I am a 73 year old woman, not a rap fan, but this young man is, indeed, a GENIUS!!

I've watched his video 100 times,and 100 reactions,,and EVERY time,by the end,I have tears in my eyes and I'm literally breathless.....

I love watching people's jaws hit the floor before they ask, "whoa! What is this?!?!?!" It takes no time for people to see how amazing this is. And people who realize it's live are even more affected.

I have been binge-watching reaction videos on Hi Ren for the last two weeks and I can't seem to stop. Watching people's reactions to this Message which I can not explain other than the Truth. I find myself in tears every time I see when someone 'gets' the Message. It is the entire Gospel of Christ in one song. First, we just sing along, then the inner battle, then Satan reveals himself and then Christ comes and Stands up in authority over us and claims us to be redeemed. Our Saviour and Eternal Hope. And finally, it is ok. Because we have been made to be trailed and tested, we are human. Revelation 3:20 "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me."

I'm sure someone else has answered, but, yes, the video was recorded live. Samuel Perry-Falvey, the cinematographer has said they did 4 takes, with 2 of them in use for the video; one for the fixed cams and the other for the shots with the handheld. I'm fairly certain the audio is from the fixed-cam take.

He has a lyme desise that was undiognosed almost 10 years , 5 years bedriddend.

He is LIVE..he has a mic on his collar and his guitar is plugged into a wireless power behind his back... the trilogy I recommended below is also LIVE..MANY clues that show you he is...the acoustics change as he goes from a large space to small spaces...

You MUST react to his Trilogy the Tale of Jenny and Screech.. (FULL)..with the 3rd being Violets Tale..which MUST be seen in sequence... It was like watching a movie....deserves an award.

Great reaction. I only recently learned about Ren and have gone down this rabbit hole ever since. Many of the subjects, experiences, and emotions expressed in his songs touch me on a very personal level because I can relate to and identify with many of his struggles. A little background on Ren that I gathered from the internet. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, he began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue. His illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours a day. Ren was initially diagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome. It would take seven years before he was finally correctly diagnosed with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and brain damage. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. He is currently in Canada for more treatments. Ren is an incredible and unique artist; he plays multiple instruments, has great vocal ability, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. From what I read, his videos are generally shot live, all in one take by his friend. I recommend you check out some of his other work. The trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" is haunting and has an unexpected ending; WATCH THEM IN THE STATED ORDER, as this is the flow of the storyline or just watch “The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Full)” which includes “Violet’s Tale at the end. It is another example of Ren’s genius and a master’s class in storytelling. Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice while addressing mental health. I would watch the official live music video. "Chalk Outlines" is one of my favorite songs right now. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation. As a solo act, Ren performs a range of genres, much of it hip-hop/rap influenced, as well as guitar-based ballads. His performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling”), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”) and any of his performances as a member of the band "The Big Push" (which unfortunately broke up) are awesome and well worth checking out, both the busking (street performances) and their live recordings. Ren has impressive vocal and instrumental skills. He is one-of-a-kind and appears mature beyond his years. Ren just released his latest single, “Sick Boi.” In anticipation of his stay in Canada for more treatments, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next 3-6 months that he expects to be gone. "Sick Boi" is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren."

As best as I can tell this was recorded in one take and he had several cameras recording from different angles and the changes of camera angle are done in editing when they put it all together.

...the brighter the light, the darker the shadow it casts. ...you can't recognize light without the darkness. ...pendulum, eternal dance... ...suffering and joy... ...yin and yang... I don't know if Ren knows it but that last spoken word section embodied some of the core concepts of Buddhism. Plenty of Westerners have come to these truths of their own accord, it doesn't take a religion or even being exposed to eastern culture to come to this realization. And there are even fewer who are able to translate that wisdom to a Western audience. Alan Watts was one such person, but he made it very clear that this is what he is doing. I am not even sure Ren knows this is what he is doing. Perhaps. But I assure you, after watching easily over 70 reactions to this piece of music and theater, almost everybody instantly understands it, but nobody seems to know it is a wisdom thousands of years old.

great reaction. Mephistopheles does show up in Faust. But the word and concept is much older than that. It's a Greek word for 'Satan'.. it's literal meaning is 'Lord of the Flies' (yes, Goldman's 'Lord of the Flies' novel relies up this foreshadowing. Oh, and in dramatic section in the middle of Ren's song here, at the end before he goes to the quiet part, the dissonant chords he's playing is a chromatic ascending of flatted 5th chords... also known as the 'Devil's Triad'. All of the construction of the song is purposeful on Ren's part. He has levels upon levels.

I’ve never seen your channel before but im deff a sub now. Hope I’m not mistaken here but you sound British. As an American I just want to say you Brit’s don’t get nearly enough credit for your accomplishments. If we even try to quantify the amount of talent, inventions, scientist, discoveries ect that have come out of a tiny island in the northwest of Europe. It’s actually mind boggling. Shakespeare, dickens, sir Isaac newton, Charles Darwin, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, Elton John. Amazing.

I know you’ve already done the trilogy where he showcases his abilities as a modern day bard, but if you want to hear more of his singing I recommend Chalk Outlines (live) with Chinchilla, and to see his rap skills on display The Hunger and Losing It are brilliant choices. I’m pretty sure Ren can just master anything he puts his mind to. He is something else. Not sure we deserve him, but we certainly need him in this world.

Evil Ren has the light behind him so his face is in the dark, the light flicker when he speaks and he strums his guitar more aggressively. Ren himself has the light in front of him brightening him, lights don't flicker and guitar strumming is smooth and low.

The yodeling or whatever it is at the start - I took it as only when he managed his demons, was he able to sing as loudly and as clearly, as he does in the end. This thing is just full of depth and metaphors and meaning. It's like peeling an onion back as you hear it more. What do we even label this as, other than Ren? It's not a new music genre, it's a new entertainment medium.

Been watching Ren for years. Look at his older stuff like "Ren Gill - Amazing performance". He had mad skills 10 years ago and beyond!

I too know that demon 'mental'. Much easier when the dance is slow, and I learned to dance to the flow. Ren, touches us with truth.

It's multiple takes,, from multiple run throughs and what appear to be a few fixes after they looked at what they had, but done with such skill in both direction and editing he only impresses me more. Every aspect has been crafted to near perfect imperfection. A masterpiece.
