This is fucking disgusting. If any of you guys wanna get angry at something, get fucking angry at those three security officers and United airline. The man paid for a flight, instead he got his head slammed into an armrest, he was bleeding profusely, and he got dragged fucking limp out of the aircraft. Let me reiterate for those of you who don't get it. THEY TOOK HIS MONEY, THEY HURT AND INJURED HIM HEAVILY, DISRESPECTED HIS HUMAN DIGNITY. This is no fucking different from a mugging. The man wasn't a criminal, he wasn't being belligerent, he was not resisting arrest or anything of the sort. They ripped him out his goddamn seat for fuck's sake. I cannot believe people in these comments are even excusing the people responsible and blaming the victim because he did not want to VOLUNTARILY leave a flight THAT HE PAID FOR.
@Egg944
@Egg944 7 лет назад
TheOriginalFayari Except he did do something wrong. He is on private property. Imagine I owned a restaurant. Some guy came in and bought a coffee. Then I just decide I don't want him here. That completely my decision, and if he doesn't follow, he is now trespassing and refusing to leave. The only option I would have is to remove him by force. Could it have been handled better? Of course! But it didn't, and ultimately, that man was trespassing and force was necessary.
@RonOnTheWay

I decided not to fly United ever again about 3 years ago. Was flying with my wife to Houston, went to check in, the lady grabs our passports and calls security. This other lady shows up and walks away with our passports, then doesn´t return for another 2 hours; they wouldn´t let us fly and did not give our money back either. At no point did anyone from United give us any explanation whatsoever about what was happening. they even escorted us out of the airport and kept copies of our passports. Never in our lives have he had any criminal history or anything like that, we travel a lot and have never ever had anything like this happen before. My wife is an architect and I´m a port pilot. All uinited personnel were complete a**holes. never again.

@2299mikey
@2299mikey 7 лет назад
tilerh17 you realize United wasn't the one that did anything wrong. If you want to claim someone did something wrong it's the police. United has the right to deny service to anyone and they provide compensation. If the pussy would've just got off the plane he would've had no issues
@Daniel_Robinson
@Daniel_Robinson 7 лет назад
What do "they deserve for that" exactly?
@annabillie5944
@annabillie5944 7 лет назад
2299mikey Their policy states that overbooking is dealt with by refusing to allow passengers to board the plane, he has already boarded the plane. Their policy was already void and they went on to randomly select people and throw them off the flight to accommodate staff. They have no right to do that.
@aprilblenk
@aprilblenk 7 лет назад
He paid for the ticket, he got on the aeroplane, he had a very important reason for getting home and those security guards were far too violent. I don't care if he resisted and they have "the right" to deny service, they did a terrible job of handling that situation involving a paying customer and there is no getting around that.

Don't get into law. You won't do well. United wasn't responsible for that injury. The airport police was. Also, generally speaking, when a cop tells you to do something, you kinda have to do it because a lawyer can easily argue that he was resisting an officer, which he was. Was the situation fucked up? Yes. But at the end of the day, he did resist POLICE officers which actually gives cops legal rights to use force. What happened to him after they were involved is purely on him. I get that this is an emotional trigger for many, but in what world did that man think he was gonna win that fight? He shoulda stepped off and then dealt with the company like a normal person instead of throwing a fit. Worst case scenario, he coulda sued them.

Huge Mistake by United and they should be seriously reprimanded for this. Per contract of a Carriage: Rule5G States that United has the right to overbook. It also states that in the event of overbooking, Rule 25 Governs What will happen. Rule25 Concerns itself with Denial of Boarding. The Problem here is that United already let the passengers board. Once they have boarded, United has no right to deny them flight unless they are a security concern. United cannot just turn around and change their mind about boarding. Their own rules do not support that!

