From an objective viewpoint it's clever, but subjectively it's the next step in invasive advertising. If I GAF what's in a whopper, I'll ask my device(s) myself. I don't have a Google home device, but if I did and I forgot to mute commercials on my television or computer, I definitely wouldn't appreciate the extra noise pollution in my house. On the flip side, the simple solutions for this are voice-recognition or a changeable code phrase (e.g., instead of "Okay, Google..." one might address a home device as, "Junior Mint...")

Though I agree that this ad was neat/unoffensive, it also gives rise to people sharing audio/video clips that will potentially crash the device(s) and/or leave homes vulnerable. It's a lot like people who find text messages that if opened with an iPhone will cause the device to completely stop working. Since many homes now have systems (lights/doors/etc.) that can be controlled by Alexa/Google Home/etc. it makes advertisements like this sort of a double edged sword. It gets especially precarious if the advertisers try to directly order items for their customers from the advertisements beyond the customers wishes (because you can totally ask Alexia, Cortana, and Google Home to purchase something from specific apps/sites).

The BK ad is a harmless and clever joke. If anything it shows how vulnerable those technologies are in a not harmfull but selfpromoting manner. I think the hate from those people is just some reflex reaction from the shock of the realization, that technology does not only do what you want it to do. The articles of smartphones and smart tvs *always* recording don't seem to be enough warning...

As someone who is interested in marketing because it's the field I'm in, I kind of liked the Whopper ad. It's different, it's original, it's not harmful so I don't see the problem many people have with it.

Ron Ulmer I wouldn't even be mad at them for it. It's the first ad of its kind and it's exploiting the capabilities of the tech at hand. I honestly can't see why it's a problem because it's nothing harmful and it's no more intrusive than watching your tv with the turned sound up. As long as it doesn't run for too long and it's not showed too frequently as to not become an annoyance, it's more of a witty and gimmicky marketing campaign that will stick with a lot of people because of it. If you are so lazy as to use sound opperated tech, then you deserve the oh-so-miniscule inconvenience of having it activated by...wait for it...SOUND, whatever the source. Invasion of privacy? This phrase is used far too much. The FBI didn't storm your house, take pictures of you in the shower, and plant heroin in your sock drawer. A sound activated device may have been activated by the all too predictible means of someone other than yourself talking. If you don't want your sound activated device activated, learn to push buttons with your fingers.

This, not one site I read mentioned WHY they used it (which makes complete sense once you realize what it's built for). Yes, it's a freaking big ass bomb, but once you see the reasoning behind it, it makes more sense to use it (and as much as I hate Trump, I doubt that any other president or canidate would have chosen something else, that's what this bomb is built for, might as well put it to it's use).

For me it was mentioning that this has been in the planning stages for months. My big concern isn't that we used the MOAB, because I'm all for stepping up action against ISIS. My concern is that there doesn't seem to be any decisive plan of action, so I'm glad this wasn't as off the cuff as it seemed. Loving Phil's show.

The "ok google" also works on Android phones that have the google search voice command. I have that on my phone, so when the ad played, I didn't think "Oh, google home!" I just thought, "Oh, googling something on your phone when you want to know more about a sandwich. neat." I fail to see how this ad is at all terrible to be quite honest. People get up in arms over just about ANYTHING....
