tutorial with this radio showing how to connect to a repeater?
Yeah I could do something like that for sure. Give me a bit of time and I'll see what I can do. Thanks for the comment and good luck. You'll like this radio for gmrs for sure. Do you have repeaters in your area?
@@timothypaxson2976 wow. That's pretty cool. Some places don't have anything. I currently have two I can hit from my house with an ht that have good coverage. So not too bad. Ham radio there are at least a dozen I can access.
Does anyone have a hack to make the "descrambler" also encode and decode scrambling? Yeah, I know about the legalities, but in WROL situation, such could be helpful.
I have a KG-935G and a nearby repeater is showing the following: Freq 462.550, Input & Output tone is 141.3. Don’t I simply put my radio on GMRSr15 channel 23 and then hit MENU and change the TX-CTCSS and RX-CTCSS to 141.3 hit Menu to save and it should be accessing the repeater? Or am I missing a step? Believe me, I’m new to this and Ive read the manual. I did a Repeater Check and don’t hear anything. Yes, the owner of the repeater has given me permission to use the repeater and its less than a mile from my house
Don't forget the .500 offset. You should be transmitting the tone on the offset frequency. Yes it's a bit confusing. But it sounds like that might be the issue. If you hit the to transmit and it says the same frequency as the repeater then the off set isn't set properly. You transmit on the offset and receive on the 462.550
I'm not sure if that's possible but I also have the Wouxun uv8h which is the same radio only set up for amateur use. But I'm not sure if the 935g can be wide banded.
