clay plasterer here: There was one short clip in which the clay board was stacked tight under the ceiling beam. I would recommend leaving some room there. the whole house will be moving (arbeiten) especially since you will add a lot more weight upstairs. it might lead to cracks and falling off of your finish (Feinputz). just something to consider. aside from that i really enjoy seeing you so hyped about natural materials!!

Germans are always SO far ahead on things like this ! I remember back in 1978 talking to 2 young Germans on a flight. They were talking about their "Green Party" & sustainability. All these years later and the USA is lagging behind on this, in my opinion. And for those who disagree, all I have to say is "bottled water". Instead of buying gallons, or a filter for your tap water, and bringing a drink holder, many folks buy CASES of 8 Oz. water bottles. I'm sure many don't make it to the recycling stream.

I wish we did more stuff like this in the US. So much building material goes straight to the landfill, whether it’s from demo or somebody screwing up the new stuff. Too many builders here say “Not my problem” when it may only take a little bit of effort to reuse or recycle materials. I would love to see some Japanese-style burnished walls when you are done. Can you do that with the clay instead of using plaster?

Nice, the big benefit that your house being so old can now breathe well. I suspect a nice lime plaster and maybe a mesh will finish the job? Sand and cement is good, but your old house wasn't designed for it, so everything you are doing is a positive. My house is also 120 years old, but made from stone and it suffered badly with condensation, so over the years we have made the effort to use traditional materials that allow the house to breathe and now the problems will soon be gone hopefully.
