15:00 minute mark had me CRYING laughing. OMG, the empathy I felt. If I had a dollar for every time I flipped the bird to a frustrating figure...I could afford a LOT more figures. Thanks for the chuckle, Robo.
Haha, I think the last time I was close to this frustrated was the SHF Mando and that rifle. And then the one before. Maybe it's just that rifle in general....
I can't believe how many versions of this character have been made in less than 5 years since his first appearance. Some characters have never been made into action figures and they have existed for 40+ years...
I knew something was missing in my life. It was Uncle Robo talking about toys. Especially toys he said "I don't need another version of this Character!" In a previous video.
I have nearly every 6" Mando there is, including this one, the Glavis Ringworld version and even the newest SHF. While the new SHF isn't better than the Mafex in most ways, it does correct a lot of the older issues. It looks much grungier, the articulation is MUCH better than the Mafex, and the newest SHF Grogu is by far the best looking. It even has articulated EARS! If you can find that Mando for a discount, I recommend it. I ended up liking it a lot more than I expected and again, don't sleep on that new SHF Grogu in the package!
I agree. I repainted & added a new helmet to the Black Series years ago and just recently added hands from my first Mafex Mando since mine was a dud. It works for now, but I want a Mafex version. Still my favorite design for him.
Mando does gets one small update to his look at the end of season 3: he loses his pistol and holster and replaces it with dual wielding giant pistols scavenged from Gideon's super commandos. So we'll see that version as a figure any day now!
I do think that out of all the options out there, the one who has handled storage for the rifle the best was the model kit. Just take off the strap piece, plug in the holder into the rifle, and plug it into the back. Simple, and easy to swap out
Man, you showed way more restraint than I usually do when I'm frustrated with a figure. I would have not only flipped the bird, but a string of expletives would have issued forth from my mouth hole that could make a sailor blush! Still, glad to see I'm not alone in such a reaction. Thanks for another great review, Robo! Your videos are always a bright spot in my day.
This looks great, I heard good things articulation wise from the v3 of SHF and they finally did a proper holster, apparently there is some sacrifice with the chest armor but if the articulation is good I can see pass that and it's grogu also had good reviews with some small level of articulation and including a wash
Yeah, I've seen some good things, and it looks better than the first two, but I was already committed to the MAFEX and the first one done me right so I stuck with this.
@@RoboDontKnow yeah I also committed to the mafex at this point I'm ok with a definitive mando until they make an actual significant change to his outfit
@@RoboDontKnow same, I think that Lucas film is scared of changing it too much because it became iconic too fast, they didn't hesitate with boba so I hope we see mando make some change now that there's a whole movie coming out
I do want to clarify some things about the Mafex season 2 Mandalorian. First, the pieces of the gauntlets being removable, I believe they were inspired by the SH figuarts Mando since they had them as well. In my opinion, they should have just keep the big flame piece that the v1 came with and just have the right vambraces as one solid piece like the original. The second, the whip arrow, there is actually a hole below the wrist peg on the right Vambraces. Not a huge fan of it and I fear it will break off. Again, it would have been easier if they just kept the original vambraces from the 1v since you can change it for one that is firing the whip. Third, I think I prefer how the v1 did the rifle gimmick with two bandoliers. Also I don’t think it was necessary to have two rifles. Lastly, it would be nice have the knife hands more wide open for both the knife and rifle. I took my pin drill and made the hole a bit wider or heat it up and use something wide to spread the hole a bit.
They definitely should’ve just made full on swappable gauntlets since they’re already a separate piece. I remember the first version had a second gauntlet for the grapple, idk why they didn’t implement that again
Im so glad i held off with by the 1.0 version and the Glavis Ring World version. This 2.0 was well worth the money, also having a bunch of point from amiami helped too.
We love you Robo. Thank you for suffering for us. Watching you rage over that stupid rifle attachment so I don’t have to. Definitely happy sticking with the new Black Series All the bells and whistles don’t make up for the lack of fun-factor when messing with a finnicky figure.
Oh this finally popped into my algorithm lol good to see your star wars reviews of Mando always a joy. But what's a bigger joy? Your reviews of the all your Vader figure. You gonna review the new Figuarts Kenobi Vader any time soon? I think you'll like it a lot. The Kenobi version of Vader's helmet really grew on me over time and I much prefer it now over the ROTJ figuarts Vader.
Those angled tight grip hands seem to be for the knife since the shape of the hole matches the knifes handle. The hand you stuck the knife in seems to be for the spear lol
Nice review… I use that same gorilla glue on my customs as well… have about a good month maybe two before it dries up, lol And that dang rifle part had me almost rolling on the floor, lol
The rifle is added the same ways as SHF did in the first version. I think, I would go in the minority but I still like SHF will all the complexity too, the paint job is fantastic and the overall quality too. I got this one only for the actor's likeness for the head. :)
The removable pieces on the gauntlets seem to have a little extra nub from the mold process that I snipped off. Once I did that both sat in very well and haven’t fallen out yet
I cancelled my pre-order because I had a big month, but this guys _looks_ phenomenal and the accessories look awesome. My issue is mostly down to the limited elbow and knees being a bit of a bummer and the finickyness you mentioned. I'll still get him though, he'll probably be the last word of Mando, at least for me.
There's a hole on his wrist for the grappling hook. If u take off his right hand and look inside the joint u should see it. Similar to how hot toys did theirs.
