The scary thing is that Telegraph Road from the same concert is every bit as hard, every bit as epic, and they had the stamina to do both (and a dozen other songs) in one night.

You just witnessed one of the truly great live performances of all time. I was there that night, after a six month deployment to the South Atlantic. An incredible night!

Mark created the best guitar riff ever heard in rock' n roll in this song.........and he's finger picking like a banjo player, unbelievable performance.

The fans got their money's worth this night. An outstanding performance. This live version is excellent. The tempo is ramped up over the original version, and the lyrics, in places, have been added to, but it is so great. The drummer was a little hyped up because apparently his father was in the audience, for the first time. Ocassionally, you can see Mark, the lead guitarist in the red jacket, look over at the drummer and smile. Such a fantastic performance.

Such a great live version! Dire Straits are a great British rock band from the 70's-90's. Mark Knopfler is one of the best guitarists around. They have had so many hits including "Walk Of Life", "Brothers In Arms", "Money For Nothing", "Telegraph Road", "Romeo & Juliet", "Private Investigations", "Twisting By The Pool", "So Far Away" etc. They don't have a bad song.

I hope you noticed the drummer. Terry Williams. He even blew away the other band members. His dad was in the audience, so he stepped it up. Bad ass.

First time to your channel. Enjoyed it. My dire straight story. It was my second year at college in Boston, week of midterms, Tuesday or Wednesday I believe, 6:30 p.m. . A friend of two of my roommates comes in and says he has won two tickets via a radio DJ to tonight's "Brothers In Arms" tour show (1986) at the Boston garden and he can't find anyone to go with him because of midterms. The concert starts in about an hour and a half and these two guys both say no, he looks at me and says would you want to go? I responded in a heartbeat yes even though I had two midterms the next day. We picked up the tickets at the door. I couldn't believe it They were 6th row center on the floor. I've never been so close to a major rock and roll band for such a long time, it was absolutely unforgettable. His fingers fly, no pick... Folks didn't want to leave they came back out for a second encore song. It was really a very well done show. I didn't do all that well on those two midterms but it was worth it.

One of the great musical performances of all time - by, IMO, the greatest guitarist I have ever seen or heard.

I think what alot of people don't notice about these classic bands is the communicating between all members...there is no click track in there ears ...its all subtle little breaks or nods of the head to let each other know where they going next ...

Still remember attending one of their concerts in Vienna in the 90s. Just wow.

I've been a Dire Straits fan for 40 years.

July 1977. Dire straits pre-released their first solo "Sultan of swings" to the radio stations. 7 months I was glued to Radio Luxemburg to hear it as often I could until finally Feb 78 the first album was released. Longest wait ever.

I’m 64yrs old and have been a fan of Dire Straits ever since they came on the scene back in 1978. The whole band are brilliant but you have the genius that is Mark Knopfler doing his thing on lead guitar. Plus the equally brilliant Terry Williams(rockpile) on the drums. The studio version of this is great but the boys really took it to another level with this live performance.

Every time I listen to this song, it's an emotional experience for me.

If I was lucky in anything with regard to the time I was born it was music. The Seventies and Eighties were ablaze with such a variety of songs and styles, and no auto tune. When you went to a live show you got the the same sound of the song and the experience of it beyond the studio version. And if you were wise to it you looked up the influences which sent you back through rock and roll to the folk scene, and the jazz scene and the blues. I still love it even now. As for these guys you will do them all. Live. "Romeo and Juliet", "Tunnel of Love", "Telegraph Road", and so many really. Just relax and enjoy. Great reaction by the way. Did lights for Dire Straits on their first album tour, David (Marks younger brother) was on rythym, Lovely people. Sultans had just broke big time but they never cancelled any of the tiny gigs they had been booked for. Title album is still one of the best debut albums I've heard. Enjoyed your face as each musical movement evolved, can it get better, yes it can, did it, yes it did. Oh heck I need longer arms.

LOL. I love your reaction. I'm 68 yrs old now and this is the music I grew up with. Not the same as live performances but it's great that we still have the recordings and videos to allow us to appreciate what was available to us back in the day.

Aren't they simply epic? As much as I love them, I loved your reaction as much or more! Watching you experience The Sultans of Swing was all the wake-up I needed today! I took that cassette tape with me to Alaska in 1989 and listened to it as we traveled by skiff from bay to bay, finding beaches oiled by the Exxon Valdez misstep. The boys helped keep my spirits from falling too hard, and I love them to this day. Enjoy the ride with them. You caught their groove, and I think you will be listening to them for a while!

I just turned 59 in Nov and growing up I LOVED Dire Straights and Sultans of Swing was my jam! The guitar solo parts still give me goosys! I just had a concert in my apt lol. I hope you will check out their other hits, like Money for Nothing ("I want my MTV" came about from that song.) Their song, So Far Away from Me, is another hit. I've always loved the guitar in bands and I remember watching a Documentary...20+ years ago they were talking to Pete Townsand (The Who) and he told the story of him taking his friend (Jimmy Page from guitarist and founder of Leg Zeppland) to see this American guitar player. Watching him play, he commented, basically, that guy is going to put us out of business. He was talking about the legend Jimi Hendricks when he went over to the UK at the beginning of his career.

Best live version of a song. I just missed Sultans of Swing first time around as I was around 12 but I fell in love with Dire Straits Brothers in Arms Album aged about 15. Money for Nothing was epic with the video at the time with the launch of MTV Europe. It was the first video to launch the show, with it's cutting edge CGI for the time. *I want my MTV*

This song is one that I can listen to repeatedly and have been for many years. A real masterpiece. Fun fact: Mark Knopfler, the lead guitarist wrote the song, "Private Dancer" which was performed at his request by Tina Turner.

BEST REACTION to any music reaction video I have EVER seen --- AFTER the song ended !! Happy exhaustion. That's how I feel every time after hearing it. I played the radio version 1,234 times in the spring of 78 living in a trailer down by the river in Austin, Texas.

Although the band in its entirety is fire, the drumming is phenomenonal here. It was the first time Terry Williams' father was in the audience to see his son perform, and consequently Terry was a bit hyped. You can see Mark Knopfler (lead guitar) smile occasionally as they were all challenged to keep up with the beat. This is just a fantastic performance. So glad I got to see them once in Milwaukee in 1985 during their Brothers in Arms tour. They are up there in my top ten bands ever. ❤️ 🎸❤
