Three buddies of mine were at the airport with me and in their uniforms. They kept turning around and staring at Rick and pointing at him. When Rick started wrestling in Nashville back in the 80’s he was dating a friend of mines mom. We were probably in 7th or 8th grade. My friend wasn’t a wrestling fan so he really didn’t know who Ric rude was. I walked into the apartment and his mom introduced me to Rick. I almost fell on the floor I couldn’t believe it was him. That doesn't work - you don't drop the belt to your strongest heel if you know that it's just in transition. Same with faces - if you're going to transfer the belt from one face to another (and it's not a business issue like Hogan leaving) then you drop the belt to someone weak (sheik) so that it can make its way to another face without damaging the guy who dropped it.

Yeah, Minnesota produced Gene and Ole Anderson, Bob Backlund, Jim Brunzell, Paul Ellering, Mean Mike Enos and Ric Flair - sorry North Carolina but it’s true. In addition Minnesota gave us NCAA champ and Olympic alternate Verne Gagne, his son Greg, Larry (the Axe or Pretty-boy) Hennig, his “Perfect” son Curt, Molly Holly and the jobber who Harley Race called “best overall talent in wrestling” Kenny Jay. We must then include Nikita Koloff, Stan “Krusher” Kowalski, Lacey, Lenny Lane, Blackjack Lanza (the original), Brock Lesnar by way of South Dakota, Bronco Nagurski by way of Ontario, John Nord, Scott Norton and the Pan American gold medalist and the 1976/1980 Olympian Brad Rheingans. We round out the Minnesota list with Road Warriors Hawk and Animal, Rick Rude (obviously), Smash, its former Governor Jesse “the Body “Ventura, Sean “X-Pac” Waltman, Janet Wolfe, Tom Zenk and unfortunately Buck Zumhofe. I should note that there were more to mention from the Wikipedia page I used. But I included just the ones I had heard of. With the exception of Lacey and Janet Wolfe, otherwise Molly Holly would be the lone female. And darn it I really wanted to claim Joe Stetcher. He was one of the greatest shooters in Pro Wrestling history, but he only retired to Minnesota where his brother Tony (also a Wrestler) ran a territory. They were originally from Nebraska. Furthermore if I included Wrestlers trained in Minnesota by Verne Gagne and Eddie Sharkey, it would include Ricky Steamboat, Madussa, The Iron Sheik and…okay I’ve done enough, Google it!

One of my favorite Ric Rude matches was at the very first Royal Rumble. He opened the telecast with a bout with Ricky Steamboat. The movement in the match was phenomenal and you had Jesse the Body on the commentary and right in the middle of all the up tempo action Rude stops to pose and flex. Hilarious spots. Even in the ring announcement when he was introduced. Howard Finkel, god rest his soul he just passed, when he introduced Rude, Rude would step to the middle and shove Finkel to the side and do his shake. Hilarious stuff. Weed is a fantastic drug for the really intense type. I'm more chill these days so I really don't need it, but I'd literally roll a blunt and hand it to anyone struggling with anxiety, insomnia, over intensity, etc... It really can level you out

Is no one going to mention Honky Tonk's comments about Rick's death? What a piece of sh*t! Rick was a fellow wrestler with a young family, a legend in the game and he goes and spits on the man's memory in such a fashion. I'll never respect Honky Tonk again after that performance, what a scumbag.

When I was a kid I would watch WWF and saw this shredded Tom Selleck looking dude who was cocky af and would pick chicks out of the audience, then makeout with them. Rude was the reason that I started working out and began acting more confident with girls. I'm now in my 40s in great shape and date women in their 20s. RIP to a legend and a true inspiration.

Snatched the goalie stick so Rick wouldn't get hurt OR Snatched the goalie stick so Rick could land more blows haha. It's a bit like Wrestlemania 8 when the road agents come to the ring to hold Savage back from Flair but essentially they're pinning Savage down and inadvertently helping Flair and Perfect land blows.

As a 3-4 year old in the late 80s. My Parents said i wasn't interested in the face characters in WWF. I only liked the heels and Rick Rude was my favourite. I still get shit 30 years later because at the time i pronounced it "Wick Wude" and a nickname came about that i still get called today more then my real name.

Hannibal. I would love to know from Larry about the Sheastadium Bruno Match. At the end Larry goes to shake Brunos hand as to Work a All is good and your the real Living Legend. When Bruno at first seems to shot hit him a Stiff shot. Was this a whole thought out part of thier work? Was there anything to Bruno's stiff shot? I understand Larry looked up to Bruno and its seems to have been reported Bruno helped Larry from his start and thru out his Working time in the Biz. Thanks.

Thanks I will. I trained with Chris and Lance in 1990 hart bros or should I say Ed Langley and Brad Young with a Cameo of Keith Hart from time to time. I loved it but had family needs which drew me away. I must say your story of Survial and reinventing yourself is inspirational. Keep up the great work. I also saw the Hogan 25% of house shows and Bruce Prichard had mentioned on avg 25% of house shows cover the employee costs Ring Crew Reffs Annoucers and in Ring Talent with them on a Scoring depending on placement on Card. Seems like this would have really effected that theory?? But no one can argue the increse of Money brought into any promotion with Hogan on the Roster. Lol I should tell you about the Time I joke with Hogan about protecting him in the SaddleDome Calagary. Cheers!