Not usually too into imports, but I had this preordered from day one and I'm glad I didn't cancel it. Probably my favorite six inch scale Mando although I still do really like the Glavis Ringworld BS figure. The grapple hook effect does have a place to attach, there is a really small hole/cut in the gauntlet rim around the wrist joint it goes into - although I don't blame you for missing it, it's tiny lol
Ok getting this guy on hands today, I like it but yeah there are some frustrations, I managed to take apart the torso and used some silicone shock oil to loose the joints a bit and there's a lot more movement than how it comes out of box, I with the shoulder pads were done different, like figuarts got that right or even the hasbro approach, because they are the biggest limit in the arm articulation
At 19:10 the way to put the grappling hook in is there is a ver tiny peg hole on the right arm in between the gauntlet and where the wrist peg is. Hope this helps 👍
I have the same philosophy Robo. Better to order and be lslightly disappointed then fail to order and have it be impossible to track down at a reasonable price. That also means they hold their value much better than Hasbro. I do agree that there's a diminishing return from ultra-compicated accessories and attachments. It's a fine line that Figuarts and Mafex sometime overstep.
I don't think I would superglue the gauntlet piece maybe try a little bit of PTFE (plumber) tape on the peg it should give it that little bit more friction to hold it in place.
I sold my V1 Mafex Mando. It just didn't hit the notes I wanted the way one of the many versions I decided upon from Hasbro did. The same peg/hole/accessory, head, all of it is where Mafex just overcomplicated it. If you need four hands to make your figure do the thing, then it's two hands too many.
@@RoboDontKnow yeah I feel you … mostly because it’s the same thing that happened to me with the 1.0 mafex that kept me from getting this one. One thing though … new shf is way better than the other shf ones but still have the same proportions so you won’t like it as much as those mafex ones
The color of the armor on the Figuarts Season 3 is off, but the articulation is so much better and it doesn't feel like it's going to fall apart in your hands.
@@freddysmith1471 agreed but I like the darker one … suits more the low lights represented in the show on most of the season 3 episodes and also having the previous versions I appreciate the different tone but yeah I know what you mean
I was just about to comment on the rifle storage. I did the same thing. Move the cape out of the way and just make it flow over. I think that looks better anyway.
Nice review Robo and now that we are on the topic of Star Wars figures (I apologize if you have answered this before) is there any reasson to not review the SH Figuarts Kenoby Darth Vader? Im just curious since usually there is always Star Wars reviews in your end specially when it comes to look for that definitive version
It is so overengineered it's frustrating. They should have just made the gauntlets removable and had an additional pair with the effects permanently attached or have a peg hole to attach just the effects. The accessories are great, but the Black Series is more fun to pose around and it looks just as good as the Mafex does with my Figuarts and Black Series figures. Now I have to decide if I want the Mafex or the Figuarts Ahsoka.
They had swappable gauntlets with MAFEX 1.0, don't know why they didn't stick with that. And yeah, same, I have MAFEX Ahsoka on pre-order but I'm sure liking the look of that SHF....
Great review! I've never understood the the purpose of the "drop-down shoulders." Is it for when one wants to pose their figure as shrugging, forlorn or dejected?
For me I still like the simplicity of the Black Series versions. With the BS there isn’t a million small parts that come off and are changeable. For really all Mandolorians and Boba Fett
Been looking forward to this review. Still awaiting on mine to arrive here in the UK from Japan. After watching the tracking, it’s gone to Japan, then China, then France, then Germany and now it’s stuck in Belgium. Fingers crossed it arrives in one piece 😂
14:55 I think the fact that its an import might have something to do with it. Imports have a reputation of being high end and hyper detailed with tons of features, so maybe now and again that results in them making some things needlessly complex for the sake of added function and detail
Seems like you suffered a lot with this one but it was entertaining lol btw they are planning a movie about Mando and Grogu so yey more Mando figures in the next years 😂
I probably have quite a few of these but have never opened one (yet) but man, does that look excruciating to watch folks fiddle with that rifle and it's attachments😂 Also, bless your genuine moment Robo. Golden💛
Unfortunately, no, this isn't the latest Mando look. In season 3 he got two new pistols to dual wield. So, look for that coming soon from all the companies...
Robo lol you could have put the piece on the back and then pushed it through the cape, then while holding it in place put the tip of the rifle through it 🤣
I tried several different ways, it wasn't happening, haha. My own fault, I should just stop and go watch TV for a while when I feel that frustration coming on.
The front of the box looks like a cereal box. Just take out the figure & insert a cereal bowl with some kind of Mando shaped crunchy things and you're good to go.
2hrs and 24min That's a pretty hefty run time remembering that most films are 1hr 30 or 40 min long going over the 2hr mark is great if the story calls for it and I'm sure that in this case it does.....I think the outcry is more a sign of how excited people are for this movie and I get it we want as much of these two characters as we can get it feels like we've waited forever to see these two together but anything longer than 2hrs 30min. you risk dragging things out and running flat so this sounds about right to me
@@RoboDontKnow I have no idea how this comment ended up on your channel I was commenting on another video that I watched before yours about the Deadpool Wolverine movie runtime and then I watched your review....classic Robo btw......I love Mafex...just finally got my Magneto figure and have been obsessed with it.......maybe that's how I screwed up the comment thing......ahhh....distraction