Overbooking should be illegal. Airlines should have to pay reduculous fees to passengers for overbooking; $10,000 or more. What happens when you miss work and get fired, or miss an important event like a funeral.
@annabillie5944
@annabillie5944 7 лет назад
jisezer From what I gather it technically wasn't overbooking, it was a problem that they hadn't reserved seats for the airlines staff to get to the airport they would be working at. So the paying customers were being severely inconvenienced because the airline made an error and put their own shifts being covered above the customers.
@johnblount9782
@johnblount9782 7 лет назад
Overbooking should be illegal?? The airlines would love for it to be illegal. Because.... Airlines don't want overbooking and passengers do. WHY? Because airlines would much rather sell you a seat and have you own it (like a seat at a concert or sporting event). You own it and they get the $$$ whether you show up or not. With the "you own it" system all the passengers could no-show and the airline would lose zero money on fuel, crew salaries and revenue. Passengers could scalp their tickets in front of the airport if they were unable to fly that day. Unfortunately Passengers demand flexibility. They want to be able to change the days, times and destinations of their flights, so in order to accommodate passenger flexibility airlines overbook to insure they do not lose money on the empty seats created by people who don't show up or change their plans. The airlines grew tired of overbooking complaints in the '90's and briefly tried the "you own your seat" concept and it failed. Passengers complained even louder about lack of options. So here we are stuck with overbooking until somebody comes up with a better solution.
@Nokaru11

You sir are an idiot. Overbooking should be illegal, how dumb does this sound. It's a bushiness and shit happens. So what if you order food at a restaurant and 15 mins later say "Ohhh...I'm sorry we sold out?" should that be illegal. Uhhh...no that is stupid. How is United liable, it was the cops. Not the United Airlines Police Department.
@dparker12997
@dparker12997 7 лет назад
Not advocating for it but overbooking makes sense as a buisiness move because on average 15% of most tickets don't show so if they can fill the plane 100% and get 115% of the money then great.

I wonder if he could win. I mean they can throw you off for tons of reasons and this is one but they are supposed to bounce you at the gate before you board. Happens hundreds of thousands of times a year which is why there are laws about how much they need to pay you based on the amount of time you are delayed waiting for a different flight. You also can't really legally refuse to leave a plane when they tell you too. Then when law enforcement shows up and asks you to leave again you start breaking federal and state laws. Maybe the lip cut but even then security didn't really break any laws... I guess they didn't follow policy they were supposed to remove passengers around the guy before dragging him out. They already asked for volunteers and everybody refused. Then I guess they need to go random like they did. If they allow him to say no and go through passengers till they force somebody else they could get a discrimination lawsuit. Kinda interesting that everybody sat there as he constantly refused but nobody offered to get off instead of him.

*a birnbaum* Again, an airline that's been going for almost a century should have overbooking under control by now. ESPECIALLY when there are employees involved-because it's not like they don't know when their employees have to be at work. And it's not about losing money (if that's what you're referring to). Because the point is, no customer should ever be physically harmed just for giving them business. Especially when their trip home is important too. I can't even imagine the psychological trauma I'd go through if that happened to me

It's odd to me that people don't have enough foresight to see that the DEADHEADING (not standby) crew not getting on that flight would fuck over and even larger number of paying passengers. It would create a domino affect of other passengers missing their flights they paid for.

You're not volunteering to get off a plane if a computer randomly selects you to get kicked off. This is why I think airlines should never overbook. Just take the damn profit hits instead of being jackasses.
@cinimodaz
@cinimodaz 7 лет назад
First of all, I am going to assume you don't own your own business. Second, of all, I am going to state this. Ever single passenger on that flight was given a chance to volunteer and offered a very good sum of vouchers and a hotel.No one volunteered and so the supervisor of the flight made an announcement to again ALL of the passengers explaining that his computer will be making the decision of who gets off then. Even if overbooking is stupid or wrong that is not the point it is a contract you sign when you buy your tickets that you agree that this could happen to you. Break the rules face the consequences. As for the immature comment of "take the damn profit hit" that goes back to my first assumption that you don't own your own business. A company can only keep its doors open and continue to pay hard workers and keep the job market flooded with jobs if they make a profit. Why not go ask your local Grocer or restaurant to only provide the highest quality product but at the lowest cost to you? This is not how business works.

