Pentaholics (hopelessly addicted Pentatonix fans) live for that bass. Each of these guys are excellent individually. Together they are magnificent. The bass guy in this one went off on his own a few years ago (be SURE you hear "Change On The Rise" by Avi Kaplan.) The new guy, Matt is very good in his own right.

Welcome to the Pentatonix (PTX for short) rabbit hole. FYI...their crazy loyal fans are dubbed Pentaholics 😁. Loved your reaction! Crazy talented a capella group that has been together since 2011 when they won Season 3 of the Sing Off. FYI....the guy with the beard is Avi Kaplan (the bass) left the group in 2017 and Matt Sallee (new bass) has joined the group. You'll see him in newer videos. They've won 3 Grammys to date and are continuously touring the world performing sold out concerts for fans everywhere. Please react to their Daft Punk Medley (this won them their 1st Grammy). You will seriously be blown away. They have amazing covers and original music. The list is huge. Another of my favourites is their cover of New Rules x Are You That Somebody (Matt is in this one) so extremely polished and it's complete fire 🔥

This song has Avi Kaplan as the bass. Hes an original member. He left in 2017 and was replaced by Matt.

I never thought about it, but the name definitely would fit with Asterix and Obelix. In actuality, it is named after the pentatonic scale. Thanks for reacting to this. They have quite a few great songs they have covered, along with a few originals. They do have some live performances and don't do anything in a video that they don't also do live.

You will be amazed with their live version side by side...they are almost the same (Scott the first singer changes his riff a little in the live) but the rest is just the same and you have to remind yourself it is live!

Handsome guy, glad to have you in PTX, on the way to becoming a Pentaholic. I have followed them since 2013 and have never been disappointed. I liked and Subscribed, look forward to your next PTX video. There will be SOOOO Many suggestions, so grab a pen and jot them down. If you react to Aha - Singapore Star Vista, I would suggest you do it as a double feature and do the Official Video first and then the Live version. Also, Before too long, Drop all the way back to 2011 when they first came on as a group on the show The Sing Off Season 3. You will get to see them from the very beginning and see how scared and nervous and unsure they were, then you will realize just how amazing they have become. See you soon!

When Avi sings, Scott does the bass. Scott has an insane range. This is true for Matt, too. When Matt sings in "Sound of Silence", Scott does the bass.

Thanks for this reaction. Always love to see other people hearing and seeing PTX for the first time... always great... obviously your next reactions of PTX should be „Sound of silence“, „Daft Punk“, „Bohemian Rhapsody“, „Imagine“ and „Mary did you know“, but because you were talking about their studio work and mixing up the layers, i would suggest you to listen to the live version of „Halleluja“ for a better understanding of PTXs philosophy, „Never do something in studio, what we cannot hold on stage“. If you then have seen this live version from their christmas special, you will definitely listen to their other songs from another sight... believe me...

Long story that you will be drawn into that begins in 2011. You can actually see their very first performances together because they formed for a tv show competition called the Sing-Off. Only for a capella groups. A good simple song that demonstrates the band's technique is a cover of Gold by Kiiara. I would also recommend Imagine by John Lennon and then either Daft Punk or Bohemian Rhapsody or Evolution of Michael Jackson. Oh big issue - no studio aftereffects or layering. They sound exactly the same way standing in front of a live audience. You can get a video of Hallelujah performed live and compare if you like.

There was not a lot of production work aside from balancing and cleaning. If you listen to them do this song live, it sounds very much the same. In this video and for the first 6 years of their existence, Avi Kaplan was their bass. We all have our likes and dislikes, but I only listen to PTX when Avi was with them.

@@mariebrady8475actually that appears to be a rumor about Avi suggesting Matt. Also my preference has nothing to do with "insulting Pentatonix". Avi's sister remained as their tour manager after he left for a couple of years. I prefer original music and Avi is a songwriter. Everything he does (with a couple of exceptions done as encores) and Lean On Me which he recorded and released during quarantine are original.

Welcome to the new world of a capella. Pentatonix and Home Free have rewritten the book on a capella worldwide. All of the suggestions for more songs to listen to are great. Pentatonix has 3 Grammys, one for their "Daft Punk Medley" (Daft Punk), one for their "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" (Tchaikovsky), and one for basically being Dolly Parton's backup band(?) on "Jolene". Also, try "Sound of Silence" (Simon & Garfunkel), "Imagine" (John Lennon), "Bohemian Rhapsody" (Queen), "Mad World" (Tears for Fears), and of course, any of their Christmas music. For Home Free may I recommend their "Man of Constant Sorrow", "Ring of Fire" (Johnny Cash), and my favorite, "Helplessly Hoping" (Crosby, Stills & Nash) (and then a quarantined Italian Youth Choir's cover of Home Free's arrangement).

They always put their spin on what they do. This is the original group before Matt replaced Avi Kaplan who is the bass in pre-2017 videos like this one. The 2011-2017 PTX won 3 Grammys in that time. No other acapella group has won any. They won their first Grammy for Daft Punk medley, their second for The Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy (a 2 minute 20 second instrumental with no instruments and no words), and their third for a collaboration with Dolly Pardon on Jolene. What should you listen to next... Bohemian Rhapsody, Daft Punk, Can't Hold Us, Sing, Mary Did You Know, and Imagine. Then go to post-2017 (Matt) for Sound Of Silence, Havana, and Amazing Grace. Finally for some of their original work try Run To You and Love Again.

Avi Kaplan is the original bass singer. He is from California and Kevin Olusola is from Kentucky. Avi they found because he was very well known in the acapella community and had toured in Australia and I think Europe with different groups. Kevin they found through a video he put up on RU-vid playing his cello and beatboxing at the same time. The other 3 were in the same high school in Texas.

If you liked that one, you should hear Daft Punk and Bohemian Rhapsody. I think these are the best 3 they have done to date. I really enjoy their songs that have Avi as the bass. While Matt is a fantastic bass and has done a great job replacing Avi, Avi is something special. You can really hear it in this song when Scott takes over the bass part while Avi is singing his solo (2nd solo in this song), the bass part becomes a little less powerful. Then when Avi is done with his solo and goes back to singing bass, the bass part becomes more powerful again. You can also hear him and Tim Faust (another strong bass singer) in the video by Home Free covering Johnny Cash's song "Ring of Fire".

I'm not sure what you mean by so many different layers of actual recordings. There are five, one for each of them. There are no drums or other instruments. Just the five of them. They refer to themselves as a band and to each other as bandmates. I recommend Daft Punk, Bohemian Rhapsody, or Can You Feel the Love Tonight? If you want to hear some their original songs, try Run to You, Happy Now, or Light in the Hallway.

Most of your reaction I liked. I did not like like you talking over them while they were singing, but I thought i child handle it until you were talking so loudly over Mitchs solo. Most people are too stunned on a first time listen when he is singing. Sorry its just ny opinion but while listen to the music, I just would rather you pause if you have something to say.

You need to listen to the live version. There isn’t any technical magic going on in the background. That’s all them. There aren’t any drums. It’s all done either vocally or beat boxing.
