To me the Black Series Mando is just punching so far above its weight, the fact that it is even in consideration with figures 3 to 4 times more expensive, is just amazing. And I think the proportions are actually slightly better than with the Mafex (and certainly better than the Figuarts).
Mafex caught my attention with their Triumphant Dark Knight Returns and I've been hooked ever sense. I'd had this Mafex Mando 2.0 pre-ordered sense Jan 2023. I was always going to keep my pre-order, but in that year of waiting, the Black Series really is impressive and made me consider getting an additional Mando. My biggest complaint on the Mafex is the exclusion of Grogu's hover pod. Hopefully, I'll be able to 3-D print one. Edit: clarity
It is great there are many companies that are making such a good competing figure. For my money, Black Series take the crown just because of the price even if it has less accessories and extra parts.
I've got all three and I agree the Mafex is overall the best if I had to pick just one. The accessories and proportions are great, best cape too. That said, the Figuarts has a better looking flight suit as the Mafex looks way too clean. Figuarts' Mando also has a better looking pelvis area than Mafex (weird sentence, I know lol). The Mafex Mando's whole crotch area just looks odd. And Mafex's whole midsection is frustrating to pose compared to the buttery smooth Figuarts. Also, the Figuarts Grogu is far and away better than the Mafex's "kawaii" version. The Black Series is very nice and once I gave it some extra paint for the missing stuff (red for his bombs, silver for his kneepad and some parts on his belt and bandolier) it looks almost perfect. But someone rightfully pointed out that while the Black Series is seemingly cheaper, if you wanted all of the accessories included in the Mafex/Figuarts, you'd need to buy so many other figures, making Black Series even more expensive than the imports. By the way, the Figuarts season 2 Mando also has Grogu in his bag, but I prefer the awesome hover pram with the season 3. Last thing I'll mention, Mando wears his cape draped over his left shoulder. Not sure why, but every single review I've seen, people drape it over the wrong shoulder, lol. C'mon guys, we're all supposed to be anal retentive nerds, here!
These are all really great points! And I actually totally know what you mean about the pelvis stuff 🤣 I actually never noticed which shoulder the cape was on, I will change my ways!!
I have all three and agree-Figuarts has the best articulation and Mafex has the best accessories. I will add that I think the BS has the best overall sculpting, however that definitely hinders the articulation for it. If I had to choose just one, it would be Mafex. Luckily I don’t so 3x Mandos on the shelf it is!
Back when you dropped the new review for the recent Black Series, I was surprised to see people in the comments bad mouthing the Mafex Mando.... now they're silent. I'd say all these figures are great, they just have different strengths. I'll probably try picking up one of these down the line as I already have the first Mafex Mando but this one is definetely an upgrade over V1.
In case you didn't know, the back plate that comes with the jetpack can actually be separated from it. So if you want to take the jetpack on and off, you can remove only the jetpack and leave the back plate with a hole on the figure
I think when it comes to choosing the best figure, I’d consider the most important factor to be who it’s for. Then form there, more niche information comes into the equation. To provide an example my friend’s son just turned four. I’d deem the perfect figure for him to be the black series Mando. Primarily, it’s durable enough to standup to the rough play of a young child, with most damage being pretty negligible. Next it’s high level of detail allows for a child to marvel at it, while also overshadowing potential screen inaccuracies an older colector might notice. Finally, it’s cost effective, if a child does manage to break it, replacing it will be no problem. For an adult collector like myself, the Mafex Mando would be perfect. First, the level of quality this figure has out of the box is basically unmatched. Second the amount of accessories it has, coupled with the emotive range of the hands and their ease of interchangeability, again I say unmatched. Third, the price of $100 I’ll happily pay because of the first two points.
That’s a pretty good point, personally I’m not an Adult yet but I’m still pretty good at storing my accessories without them getting mixed up and I’ve only ever broken one of my figures and it’s very minor damage. (Technically I’m not the who broke it but still)
The helmet with a flashlight was kind of a waste of potential. They could have inserted an LED if they were going to provide an entirely new helmet mold with it on.
Im assuming the lume cube is made of some sort of plastic since you said it melted, but if youre looking to salvage it in any capacity, id recommend sanding the melted/discolored areas with high grit sandpaper meant for plastic. Like, #900 or even #1000. You can pick up a small gunpla sanding pack from a local hobby store. It wont fix the fact it melted, but you can fosho lighten the discoloration.