This is within the terms of conditions you accept when you book a ticket with ANY airline. Or alternatively, get off the plane quietly and then take up the matter with the booking agents or ground staff to get on the next plane, get a free car or whatever. 2299mikey Nope, look at the email they sent employees which an employee posted onto twitter, the airline said the 4 members of staff came forward after the flight was already boarded and said they needed to get on it, they didn't have tickets and they turned up last minute, which is why everyone else had already boarded the flight. UA policy says they can only take someone's seat if they refuse to let them get into the plane, these people had already boarded the plane and therefore no longer policy to remove people. When a flight is overbooked, the people who show up first get the seats and those after are refused to board. Since the 4 members of staff showed up last they should have been refused. Further proof that they didn't have tickets is that they didn't remove people from the seats that matched the staffs tickets, they removed people at random because the staff never had seats to begin with.

Or as the lady said: Couldn't they rent a car for them to drive to Louisville? There. Two options that didn't result in fucking over four passengers or assaulting one. Arguing over morals is pointless, but if you had to call officers to come, then you could have called the Hertz to drive your employees.

Also, yeah, let's drag the man after he goes limp when he was obviously struggling a second ago. Instead of calling for medical help, let's move him because treating someone like a human is so much work. If someone is hurt, you don't move them... Because if he god forbid hurt himself in other ways and those injuries were made worse from being DRAGGED OFF A PLANE, what's your stance on that? Let's be logical. Talk it out, literally be an adult instead of going immediately to putting your hands on someone. His English was broken, he probably didn't fully understand the situation. Talk with him and offer him more money or an extra free flight. If he was a Doctor then use that as an excuse for not making him get off the plane. Idek man, personally if I see someone go limp or even see some blood I won't move them. You just don't know when it comes to injuries and instead of showing any humanity, they kept dragging him.

usucdik I'm not saying that it's not within their rights, it is their plane and their rules. But if it got to the point of calling Security, then the better option was to find a different flight for those employees or move on to a different person. They could have found other people and banned the man from using their airline. Charge the man with a 1000$ fine for breaking their rules. Because, to keep it short, you never know if the person you're putting hands on has a heart disease or genetic disease where their bones are brittle. If it was so time sensitive that it had to be that exact flight, time could have been better spent finding multiple other options than going to the easy option of trying to bully the man off the flight with force.

For whatever reason, United thought their employees were more important than paid customers. Literally this whole situation could have been avoided if they had redirected the crew members some other way, like buying flights tickets for them from a competitor.

I don't think you can group Pepsi with United Airlines together. Pepsi made a stupid ad and I think people got a little too mad over, its the same idea as the Coca-Cola ad from 1971 "I'd like to buy the world a Coke". United fuck up by over-booked and then kicked a man off a plane by pulling him out of his chair which threw him into a armrest without even offering the $1300 he was supposed to get.

They all do this. The only difference is most customers actually leave the plane when asked, instead of resisting. Did he think they'd just leave him in his seat if he refused to leave the plane? Ok hang the fuck on lemme get this straight. United Airlines realised they somehow gave out non existent tickets, people got angry, so they got angry, and ordered police to violently drag someone off the plane? This man claimed to have patients to tend to, WHICH IS A VERY GOOD REASON TO NEED TO STAY ON THAT PLANE, but they didn't even try asking people who were only going on holiday or something to get off, they decided to stick to their guns and drag this guy off so violently that he was possibly KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS and severely bloodied at the mouth. Isn't that fucking assault? Holy shit?? But also, they were trying to give people only $400 when I assume tickets are a lot more (please correct me there, I'm not american so idk how it works there). Was this illegal? There needs to be some sort of legal action happening here.

