But Ali (a.s) is seen as a respectable Sahabi in Sunni Islam and in Shiism he's seen as the successor of the Prophet, because that's what the Prophet literally clarified at the event of Ghadeer Khumm. The sunni interpretation doesn't make sense from a logical perspective, because it was an undeniable fact that Ali (a.s) was a respectable Sahabi, so gathering all these people in a desert just to announce, that he is just a friend is ridiculous. "Maula" in this context therefore means "Master".

Shia muslim here. I have to clarify a few things. First of all, Shia dont believe that the 12 Imams hold supernatural powers. You might have heard some shia "sheikhs" say some stupid things that are basically kufr, but generally the absolute majority of scholars and shia believers don't hold such views. We follow the Quran first and foremost, and we take our intrepretation of Islam by the Imams who we believe were passed down the correct teachings of Islam step by step up to Ali who were taught by Prophet Mohammed And to be noted, this is what Prophet Mohammed said to Ali, "You are to me like Aaron was to Moses except that there shall be no prophets after me." (al-Bukhari, his Sahih, part 5, page 24) That statement alone pretty much shows that Prophet Mohammed and Allah held Ali in the highest of highest regards above all other companions. And yes, I also say Allah because the prophet would never give such an example if Allah didnt agree, and everyone here should know who Aaron were in Islam. So basically yes, the split were political indeed, but when we know that Ali were held in such a high regard above everyone else so of course we follow ahly bayt and their narration of what Islam is, what prophet Mohammed said and did etc. We dont follow "al jamahah" the companions (though we hold them in high regard) because they were not the Aaron to Prophet Mohammed, Ali were, and Ali passed down prophet Mohammed and Islam teachings to his sons and the prophets house hold. Thats basically it.

Prophet Mohammed peace be upon him is a descendant of prophet Ishmael both lived by the mountains of Faran in the Arabian peninsula. So the 12 princes from Ishmael are the same 12 Imams the chosen descendants from the bloodline of prophet Mohammed peace be upon them. If you keep researching you will become Shia.
Unfortunately due to specific Shia-exclusive practices, westerners and many other non-muslims think that otherwise non-islamic elements like Nikah mut'ah (pleasure marriage) and Taqiyya ( lying/deceit on whim against non-muslims) are Sunni practices too, which they are not at all.

It’s not true, Shias are as Muslim as Sunni. By definition As long as one believes in one god and the prophet Muhammed as a last prophet the person is Muslim. Shia Sunni division was of political nature.
Shias are muslims, and its very unfair to call them kafir, when they worship Allah and follow quran. They follow 12 islamic scholars ,all grand sons of prophet muhammed (pbuh) , what is the problem with that? I think before spreading false information and calling millions of muslim brothers and sisters kafir you have to go and read books from both sides. To say that Shia are not muslim is very difficult, especially since there are at least 20 different sect inside Shias, not all Shia believe in the same things like not all believe in the 12 Imams. Some sects even worship Ali but again it's inaccurate to generalize about all Shia and call them Kafir. Sunni scholars have this opinion so it's not my own claim. I can even say even Sunni Islam there are many different sects too (Sufism for example) that have Bidaa (inventions in Islam) too and some leading to Kufr like what Some Sufis do when they worship their Sheikh. Our position in Sunnism is that we acknowledge that Ali and Hussein suffered from injustice from Muawiyah and his son but still we respect both sides and worship God only just like Prophet Mohammad did. It's good to know the story to learn who was right and who was wrong but that's it, these events have happened 1400 years ago and we have no benefit to argue about what happened to them, we want to unite the Ummah not to divide it. Sunni and Shia agree on the basics, if Shia were Kafir the Sunni would ban them from Pilgrimage (Hajj) because Kafirs are not allowed in Mecca. This is where we should apply tolerence and acceptance of others because of differences. A muslim remains a muslim until proven otherwise. there is nothing wrong about proclaiming others as Kafir (if done correctly) but Khawarij love to label anyone who doesn't agree with them as Kafir just like when they proclaimed Ali as Kafir. I am Palestinian and Czech Shi'i, btw. I invite all Europeans to Islam and Shi'a Islam is not expansionist and would have invited Europe more effectively and not militaristically like the Turks who scared Europe away from the religion. This was Allah's will but the future is with Iran and its allies. The Prophet(sawas) was an Arab and he stated that the Persians will have the Greatest Share in Islam. This means that their Islam will have the greatest impact and this is not by numbers it is by quality and Shi'a has a spiritual quality that has been lost to Saudi influenced modern Sunni Salafism. The Family of the Prophet and love for them purify the religion without needing to nitpick at details as the spirit of the Prophet remained with them.

