WoWS: Legends - USS California - Premium Ship Review 

True enough. Mississippi only fired one broadside at the very end of the battle. Maryland attempted to range on WeeVee's shell splashes (all her radar could distinguish), with mixed results. Pennsylvania sat the fight out. She could not obtain a firing solution. WeeVee scored first salvo hits at around 20k yards. Rebel T and the Prune Barge followed up and quickly obtained hits. I'd highly recommend Anthony Tully's "Battle of Surigao Strait" if you're interested in the most up to date account of what happened and why.

I still probably prefer Arizona, something I imagine will change a bit once there are aircraft carries, but to each their own, right? 🙂

I did earn the Alaska a few weeks ago, but I haven't put anything together for it and I actually haven't even played it, yet. We'll see!

Yeah, a lot of time, unfortunately playing the most powerful ships doesn't always make for playing the most fun ships. The California has definitely been more fun for me than GK.

The California doesn't have access to the Targeting Mod 1, which would have been my choice if I could make it, so Secondary Mod is the only upgrade I could take that wouldn't apply a penalty to my main battery. Essentially, I didn't make a GK review because I was enjoying writing it right up until the point when I had to play the ship. It's lack of lack of any maneuverability and poor torpedo protection basically make you a sitting duck. Your secondaries are average, I guess. Really, it just doesn't play like a German ship and it isn't a particularly fun ship to play except if an enemy battleship does something profoundly stupid in your presence. My guess is that most people won't find it fun, and it will be substantially changed (like Yamato) relatively quickly... at which point I might make a GK review.

@@tacticangel understandable. Are using the rudder shift mod in the second slot on G.K?

@@lukaschyla8430 I have tried it with both the rudder mod and the propulsion mod (because that was the best way of getting the ship to dodge on Poltava) but both are pretty lacking.

Yep, just got one salvo deleted in a Fuso less than a minute in Two games later got 3/4 health chunked while face on in a Scharnhorst.... Though sod this, off to the pay to win shop and it's not there

She feels like a Tier 7 in tier v games...

I have it. Pretty good. The New Mexico offers a lot, but the California offers a bit more reliability on the artillery, and, most importantly, an improved reload. Scratch that, what's most important about the California is the view. She *T* *H* *I* *C* *C.*

Arizona is tankier

Well, this was a full accuracy build, and keep in mind that several of those shots do go a bit squirrelly.

Yeah, it's a confusing description, and probably not all that accurate for every torpedo that hits you. Flooding chance is determined by the amount of damage caused by a torpedo, I'm told, so reducing the torpedo damage does reduce flooding chance, on average, by the stated percentage.

@@tacticangel even if we take it as confusion over the discription of the skill. And the 8% (in my case) on that skill goes towards torp damage reduction, the California has 40% and that doesn't come to 45% however you add that percentage, also... . The queen Elizabeth goes from 22% to 28% with that extra 8%, which again doesn't add up (even more so, should be a smaller jump not more) Hopefully we'll get some answers on discord

If you look on tbull discord, legends chat you'll find Hey_it's_mojo worked it out, he did the maths, it's working as intended (it looks like). He explains it much better then I can.

Both Preset 1 and 2 have the option (though you don't have the gunlock in that case). I happen to use Preset 2.

That option is available only one Control Set 1 and 2 (I use 2). For whatever reason, I think option 4 is the default.

Well, my guess is it won't be for a while (but I wouldn't have guessed we were getting Odin, either). If they're reworking secondaries, I might even guess we may see the Massachusetts before her... but... my hope is we see a tier VII gunboat destroyer before either of them.

Yeah, I bought some doubloons to last me the next several campaigns, but I don't quite understand what you mean about the California.

WG releases them for most premium ships as they come out on their social media (Discord, Facebook, etc.)

Yeah, I agree. I think my impression is it isn't wildly inaccurate (though I play a lot of German ships), but I don't think it is quite as accurate as the Arizona.

@@tacticangel either way I think arizona is still king. The ship is ridiculously tanky. California is too but not quite as much as Arizona. Or at least it feels that way. Maybe because California is so fat its easier to get penetrations