Hey thanks a lot! I’ll definitely do this! I was able to scrape off most of the burnt bits, but I’ll definitely sand it with some fine sandpaper! Good thinking!!
I have the mafex and i would say that this figure is sooo good by far and quite a affordable price ❤❤ great video mando and grogu are my absolute fave star wars characters
To me it's no contest - the Mafex one is head and shoulders (pun intended) the best. That does not take away from how brilliant the Glavis Ringworld one is. On looks alone, I think I prefer it to the S. H. Figuarts version. And this is from a guy who thinks S. H. Figuarts makes the best Star Wars 6-inch scale models, period! My favourite Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Boba Fett versions are all from S. H. Figuarts. But as far as Mando is concerned, they lose out to the other two.
Yeah i got it from amazon japan like a week ago…but it had chipped down paint on the main helmet…tried to fix it bit it just got even worse so i ordered another one 😀 this is the best 6inch mando in my opinion! And Grogu is great too! Also you can separate the jetpack from that backplate. :)
Dude i was wondering, have u got an option editing similar just like in the laptop but on mobile phone ? Cause I don’t have a laptop to edit cool effects like you. Really appreciate if you can share with us 🙏🏼
Hey thanks for watching!! There is a photoshop for IPad, but not for mobile yet! I made a list of my 5 best editing apps for phones though, hope this helps! Good luck 🙇♂️ Top 5 Phone Editing Apps for Toy Photography! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qdcMTzBKg-E.html
I've been a fan of you for a while and I love your videos, you even inspired me to start doing toy photography. I'M definitely going to have to get the mafex mando! 😃
I was just scrolling through RU-vid videos (not the shorts) and I saw the thumbnail for this video and the figure caught my eye. I’m gonna consider getting this figure for my first Star Wars figure. I’ll have him hunting down my Marvel Legends RYV Spidey 🤣
I see there is a new competition going on with the articulation and the armor, and the movements. But even though i am sure it's no competition the companies are doing I am looking for the best. The figure arts one looked real good with the color of the armor. The mafex one looked real nice including the pedro pascal head. Idk what to choose because i alr have the plastic model one which was bought by accident (due to rushing without thinking), so I am looking for an actual figure that looks real good. I want to get either one btw.
Black Series wins this overall. If only the cape was black it’s 100/10 lol I don’t care about the extra paint, accessories, engineering, range of motion on these ‘premium’ figures, they’re nothing if the mold’s not right. BS Glavis looks like an actual person in a suit imho🫰🏻
I'd love to get this figure but I think I've blown my allotted funds for expensive import figures on the figuarts indiana jones (amazing figure) and deadpool (which I won't get til tomorrow), with a bit saved for the mafex chapter 4 john wick (whenever that get's released). so I'll be sticking with the black series for now.
10:05 NOOOOOO, The box must be kept why? Because Idk I just keep the boxes in case of repackaging and some boxes have really cool designs like some Neca boxes
That’s so funny! I literally was planning to do this for a while! But the only one with finger pointing hands is the Mafex. So I ended up not doing it. I should totally give it another shot!
I was really hoping u would do a vid aon this fig cause i was thinking about getting it, and i was also just wondering if the grappling hook is moveable like a wire? @@sirdork730
When it is only about the Mando Figure itself and we are not including the Grogus I would pick the Mafex from watching this Video (I never had a Mafex Figure myself or saw and hold one directly). I had the Season 2 Mando from S.H.Figuarts and it was my first (and yet only) S.H. Figuarts Figure so far. I was absolutely disappointed with this figure. So many bad things about this one imo. The Proportions are horrible, the helmet is not only to small but also looks weird imo. The articualtion is weird, it was hard for me to pose the figure in a natural looking way. Also all those little accessories are just falling apart as soon as you move the figure (the rifle was the worst!) and also the Foto - Real of Pedro Pascals face was ugly af. And yes it was an original figure and not a bootleg. From watching this video I can already see that this S.H.F Mando is pretty much the same (at least when it comes to visuals). So for me even NOT considering the price I would prefer the Black Series Glavis Ringworld Mando over the S.H.F. I own this figure and it was 10 times better than the S.H.F that I had imo and so much cheaper.
