Suite -Judy blue eyes Crosby,Stills,Nash reaction. First time hearing music video reactions videos and entertainment channel #crosbyStillsNashYoung #musicreaction #crosbystillsnash
The whole title is Suite: Judy Blue Eyes, with suite indicating disparate sections being woven together in on song. It is also a play on the phrase sweet Judy blue eyes, as it about Stephen Stills travails in an on again off again relationship with the brilliant folk singer, Judy Collins, who has china blue eyes as well as an angelic voice. Very clever and one of the all time classics. Wonderful reaction!
Thanks for the explnation of what a suite is . How about that, he with Judy Collins and Nash with Joni Mitchell (Our House) . When you describe Judy's eyes, it reminds me of Vincent's "eyes of China blue .
Funny story about that song. Jefferson Airplane did a cover of it, added a single line and Paul Kantner gave himself co-writing credit! LOL. Bands in those days were so incestuous. Crosby was in a triangle relationship with Grace Slick and Kantner (no, not a menage a trois but Crosby called it a triad) and Paul had heard the song before CSN recorded it.
Was thinking the same. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AdiuqQ7xm30.html Also suggesting an early Stills-Young collaberation with Buffalo Springfield's "Mr. Soul." ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jyc0JSd5q7U.html As much as Harri loves The Beatles, getting into Neil Young -- and his deep, deep catalog -- is a logical next step.
Always knew this was about a longing for Judy Collins. She has always been amazing to me but a young Judy Collins, yawwwzzzuuuhhh!!!!!And then there are those sweet blue eyes, from both sides, now.
Crosby, Stills and Nash were wonderful in concert. The harmonies..... Check out "Helplessly Hoping" and Guinnevere for some of the most beautiful harmony ever.
I remember Graham interviewing Judy on a tv show he was doing at one point . He said to her: Do you know how many questions we have had to answer, about you, everytime we sing Suite:Judy Blue Eyes? She grinned from ear to ear. Then Stephen came out and they sung a song together. Beautiful!
This was from their first album and Young had not yet joined them. This is quintessential Southern California singer/songwriter folk rock from late sixties.....1969 if I recall I wore this album out that summer And yeah, the close harmonies would remind you a bit of S&G.
Young was with them on stage playing this song... he was left of off the credits out of spite for refusing to be on camera at Woodstock when he saw the bands were playing to the cameras instead of the 300,000 fans.. He and Stills sang two songs together from their Buffalo Springfield days, later that day..
This is my mum and dad's song. He persuaded her to marry him by singing this and "Words" by The Bee Gees to her. He had a gorgeous voice. They have been married for 46 years! He is my step dad but to me he's just dad. When he married my mum, he brought his record collection with him. Oh deep joy! L.Zeppelin; Uriah Heep, CSNY, Sabbath, Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, Free and on and on...I already had The Beatles but my musical education expanded exponentially with every vinyl dream I played. They still love this.
@@billycaine4075 hey, now. There's no call for this. Everybody is entitled to their opinion. There's room here for Chocolate AND Vanilla. Maybe even Strawberry or Pistachio, but definitely NOT Rum Raisin, and Sherbet is right out the window. Yes, people are entitled to their opinion ... but one must maintain standards.
Good cover of one of the TOP singer/ songwriters of the last century. Stephen Stills. The guy just ozzzed with the perfect lyrics and music. Check out the album Stephen did with Judy Blue Eyes several years ago. Should also mention that Stephen played bass and organ as well as some of the percussions.
While we have Judy Collins in mind, "Her cover of Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" was for me the most beautiful song to my young teenage ears and brain. Really. You should listen.
These guys, with and without Neil Young, had some of the best harmonies of all time. This song is a showcase of the talent of each one. Just exquisite for your ears. They were actually amazing live. I was lucky enough to see them (with Neil) in person. The show went on for over two hours. They did songs as a foursome and then various combinations and solos. Fantastic!!😂
A "Suite" is a collection of short musical pieces which can be played one after another. I'm a solo guitarist and I played it live...a great song to perform. Of course, when I played there were always 500+ drunk people singing with me.
