Wow that's a long review, my bad. Anyway, this shows the Xbox One and PC versions in action. Timestamps in the description, as well as my PC specs. Any questions, let me know!
Great review, perfect lenght. Wrc 9 is a amazing game , too bad codemasters got the license, kyloton were getting better from game to game. I hope wrc 10 and 11 continue to improve and that they could make a great ending to their series .
Kudos for your great review! I'm a big fan of WRC games (sony, milestone, kylotonn) even if I'm a casual player on gamepad. Personally I found WRC9 handling too sensitive (no matter the settings) and cars too light and unpredictable. WRC8 physics is not as accurate maybe, but I found cars heavier, more predictable and easier to push to the limit. 8 is still my top choice then!
I've actually visited New Zealand once and I can definitely say there are a lot of narrow roads across the country. It also has a lot of single lane bridges, which would be dangerous without proper traffic control, and even then it would still be a nuisance for visitors touring across the country. Still an interesting place to go and visit from time to time. And even though I was born Australian, I did have a late grandfather who was born in New Zealand, so I have a little bit of Kiwi in my blood.
@@K2ifer Yeah, that's kind of the issue with New Zealand roads. Australian roads are more open, but very bumpy. And that makes it unpleasant when you want to use your handheld device on long car trips.
One major thing i really appreciate in this title over Dirt Rally 2.0 is that you can get some nice throttle oversteer going on in the fast bends. I love the hell out of Dirt Rally 2.0, and you only have to watch Jon Armstrong on the game to see how good the physics are on the limit, but i just feel like there is too much understeer in the 4WD cars when you throw or brake the car into a bend then open the throttle. You only get throttle oversteer in 1st and 2nd gear corners, which is bullshit. I do love that you can basically drive the cars sideways at speed through the bends in DR2.0 with lots of practice, but the massive amounts of understeer on throttle just really annoys the shit out of me. If it wasnt for the excessive amounts of understeer on the throttle id say DR2.0 would be almost the perfect rally game.
totally agree, i was a dirt fan (casual player) and i purchased only steam games, but one day i decided to dip my toe in to the epic store game with a discount and +10 euro vaucher ... DUDE WRC 8 took me on a trip on a whole new level. Dirt rally games seem shallow somehow to me now, and lacking. I now have day 1 WRC 9 and i love it. Dont get me wrong i totally agree with you there are many bugs, and things i dont really like but this to me is the best rally game that combines a very compelling game, fun game and makes me come back daily for more :) The only thingsi miss is a more active multiplayer and a "discussions" page like on steam and review page. love the game, and recommend it fuck steam vs epic and all that, if you want to play the game just play the game ignore the "xbox vs sony" ala battle.
I'm worried what this will do to the series too. Codemasters was much less generous with content than Kylotonn and, well, EA is even worse. But maybe deeper pockets could lead to better things.
Great video, very informative and well put together. I am considering buying this game for Xbox One, I was just wondering if a keyboard would work as a button box or handbrake on the Xbox version?
Thanks for the reply. It looks like a really good game, I just don't want to spend money and then not be able to use things like a hand brake. A little more research I think on my end I think.
Nice one! I agree.., anyone who dismisses this due to some weird loyalties to another game are seriously missing out... buy both. It’s great. I enjoyed wrc8 despite some lack of connection of car to surface... but still heaps of fun. 9 improves on 8 and is still super engaging. Love it so far.
Do the puddles still send your car flying randomly like they did in WRC8? On controller it was an absolute nightmare and made me stop playing and go back to Dirt 2.0 tbh, so if they have fixed this I will probably get it on sale (due to it not being that much different than 8)
I have an Xbox 1 X and this shit made me stop playing the game! I went from top 3 to the bottom due to this bullshit and the ai doesn't suffer from that nor the rain itself..ugh
Great review!! and very detailed. The internet needs more of this. Nothing wrong in my opinion, of a long review, as long as it shows the positives and negatives with insight that actually comes from playing something more than 10 minutes.
