Just wanted to thank you for all the vids you put up - especially the Austin 7 vids - I've picked up some tips and motivation for my own build. I'm planning the exhaust on my MG to be unequal length like yours, mainly because I'm told they sound better. That's a cracking looking car you have there - thanks again and best wishes 👍
It looks good and well made but I don't think it will be good for power. It's not just about reducing back pressure it's about resonance. Positive and negative pressure waves halp pull exhaust gas out and prevent charge from being lost out of exhaust. Each header must be a specific length and width. All lengths must be equal. You can get the equations on Google and programs that will calculate the lengths etc using valve timing etc then have them go into 1 or 2 pipes etc. You can buy the 4 into 1 universal pieces. You could just measure an aftermarket one.? I noticed that you have used a motorcycle type carb, good choice. Be interesting to do some testing of exhaust systems, I don't know how 7 engines react to exhausts but I find it easy to make an engine feel flat.
that's all true Peter ...but they didn't really know that in 1932 and 'equal length bunch of bananas' headers are banned in vintage motorsport in the UK!