I had the good fortune of seeing Crosby, Stills and Nash a few weeks after their appearance at Woodstock and when this song was climbing the charts. They played outdoors in a small football stadium. They did the transitions of the different parts of this song with ease. I can't remember who else was at that concert... CS&N stole the show.
David Crosby had been in The Byrds. Steven Stills was in Buffalo Springfield. And Graham Nash was in the Hollies. (L-R in the picture on the album cover seen here, they are Nash, Stills, and Crosby.) All three of their previous bands are well worth exploring. Check out "Mr. Tambourine Man" and "Turn Turn Turn" by the Byrds. Check out "For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield, arguably the most important protest song of the '60s. And when it comes to the Hollies, where do I begin? "Bus Stop," "Stop, Stop, Stop," "Look Through Any Window," and "The Air That I Breathe" (recorded after Graham left the band) are some of their best. This song was their second single from their self-titled album. Marakesh Express was the first. There is a song on the album that you definitely should listen to called "Lady Of the Island." Sung by David Crosby. One of the most beautiful, intimate songs you will ever hear. This is one of those landmark albums that seemingly EVERYONE with any taste in music owned. Neil Young would join them later and the group became Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, which released one album together called De Ja Vu. Another landmark album. These guys didn't stay together long (just the two albums), but boy, they made every track count. Both albums are just chocked full of wonderful songs that are held in the highest esteem by countless millions of music lovers.
Very nicely told, thank you. I would add that these three all relesed solo albums after their parting. If you check them out, you'll be able to hear the individual styles and playing upon a re-listening to their collaborative work. I love this album and their other giftings, prior and later to come. Thanks, Harri, for your love of music.
Now listen to Judy Collins singing "Both Sides Now" to see why Steven wrote a song about her. Then maybe Joni Mitchell singing the same song to see the best female singer songwriter of the era.
Yeah, they did it live a few times. They did it once after not having done it for years and pulled it off great. They were renowned for their great vocal harmonies. Samsbro 1952 tells the story of its origin.
Written for folk singer Judy Collins. She & Steve Stills have remained friends all these years later. The word that should stand out after hearing it is HARMONIES!!!
Notice that the person who sings lead is also the songwriter! (Any combination of the 3 or 4). I've been listening to their music for over 40 years. Love them all, Any combination!
I have seen them do the Suite: live so many times. Stills man, that guitar, those voices!! WOW!! Harri is sooooooooo mellow and cool. It is that proper British thing. haha
They did perform this song live at Woodstock, with their 3-man supergroup having been just newly formed. They were nervous about performing it but they got it done splendidly, captured beautifully in the film.
Neil Young was actually with them at Woodstock, but gave strict orders he was not to be on Camera. Don’t know why, but he Stay out of the Spotlight..Harri, Please React to “Wooden Ships” next. It’s about Post-Apocalyptic earth, the opening lines are…” I can see by the clothes you wear you’re from the other side. Can you tell me….Who won?” Beautifully done, Thnx!.. SanJoseBob
David Crosby- "This is our second gig.." Stephen Stills- "This is the second time we've ever played in front of people man... we're scared shitless." Said to 300,000 people at Woodstock 1969.
The band was so full of talent that you can spin off solo works from any of them - Neil Young (Old Man) Stephen Stills (Treetop Flyer) Graham Nash (Lay me down) and David Crosby (Music is love) HARMONY GREATNESS
I learned how to sing harmony by singing along with CSNY back in their time. No other group has perfected rock harmony than CSN and Y. They stand alone in this regard!
Songs of that era frequently excelled at changing up melodies, beat and lyrics. Even in the 80s you had a song like Come Sail Away which starts out as almost a classic piano tune and morphed into rock and electronica.
Very good reaction HarriBest, the other musicians that you mentioned at certain parts of the song I can totally see. You gave me a lot to think about even though I have heard this song so many times. Well Done.