Before I bought WRC8 I played a lot Dirt Rally. Some years ago bought a driving force gt steering wheel for this game. After a year I sold it. I return now and just wanted to play - on casual state but playing on gamepad wasn't excited. I found vjoy emulator which allows to use mouse to steering. Dirt Rally is good in my opinion but cars on gravel are very slipy and that's annoying. I don't know if it's right and realistic. WRC8 is different. Cars are more sticky to the surface. Has also more interesting tracks (more gravel ones) than Dirt Rally. Shame that WRC9 only for Epic Game Store. Instead of I bought WRC8 for 9 bucks so it's a good deal.
WRC 8 is definitely good fun, you can feel the cars in WRC 9 are more nimble and more realistic but I think WRC 8's portrayal works well too. Far, far better than Dirt in my opinion. You have to really change what feels natural to succeed and it's not quite right.
I saw that WRC 8 was on sale on the Playstation Store page, but I didn't know whether I should get that or this one instead. Maybe I could wait until this one gets a price drop? I don't know, what do you think is the right decision?
I think WRC 9 is better but if 8 is that cheap now it's a good stop-gap. 9 has next-gen features so it may not see a sale for a while, but I guess you could argue otherwise.
@@ATribeCalledCars Plus WRC9 fixed issues from WRC8 in the physics. The cars were are all over the place when you land after a jump and over the bumps too. That has been fixed in WRC9.
@@Tony-1971 Well that's good to know. I'm thinking about getting this for Christmas on PS4, simply because I don't know if I'll get the PS5 in time for the holidays and I want to be able to play the games I receive that day.
Since I missed WRC8, my question is, better to buy 9 for $80 or just pickup 8 for under $40? Note, playing on Xbox one with controller, and don’t care about online shenanigans.
I'm not sure it's worth twice the price but it is a superior rally game. Maybe wait for a sale or perhaps see if it pops up on Instant Gaming or something. I've used that site a lot, never had an issue.
Bought WRC9 based on this review and it’s terrible. No matter what settings I use I just find it really frustrating with a controller! Wish I had not bothered now and just carried on playing Dirt on my PC with a wheel.
@@ATribeCalledCars I was hoping to relive the Colin McRae rally years of a good console WRC game that’s really satisfying with a control pad, as Dirt with a wheel is a lot more involving and unforgiving. The problem I have is no matter what controller settings I use (the ones you recommend are actually default now, by the way) the car doesn’t flow like I want it to. It seems to almost perfectly 360 every time I brake, and catching tank slapped almost impossible. It almost feels like I’m playing with keyboard arrow keys at times! The fact career mode only has limited “restarts” to me makes it even more unforgiving than Dirt Rally!
@@TyredFormat I didn't know about the default sensitivity being standard, that's interesting. So when you say about a 360, you mean the car is rotating a huge amount under braking? If so, that does not sound right.
@@ATribeCalledCars Yeah, so under breaking the car will do a complete 360 quite often, which isnt exactly realistic, but always feels really edge and then just tank slaps itself into a wall or something for seemingly no changes to braking/throttle/steering. I can never seem to "Feel" the way the car is, it just feels disconnected and like the physics are all off. Recent Forza Games have had similalr issues that I've tweaked out using the settings, I figured it would be the case I use the settings you pointed out for this but went into the menu and they were already set to this! I mean part of this is I'm playing PS5 and I've never liked Playstation controlers for driving, but I have loads of games for my Series X so just desperately wanted one for the PS5! However, I dont think it's all down to that. Something just feels fundementally wrong with the way the cars drive and no amount of settings tweaks seem to fix that. I'll give it another go, maybe I need less deadzone ?
@@TyredFormat Something sounds wrong, going from Dirt to WRC can definitely take adjustment (Dirt feels off for me after playing WRC) but you should not be spinning out like this. Presumably your controller is okay for other games? If it's steering that much, I'd be inclined to reset the settings and go from there. The issue is that sensitivity sounds like it would help but maybe the maximum is still relatively low.
A Tribe Called Cars I was just wondering how you got it early. Maybe I was wrong about previewing the game before launch but that’s what I’ve heard from a lot of youtubers lately.
I have gtx 1070 , i7 8700k and 32gb ram, installed on ssd mve and I can't play even with medium settings (the same with wrc 8) without micro stutters, sometimes it is fluid but when i'm in the trees like in Montecarlo It stutter a lot, still playable but not 60frames... I'm mad because I can run assetto and F1
Weird. Hopefully drivers come out to help with optimisation, my PC struggles a bit too. Although 4K gaming is a big strain so hardly unexpected. I need a 3080 now...
