In this video we continue developing our duct riser within the chase. Since this duct is connecting the second floor, first floor, and basement, the size depends on the amount of airflow (cfm) at each level. There are two ways to determine the proper size. One by verifying the velocities (fpm) and the other option is by friction rate of 0.08/0.1 inwg. Wrightsoft does its analysis based on velocities which depends on each home builder or the architect. Each company has their own Standard Operating Procedures. Usually in the field, the contractor or HVAC design engineer resorts to the use of a ductulator. In future videos we will show how to download a free version of this tool.