I m Muslim from Bangladesh. Islam came here in Bengal in 13th century. If i would born in prophet Muhammad (sw)'s time i would definitely fought in side of Ali(ra) and imam Hussain. I love them as well i love 4 Caliphs. I love all Muslims irrespective of sects because main fundemantal is "There is no God but one God Allah and prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is his final messenger". The best book I read on this issue was "The Heirs of the Prophet Muhammad and Roots of the Sunni-Shia Schism" by Barnaby Rogerson. He is very respectful to Islam and explores the issues from both authentic Sunni and Shia sources. Politically I would identify with Shia people and fight for Hussein RA. However, theologically, Sunni Islam makes more sense to me. Shia theology gave too much weight to the imams that most of them claim the imams are needed for intercession, which to me is very similar to praying to Jesus instead of the "Father". I have said for 10 years almost that my heart is Sunni but I have huge soft spot for early struggles of Prophet Muhammad's family. It's after reading that book I softened my stance on Shia people. Historically they were considered Muslims. All the early scholars allowed them to attend Hajj.

@jantheslovakmuslim I agree. Shia of the ancient past followed identical theological beliefs to the sunnis. The difference was just political. The current Shia sects are more problematic in regards to their theology and a lot of their beliefs are alien to Islam in general. However the only current group closer to sunnis are the zaydis in Yemen. The modern shias make accusations against prophet's companion umair of breaking Ali's door. They have no evidence and the chain of narrations are either very weak or forged.
@@jantheslovakmuslim When I said "politically", I meant that if I lived in 680CE, I would have had my full support behind Hussain (RA). I would have supported him financially, spiritually, etc as a random civilian, and would be outraged if he were murdered. But spiritually (my faith, understanding of God) would similar to the Oneness of God now with direct connection through prayer. One thing I will say however is that I do not accept modern Saudis saying Shias are not Muslim. Every Caliph (Umayyads, Abbassids, Ottomans) and scholar from the beginning of time allowed Shia to attend and perform Hajj which is for Muslims only. I don't think it's fair to compare with them with Ahmadiyyas who clearly claim there is a new prophet 200 years ago.

As a Shia, I have to clarify a few things. Ali was chosen because he was wiser and more knowledgeable than the others. Being older doesn’t automatically give you more privilege. Imam Ali protected the Prophet(saws) and even covered for him when others were trying to kill our prophet. Imam Ali was willing to sacrifice his life for our Prophet(saws). Abu Baker and Omar only accepted Islam when they had no other choice but to convert. They were terrible people who harmed the Prophet’s only daughter. There is a hadith, even in the Sunni books where the Prophet(saws) stated, “Fatima is a part of me. Whoever harms her, harms me.” There is another Hadith in the Sunni books as well that Fatima was upset with Abu Baker and refused to see him before she died. Why would the Prophet(saws) choose a successor that would harm his daughter? There could gave been no other rightful successor accept Imam Ali(a.s)

Note that during the Shia dynasties like the Fatimids, most of the population was still Sunni. Even if they promoted Shiism to some extent, the populations remained Sunni. A notable exception is the late Safavid in current Iran who converted the population with coercion. Their goal was to make a political entity to rival the Sunni ottomans and therefore it was important for them to create a different "religious identity". And that's basically how we get modern Iran.

There is Maula Ali AS brother of our beloved Prophet, husband of the women leader in paradise. Father of the youth leader in heaven, the mountain of knowledge n there is muaviya on the other side, who used to make imams of masjids to curse upon Ali from the pulpit through wrong n makeup Hadith. There are Shia reverts too- some were sunni for a few years n then upon further research became Shias. Btw to lead, age is not a factor nor people’s choice- its divine appointment as people need to be lead in spiritual n religious matters that needs divine appointment inspiration n guidance.