@@LorenzoClara97 GTX 1080 Ti. I can't remember exactly but most at ultra for 30fps 4K, 2.5k does better with all. 60fps needs some stuff on high, medium if I want high frame-rates.
I don't think it's that bad at all, although some rallies do look worse than others. Some of the Monte Carlo rally at sunset looks fantastic and the weather effects are largely great. It's just the difference between the PC version and original Xbox is huge. Bring on the next-gen consoles.
@dreamx3mlegend I only tried briefly but it did snake a bit. I would imagine you can make it work nicely with some tweaks to the controls, just like on controller.
I'm about to buy my first rally game. Always played forza and other sims for controller. I really like that the physics are on point for this game, but the lack of cars is kind of a turn off. But the feel of racing a car is what matters most.
@@callumparker3293 sorry, it is a sim as far as physics imo. I've played assetto corsa and project cars 2, and FM7 with all assists off and sim steering is 9/10ths of a hardcore sim, but with more cars/tracks.
@@ATribeCalledCars For such a young platform, they sure have gotten into some controversies: -Getting caught copying, encrypting and uploading steam user data -Making exclusivity deals that override pre-purchases in other platforms -Tencent, a China's Comunist party endorsed company, owns 40% and pushed 2 board members into Epic -They have been hacked multiple times and the accounts have been exposed to the point that there's a running class action lawsuit against them for damages -They are non compliant with general data protection regulations (and with refund policies) They do offer better deals to publishers, but in general, steam has done way more for consumers to the point that Epic seems like a step back, even if you don't factor in the way they pose as robin hood while adopting Evil-corp tactics: -Linux Support -Indie Games, green light, multiple native controller support -Centralized save game backups in the cloud -Integrated mod support that keeps many, many games alive and kicking (stellaris is mind blowing on steam and lackluster anywhere else) Although I clearly see a vocal minority throwing a childish tantrum, I believe they just haven't found the right way to express how much epic was eroding our trust and was messing with us in each and every turn. I think that competition is a must (and I've been waiting for it since the beginning), but the way epic have been doing things makes it hard to cheer for them. TL/DR: There are people that throw temper tantrums whenever EPIC is mentioned, and this behaviour is unjustified, but most certainly not baseless. If you take away the emotional response, there is a rational reason why some people are wary and avoid it whenever possible. The competition is welcome, though, and I agree with you that this shouldn't stop people from buying games because of it... Edit: I think this is the fourth time watching this review and it has certainly helped me make my decision to buy it. It is now on my wish list! Thank you very much for an informative, unbiased review! You've earned another subscriber!
Yes! It's all bad if you buy from the (IMO) theiving nest of robbers, bigben interactive/NACON/kylotonn! (IMO) faulty goods, no return policy if they can con you out of, consumer disrespect! If you have switch, get asphalt legends instead, awesome, free and 1000 hours+ pure free!
Refunds are legally enforceable in the UK, what was faulty about the product? I'm curious. I didn't have the game on Switch but I know it has differences such as the lack of car damage.
I thought it came out as fake that codemasters would be taken over the licence for it? Also might just be me but I found dirt rally 2.0 easier than wrc 8 but really tempted to get wrc 9. Oh and the rally is rally Catalunya.
WRC 9 is more realistic, Dirt 5 is arcadey. I've not played the latter yet but I think it depends on what you want. WRC 9 is a genuinely great rally game but maybe the custom arenas and that kind of stuff is more your thing.
@@ATribeCalledCars the hit at 12:14 would of smashed the wheel well and nearly ripped the rear bumper off, at 12:29 you should see it getting almost dragged behind the car. Looks perfect.
It seems like the invisible puddles of death are still in the fucking comsole versions...this was 1 of the reasons why i stopped playing wrc 8! I couldn't drive fast on tarmac roads when it rained. My car would juke to side out of nowhere and crash into a nearby wall..shit was infuriating!! Until they fix this shit I ain't buying it because i do not like losing rallies due to shit out of my control!
