Actually, there are still parts of the US where working with, and handling cattle are a thing. (Sometimes not where you would expect.) Horse riding and roping are real working skills. Bull riding, not so much - but young folks are often drawn to risky pastimes - you can start in this sport (as an amateur) while in your teens. When I was younger, I knew a couple of those guys... IMO, you have to be a little crazy to do this. But then, driving cars fast can end badly too....