As a shia myself I noticed this pattern of misunderstanding among reverts and even our Sunni brothers about Tawheed in Shia ideology , Quran Tell Us martyrs are always Alive Quran 2:154 states: “Do not say regarding those who are slain in the path of God that they are dead; rather they are alive but you are not aware.” Quran 3:169 states: “Do not consider as dead those who are slain in the path of God; rather they are alive and well-provided for in the presence of their Lord.” And The 12 Imams in Shia ideology all got assassinated by the enemies of Islam (Except for Imam Mahdi who will Return with christ) so basically asking Them them to pray to Allah for us (In the shrine of imam Hussain or imam Ali ) is basically the same as Asking a brother in Mosque who sat next to Us to pray for us Because the martyrs in the path of Allah are alive according to Quran And Of course asking a Highly respected brother in faith who's a part of Prophet's family and is not dead according to Quran is not a shirk because That's almost what all Muslims do every year in the holy month of Ramadan, Asking other Muslims for prayers to Allah for them

After the death of the Holy Prophet (pbuh&f), people belonging to the Ansar (helpers) gathered at a place called Saqifa to elect a leader. It is not clear as to what that leader was for as Ansar by themselves couldn’t have elected a caliph as the Muhajireen (migrant) would have never agreed to such an outcome. Umar was informed of this meeting and he immediately went to the house of the Prophet where the Prophet’s body was being prepared for the burial. He called out Abu Bakr and together, they took Abu Obaida with them. Who gave them the authority to attend this meeting on behalf of Muslims? After all, at that time, they were just like any other member of the community. And how is it that they did not take anyone else into their “confidence” except Abu Obaida as if they were on a secret mission?It so happened that the Ansar composed of 2 tribes (Aus and the Khazraj) who used to be at each other’s throat before the advent of Islam. And Umar used this to his advantage along with playing the Quraysh tribe card to then gather the votes in favour of Abu Bakr. As it is clear from the history of Saqifa, there was no mention of any Quranic verses or Prophet’s narrations used to justify this event. It was purely a political one where a group of 3 people belonging to Muhajireen (and in no way representing them) decided to take the decision upon themselves to appoint a caliph. So, to conclude, Abu Bakr just manipulated the situation to his advantage to become the Caliph. All this, while the body of the Holy Prophet (pbuh&f) was being prepared for burial.

The Messenger and Quran comes first after Allah for both parties of Islam. We Shias just rather side with the messengers interpretation of Quran. Slandering the messenger’s companions, righteous or not is an act that the messenger did not preach. I despise it when my Shia people does it but violence will not teach them in the best way. I totally agree with your sentiment about the analogy of Christianity and Shiism where they centered around a powerful theme to attract people emotionally. With Christianity is the theme of sacrifice and with Shiism is the theme of Injustice/Tyranny. I totally get what happened in Karbala is horrible and evil and no doubt these "Muslims" perpetrator will be judged accordingly in Akhirah. But I don't think its worth to modify the core Theology. I think in Shiism, the pillar of Islam has another point which is Imamat. But, I have to say that we can't say Shia Muslims are not Muslims. And they are also allowed to do Hajj since the beginning of the movement until now. I see it as a branching political sect with different jurisprudence. With Ahmadiyya its different because the core theology is the pretty similar I think, but the change the eschatology in big way. They don't believe in Jesus as Messiah, because they believe the the founder of the movement is the incarnation of that (and not actually a prophet), which is vastly different than mainstream SunShiaeschatology. There are differences as well, but that's the major difference. And personally see follower Ahmadiyya as misguided Muslims.

