You're absolutely correct, today it's all about "image", talent comes after that. A good example is Susan Boyle, everyone was ready to dismiss her simply for how she looked! She certainly fooled them all and so did Joe.

Joe Cocker always knew how to make a song his own and his voice is a voice unlike none other. I always felt that people judge a book by it's cover and he was one of them until he opened his mouth and that beautiful voice would bring tears to your eyes. ALWAYS LOVED JOE COCKER
I was born in 1960 so in my teen yrs we had the best 70's music and I love my 60s too but you're right in my day you had to have pure talent, nothing to help you sound better no equipment to cover up what you really sound like. If they had talent it didn't matter what they looked like as you'll see in alot of videos back then but today if you're not pretty, skinny, buff or even have a huge butt forget it. I really miss my youth when we had great music, leave home in the morning and come home when the street lights came on and everyone kept an eye out for each other.

I was 14 when this aired on the radio. There was no MTV or anything like that. You heard it first on the radio. Then you bought the record. The 70s music was so good , we took it for granted I guess. Only realized that years later when the music from 80s hit.When he recorded this song and his voice broke at the end , it was so good, they left it like that. I'm 62 now and it does my heart good to see you love this music.

That's a shame. I hope that changes about videos being blocked. At my church last year, they played this song as they showed images on the screen of church members or their family members who had died during the year. I rarely cry, but I had tears streaming down my face the entire time. This song was a perfect memorial to commemorate people who had passed on.
Joe was from my home city, Sheffield. He was a gas fitter who never lost his roots. Yes, he had his demons, but he always gave everything in every performance. He never sought fame, just to sing anf live the music. None better, ever.