Neil Young joined CS&N after they recorded this album. They needed someone else who played guitar etc. because Stills played most of the instruments on the album.
Grahsm Nash is from Manchester where the Beatles used to play in the old days. He studied them first hand in a Msnchester club before they were famous which is why he might sound like Paul McCsrtney at times
Hi Harry -- First, this is not a reaction request but just a sharing of a little background on this song; "suite" (yes it does have several parts) which I've always belived is a little play on words instead of saying sweet Judy Blue Eyes. Stephen Stills (the one in the middle on the albun cover photo) wrote this song about Judy Collins (a very popular singer at the time) and he was the one to sing lead when they were not harmonizing. Judy and Stephen were an item before the song came out. For most of us, this song was our first introduction to CSN. Also, it was very prominently featured in the Woodstock movie. Very visually appealing with great sound for a live performance. It was very stripped down except for the harmonies. That appearence really helped propell them (and their harmonies) toward stardom. BTW, Woodstock was only their second gig ever. There is also an interesting story of how they decided to become a group, it was always all about their ability to sing harmony (a story featured in Graham Nash's book). The song "Our House" was written by Graham Nash during his time with Joni Mitchell and their house together.
Harri in 1969 we were spoilt ,Led Zeppelin ,Beatles ,Black Sabbath ,Free, Fleetwood Mac,the list goes on and on ,kids today don't know what they missed
A good live version of this song is the woodstock one. It has neil young on it as well. Also Harri, i suggest you listen to csn& y ' s " Teach Your Children ". As a son and a father this song has always pulled at my heart.
*Harry* I'm going to inject an artist { I think is new to your channel } .... *Bob Segar* !!!!! He is an AMAZING storyteller and his catalog is VERY deep.! My top 3 suggestions below and he does soft rock, bangers, funk, you name it.! These 3 are *MUST LISTENS* IMHO... 1) Turn The Page 2) Night Moves 3) Against the Wind
These guys were music heroes back in the day. I bought a Guild D-35 in '72 because of them. Note: I always thought this song could not be covered. Check out the "Foxes and Fossils" cover. Even Graham Nash complimented them on it.
Someone else mentioned the live 1990’s version. Stephen Stills guitar so is not to be missed. I didn’t notice anyone commenting on Stills hearing loss. It was diagnosed as a child and has progressively worsened. He is still able to sing with help of hearing aids.
Speaking of Judy Collins, please do her version of Amazing Grace with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, a song from the heavens that will transform you I promise. Thanks!
Another CSN song you might like is Love the One You're With. The song was also covered by a number of artists, notably the Isley Brothers and Luther Vandross.
Whenever you want to get your mellow on, try "Southern Cross" by them and also they did one of the best covers of "Blackbird" by the Beatles that I have ever heard. Peace and love ❤️
I enjoy your reaction videos so much because you are so excited by the music. Please stay amazed at the music that is out there. The 60's and 70's were magical. Catch some of that lightening in a bottle.
Interesting that you mention doing this song live as they did this at Woodstock, their debut as a group and that really helped launched thim into stardom. Check it out, it's really cool.
I heard them live in Honolulu around 1970 and they OPENED with it. As I recall they only played with acoustic guitars and the percussion was supplied by Stills knocking and slapping his guitar. What a concert!
I saw CSN twice in concert. The 2nd time, I wore a t-shirt from the 1st concert. We had from row seats but were smashed against the fence in the front. I guess Graham Nash noticed my shirt because he pointed at me & tossed me his guitar pick. I'm sure it wasn't because of my elderly beauty. LOL! I have it framed with my ticket stub.
Stephen Stills used to be with the Buffalo Springfield, his girlfriends was Judy Collins. The song is about her. Even though they all were in a big namae band prior to getting together, they played it live for the first time at Woodstock. The live version is mostly acapella, maybe two acoustic guitars . . but that's it. It's a great listen. Try it
I grew up listening to this music (a fan) and I can never remember which ones are CSN, and which ones are CSNY. Frankly, it doesn't matter, both are fantastic!!!