As to what happened after the battle of Karbala, with the start of the ummayad caliphate and all the caliphate that came after, they slaughtered Shia Muslims in the thousands, whole towns were decimated, all over the globe, it was so easy to come up with decrees considering Shia Muslims and rival Sunni dynasties as kaffirs thus making their blood permissible to spill, Shia Muslims were sold as slaves to Non-Muslim empires, the Shia of China for example, they burned Shia libraries and books, they executed Shia scholars for pity stuff, and the most important part is, their attacks on Prophet Mohammad Grandsons never ceased after the Battle of Karbala, they became worse, the ummayads and the abbasids are attributed to the killing of the majority of Prophet Mohammad Grandsons, after the Battle of karbala, were all exiled, to the furthest reaches of the empires, to people that do not understand Arabic, which explains why there are shrines for them all the way to China, and when they failed to silence them, they murdered them, go look what killed all the 12 Imams of the Shia, all of them were poisoned. BUt things did not end here, despite Shia Muslims fending off against the crusaders and even the mongols, you had Sunni scholars lie and conjure claims such as Shia Muslims helped the crusaders, Shia Muslims helped the mongols, creating excuse to spill the blood of Shia, Shia Muslims had to endure Crusader, Mongol and Sunni Muslims persecution. Apart from the biddahs created by shias in shia sect, their political stance against muawaiya and yazid was correct. Ali tried to punish Uthman's murderers but it wasn't clear who did it. Secondly, Muawiya rebelled against a rashidun caliph which was itself an act of kufr, finally the killing of Imam Hussain and Hassan (by poison) was simply outrageous. They were the red line of literally all muslims back then, be it sunni or shia. Also, every single member of the Ahl Al Bait was killed by some way after Karbala too so all decendents of Muhammad PBUH were killed upto the 11th imam who left no male decendents..

Bro Jan, first of all Alhamdulellah you are a muslim now. But since you say that it involved a lot of research before you embraced Islam, you also need the same before you judge Shiasm. I advise you to read the history of Islam especially the " Fitnah" period in the aftermath of the prophet PBUH. There is well written book called ‘After the Prophet’ written by Leslie Hazelton a secular Jew on the origins of the Sunni Shia split so she in theory has no ‘axe to grind’. The book seems more sympathetic to the Shia narrative. I do agree the Shia position is inconsistent at times but I don’t believe anyone should call them ‘Kafir’ or ‘non-Moslem’. They do over emphasise certain aspects regarding the family of the Prophet (Pbuh) but many Sunnis often skirt over the problematic issues that arise so soon after the demise of the Prophet (PBUH) (such as the tragedy of Kerbala). Some self-reflection is needed on both sides I think.

This might come harsh but I do believe it was Ali's place to lead after Omar, not Othman. When you read the Prophet's life (PBUH), Ali was with him at every stage. Ali is the first boy who became Muslim. He was like a brother to the Prophet. No matter how virtuous Othman was, it was Ali who should have been the caliph. After Othman I really can not believe how Muʿāwiya ibn Abī Sufyān thought he could precede Ali!? I just can not wrap my head around it. What Shia do not understand is that some Sunnis like myself hate Muʿāwiya and his descendants as much as they do. Abī Sufyān's son caused a political divide that would last for centuries and drive many people away from tawheed therefore practically putting them outside the fold of Islam.
You may have not heard that there are many hadiths which tell the story of Ali being betrayed after the prophet by those fake caliphs pretending to protect islam, Ali bin abu Talib was appointed by the prophet according the very trusted hadith u shared in the vid 5:00 where the prophet appointed Ali as his successor in front of thousands of people, only to be very few people showing up at Ali’s house after the prophet’s death. As a shia myself I noticed this pattern of misunderstanding among reverts and even our Sunni brothers about Tawheed in Shia ideology , Quran Tell Us martyrs are always Alive Quran 2:154 states: “Do not say regarding those who are slain in the path of God that they are dead; rather they are alive but you are not aware.” Quran 3:169 states: “Do not consider as dead those who are slain in the path of God; rather they are alive and well-provided for in the presence of their Lord.” And The 12 Imams in Shia ideology all got assassinated by the enemies of Islam (Except for Imam Mahdi who will Return with Jesus) so basically asking Them them to pray to Allah for us (In the shrine of imam Hussain or imam Ali ) is basically the same as Asking a brother in Mosque who sat next to Us to pray for us Because the martyrs in the path of Allah are alive according to Quran And Of course asking a Highly respected brother in faith who's a part of Prophet's family and is not dead according to Quran is not a shirk because That's almost what all Muslims do every year in the holy month of Ramadan, Asking other Muslims for prayers to Allah for them
