Love this guy and now I am hearing on the radio a fabulous holiday song by him, "Driving Home for Christmas". Anyone else heard this sweet song??????????
OMG! The bass player is so blessed his timing and feel and so melodic. He is a freak I have played bass for 57 years and this may be the best work I have ever heard.
Agreed ! The bass was top notch !! All the instruments , the arrangements , the vocal , everything, just everything was put together PERFECTLY !!!! This is 2024 . What a timeless song 👍
When I was in junior high school, I heard about our high school's queen who dated the football star When he broke up with her, she did commit suicide, so never underestimate emotions. Great song.
Heard this song all the time on am radio, I realize am never did this song justice. The background orchestal parts, the bass! I always knew this was just a well written song and Chris Rea voice is magnificant, but this sounds great listening through headphones.
I used to be a big fan in the mid-eighties. From his debut album, Fool........ He didn't have full creative power and his producer Gus who's dead now clashed a bit on various things especially how he was perceived. Whatever happened to Benny Santini is one of many good albums and I still listen to him today on u tube. I have kept all his LPs, singles, tape cassettes and CDs. He is an amazing singer and songwriter. His voice is so distinctive you recognise it straightaway. Hope his health has improved as he hasn't been well recently. I wish him all the best for 2024.
Love this! I can see how much this gentleman was getting into the song! Lol. What great music we had back then,I miss it and eats will,I was only 8 when it came out,and I'm 55 now,man how times flies! Such wonderful great time to be alive, and now all we have is this awful music now and evil in the world. Thank goodness for Jesus second coming!
Neal! I have always loved this song! It sounds just as great as it did back in the day❤. Thanks so much for bringing it back. Harri nails it with his description. I love it. 🎄🎁🎄
Late comment. I hope you noticed when he was singing about his sister's pain , his voice lowered. But when he sang about telling her life wasn't over his voice was louder
I just love this song. ❤❤The look on his face is the same look I have whenever I hear this - it’s so lush. My favourite song since i was about 6 years old.
Chris Rea is close to my favorite artist of the past 50 years. His voice, songwriting and sensational guitar work is legendary in THe Uk and Europe...he is so famous in Russia and has a big following in my own Australia. I'd go for something like Warm and Tender Love, Texas, On The Beach, Diamonds and Loving You Again...he has been an unknown star in the US for decades.
This is one of his first hits. You might enjoy Chris Rea - This singer / songwriter crosses many venues and is exceptionally talented. Has written an entire History of the Blues 10 albums. While he has 100 hit songs I am particularly fond of his album entitled "Auberge" couple good songs "Your not a number" " "Every Second Counts" also someone mentioned a song "Road to Hell" that is a areal gem.
I had pleasure of signing Chris to his first American contract. He's a specially talented musician who is a star in Europe. Check out his guitar playing on Auberge.
PnCombies, I had this on my list for January. Well, I will strike that one off. Such a great pick my friend and so glad you suggested it. Love the song. Just beautiful. Harri's reaction is spot on. 👍👍👍
Imadrummin - Dude, Harri messaged me two weeks into the month to tell me that he knew three of my four selections. Damn, I was like..."WTF?" So, I fired three more requests his way and he knew one those. Fool (If You Think It's Over) was on a playlist I created for potential requests. It was just a roll of the dice. I love this song; it's gold! Thanks as always for your kind words. BTW, great minds, brother. Stay classy - you have great taste, man. Merry Christmas!
In the Summer of 1978 this song was big in the US-then we didn't hear from him for awhile-which is a shame-I had the album which was quite good-too bad the US didn't take to him afterwards like other countries.
This is one of my favorite songs! Love his voice! It's on my driving play list to sing along to! I love your reactions to songs and learning more info from the UK side. Keep em coming! Enjoy your Holiday with your friends and family! Looking forward to 2023 and future reactions!
I’ve always loved the mellow quality this song has. Something so soothing about his voice. And yes the swell of the string instruments at the end is, if I can steal Harri’s line… “diamonds in my ears “ ( I love that saying btw ;)
I can see my parents do an old school dance called the CHA CHA CHA. The rythym of this beautiful song is perfect for that dance. Ready.. 1, 2 CHA CHA CHA; 3,4 CHA CHA CHA. Great rythym to this tune.
Thank you so much for your very insightful and authentic approach to evaluating all of these incredible songs. I was really touched by your reaction when you realized that it was G. Harrison who sang My Sweet Lord when you was younger. Love so many of the songs you play on here. Keep up the great work. Don
This sound is classic '70s: a little bit R&B, a little bit jazz, just a little bit of everything. Fun fact: Rod Argent (The Zombies, Argent) played on two tracks from the album on which this track appeared (but not this track).
Loved this song from the first moment, but listened more to the also successful cover version by Elkie Brooks in 1982. And it was right, that Chris once wrote that song for his younger sister. I basically love all stuff Chris Rea wrote and played, liked him.
Oh yes Harri. You chose a great one here. Also, Elkie Brooks made an excellent cover of this song. Worth a look. And, she has made lots of other good songs, including Lilac Wine, and, with Vinegar Joe, "Proud To Be A Honky Woman", with Robert Palmer.
This is again proof why no decade equals the 70s for melodies, singers and lyrics. My parents would call this CHA CHA CHA music.....ready...1,2 cha cha cha......3, 4 cha cha cha!!!!!!
Harrri thats what I love so much about you is that you know the History of many of these Great Fantastic Ground Breaking songs. I have listenend to this song Litterally for Decades but Never knew the History behind it and now after watching you video reaction the lyrics and the song, and motive which is so important but often overlooked in music has been revealed and now makes so much sense. God Bless Harri form your Tx 🤠 Soul Brother from Across the Pond.
Chris Rea is locked in an eternal battle in my mind with Elton John, over which is the best songwriter. Sometimes, because he writes his own lyrics, Chris lands a good blow. Then Elton hits back with 'Love Lies Bleeding'. But Chris writes on guitar, Elton on piano, it's kind of apples and oranges. If you don't know it, listen to 'On The Beach'. It's 'pop' Chris like this one, but no one captures the lazy lustfulness of a hot sandy holiday quite like Chris Rea. The first three songs on the 'On the Beach' album just transport me to another world.
Hi Harri, Glad that you picked up on the soul vibe of this tune as Chris has stared that although he wrote it following his sisters break up he wrote it with Al Green in mind.
Such a beautiful song released in 1978. Written for his sister Paula who had recently lost her first love. Chris was awarded a Grammy in 1979 for Best New Artist. This song is beautifully written, with a amazing sax, and powerful lyrics. Just a winner. Great reaction. Thanks Harri. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Harri hope all is well with you. I enjoy your reactions and your non critical take on the songs you listen too. You appreciate good music and all those talented artists especially from the 1970's. Keep up the great work! Cheers from East Tennessee.