400 dollars in compensation and a free ride on the plane the next day as far as I've understood reading more than just Phillip Defranco. I hope when you get asked to leave a public transport for whatever reason, you comply instead of refuse so the airline is not forced to call security on you, whom then again would not use force to get you off the vehicle. Not because they are evil, but because there is no other way of dealing with a passenger who refuses to get off. Welcome to Earth. We are currently enjoying outrage culture, and we recommend you intentionally obstruct the public order to get your 15 minutes of victim fame.

@Markus Aronsen I think they do not need to get passengers off the plane if they were organized enough to realize that 4 of their employees need to get on that flight prior to boarding these people. Who are the idiots scheduling this and why did they not see it beforehand so asking passengers to give their seats be avoided? Since the root cause of this incident is UA being disorganized, they should suck it and get their employees on another UA flight, or a sister company or buy them tickets from another airline if they really have to be in Chicago for work. There was no need to manhandle the passenger because he only refused to give his sit up, he wasn't a threat. What the cops did was to support the idiots in UA who created this situation in the first place, hence they are bigger, violent idiots.

Just because someone has a felony that dosn't justify them attacking passangers. The punishment dosn't fit the crime. You can't beat someone up for not complying with the metaphorical contract you broke. This contract you sign when you pay money to get goods or a service. This practice is not acceptable in many industries. I don't buy groceries take them to my house then have the cashiers come to my house beat me up and take my groceries and say "our employes are hungry and want food now. This is okay we will give your food back soon".

strategyzer1824 I think the people who are on united sides fall into 3 categories: (1) they think this is a political issue and somehow pushing back on a corporation is "not patriotic" - the company is called United after all. One must be a liberal to not allow police to beat the shit out of a doctor trying to get home. The police can't do anything wrong in their mind (2) they want attention. They are the annoying kids in class who always takes the contrarian option bc they've read Atlas Shrugged and are suddenly enlightened (3) they didn't watch the video.

@rlbarney2 - I have looked into the things omitted here. Still arrived at the same conclusion. The only thing not mentioned is that, in the fine print, it is written that there is a policy where if no one volunteers to be reboarded to another flight, they will pick people at random to be FORCIBLY removed and reboarded. Even though there is such a policy, there shouldn't be one! United needs to learn to sell the number of tickets for NO MORE that the number of seats available. Period!

Kimber Weston recently a woman had her dog on one of their flights, since the dog weighs 80 pounds, she asked if the crate could fit on the cargo, they told her yes, they lied, the dog couldn't fit. They kept him in a kennel for 20 hours with no food or water, they gave him medication without the owner's consent, she didn't even know they they did that. The dog died soon after his arrival, his stomach flipped because of the stress. United Airlines wanted to her to sign an agreement to shut her up and they even said that the death of the dog is not their responsibility. The lady who lost the dog has a gofundme page and a petition to try and make airlines safer for pets. There were cases in which people from the airport didn't handle well crates causing bruises, fractures and even death in some dogs. And all they say is that it's not their responsibility. So now it's clear that they don't care about human and animal passengers.

First. The Airline WAS NOT overbooked. Second, removing someone from a plane after they have been boarded is ILLEGAL. It's a VIOLATION of what is called the "Right of carriage"

@blondie7240

TR Because what happened was perfectly legal. They overbooked. There needs to be room. They announce who is getting kicked off. If those persons stay on the plane they are now trasspassing. That man stayed on the plane. The only way to remove him was through force.

Jericho Arroyo one person should not reflect an entire business, I don't think it's right to blame an entire cooperation based on ones demeanor. I am sure United has let go of those people who do not portray the objective they are trying to serve among the passengers.

Jack Thomas Yes one person doesn't represent an entire business unless that person happens to be the CEO, who in this case clearly isn't sorry that his employees handled the situation wrongly.
