I don't often comment. But this wrestling coach is absolutely fantastic. Clear, precise instructor for both novice and advanced alike. Gives examples, clearly defines the terms, and shows it in action. Teaching like this deserves admiration
This really helped my BJJ stand up game for both gi and no gi. It's crazy how much transitions there are from just the neck tie and underhook. Thank you so much for the video.
yeah same, i was wondering what the grips were called. I didnt know it was called a collar tie before i watched this video. Also sorry for the 9 year old reply
I've started to focus on no-gi techniques in judo. I still have the gi to work with (so does my partner, so eschewing the gi on principle would give him a big advantage), but using a no-gi methodology affords me a greater degree of control and, in some cases, surprise. In my opinion, you should definitely learn no-gi moves, even more so in gi classes so you get the best of both worlds.
@rangertmay yeah, but there ar ealot of people who never wrestled in high school watching these videos, im sure, who never had the opporitunity to learn these basic techniques.... to them, these things are great, and they are learning.
@jukcoder I would have to say I disagree, but I definitely understand what you're saying. In the situation you describe, I'd rather have the collar tie, than be my opponent who has the overhook. Controlling the neck gives you a lot of power over an opponent, and grabbing an overhook is more a defense than a position of power. If your partner pulls an overhook from your collar tie, it only limits your options. But I definitely wouldn't say it gives him the advantage. See what I'm saying?
Collar ties are great because when you're pulling them around they're too busy trying to keep their balance to bring the knee to the body. It throws off their balance while protects from knees to the ribs.
@MaskedBlazer7 hearing you makes me think i should take advantage of the judo at my college. we have two Olympic champions teaching at our college. Eric Bonti and Winston Gordan. i think i might start after my exams finish, especially since im not doing taekwondo anymore.
Just responding to how effective is the collar tie. If I try put one hand around my opponent head, he is the one who has the advantage of establishing the over hook even if I keep my arm really close to his neck and chin: he can push it with the opposite hand and then establish the over hook with the other hand I am not a wrestler or expert, but just trying to find the relevant wrestling tech to MMA and correct me if I am wrong
@ENIGMATICxFEAR That's not entirely true for 2 reasons. 1)You cant "escape" bad head-position-You must obtain good head-position. You must push your opponents head out of the way, and that will be a fight. 2)Its not a "headpush" its more of a collar-tie, whizzer, or under-hook push with good head-position. You only "headpush" to keep head-position, and an angle. With my head in your temple I'm looking at you, and your looking to the side. So I'll push into you and you'll push off to the side
sumbmissions 101 can you make a video justbassicly on slamming or takedowns but i wuld like slamming if you can cause i jus finish doin a tournament all the slams i ussaly did were called as illegal so i need to improve my technique for my school season comes up
