Great video, great tips! I wish there would be more content like that for my university’s requirements for their essays. Good luck for all the TUM-essay-writers :)
Hi Markus, I will apply to the chemistry bachelor program and I already finished my essay. Strangely enough, your essay may only consist of one page at max (I used times new roman 11 since it was a bit too "long" but I didn't want to leave out vital examples) and, at least how I understood it, it will not be graded or relevant in the first stage of the Studienorientierungsverfahren (from what I've understood, I will automatically be accepted in the first stage because of my grades). I personally didn't include sources (I mainly relied on a book from oxford press and knowledged I acquiered during my freetime) since we could write about something we already covered at school and I didn't know how to incorporate sources if the source should basically be your schoolwork (it wasn't exactly the case for me but still). Would you suggest that I still try to add some sources or should I leave it as it is? => Update: I got accepted 🎉
Haha. Unfortunately that is so long ago... 😅 I don't know too much how to write it. My guess would be to state why you are suited and why you want to do the program. :)
Hey, I wanted to join the discord link, but it seems its already expired? I just had one question, is it better to focus on only 1 topics for the current relvant study or is it okay to focus on maybe 2 differents topics? For example when talking about otters one current study about otters and their habitats and the other current study about otters and their food, maybe possible to connect these two studies?
Hello :) thank you very much for this video, helped me a lot to calm a bit and structure the work more! I have a question due to finding guidelines for essays at different faculties (namely architecture - for the Urbanistik Programme). There is unfortunately very little information/guidance given on the website. → Basicaly: "ein in englischer oder deutscher Sprache nach wissenschaftlichen Standards abgefasster Aufsatz von mindestens 3000 Zeichen zu einem urbanistischen Thema; oder ein in englischer oder deutscher Sprache nach wissenschaftlichen Standards abgefasstes Exposé von mindestens 3000 Zeichen zu einer eigens gewählten urbanistischen Fragestellung" = citation from the Description of the Aptitude Assessment and nothing more to find :/ I understand it so, that topic is very much up to us to choose and the writing standart is probably expected similar to the one you showed us in the video (Times New Roman, font 12 size,..) Would you say it is safe to think about it this way or should i rather try to contact someone for further informations?
Hey! :) I am pretty sure that it is the way you just said, but ob the other hand an Email takes only 1 Minute to write, so.... :D just ask them ;)) But I understand it the way you explained it :)
Hi Markus, Thanks for the very informative video. I have a question: While writing an essay, do I need to follow all necessary steps, including the data collection and analysis procedures, similar to a formal research paper or thesis?
Hello Markus, thank you for this piece. Is it a no no to ever cite from relevant blogs or online articles? Secondly, do tables count for words in the essay? Thank you.
Hey! :) I mean if it is very relevant and you cannot find the information otherwise it should be okay if the website seems legit. And I am not sure about tables unfortunately... Good luck! :)
Hey Markus, thanks a lot for this video. Although I finished my essay before this video was out, it was still really helpful and clarified many things. Can you please clarify one more thing: Are the admissions for the MiM program on a rolling basis. If yes, how long does it take to get an admission decision after the date of application submission? I am asking this since I am clearing the cutoff in stage 1 itself and my esaay won't supposed be evaluated except plagiarism check.
Hi Markus Thank you so much, this was very helpful :) , I was wondering about the abstract and table of contents, if they are mentioned in the instructions do I have to use it? I think for such a short essay it takes so much space: Language: English o Style: Essay / Paper, please base your work on an appropriate number of scientific sources and include a bibliography o Quoting style: your choice, please use one quoting style consistently o Font: Times New Roman o Font Size: 12 o Word count: max. 2000 words o Essay length: maximum 8 pages (including cover page, figures, table of contents and bibliography) o Margins: 2 cm o Line spacing: 1.5
@@markus_rut I have another question please, in the instructions it says Max 2000 words, but it also says Max 8 Pages, right now I have less than the max words and have just enough left for the conclusion, however with the cover page and references it shows 10 pages. Here, which rule stands?, the Max number of words (which I am following), or the max number of pages?
Hi, thank you for your video, I wanted to know: 1) do you think that an abstract is necessary? 2) do you think it is useful to add all the additional sources to gain an initial knowledge about a certain topic, for example TED speeches, youtube videos or podcasts? Thank you so much
@@markus_rut Thank you, and do you think that I can copy and past a graph from another source if I am practically unable to access the raw data and create the graph by myself?
Hii. Unfortunately, I watched this video AFTER submitting my essay. I am nervous I won't pass the plagiarism check. I did cite all the sources and did not use any paraphrasing software.
I was a bit confused how to structure my essay, they require discussion from companies and customer perspective, and also from technical, economic and social perspective. What will be your approach in this case?
I am not applying so I am not very deep in this context, but from a first glance, I personally would structure it in tech, econ and social perspectives and then include Information from both comoanies and customers in each of these fields, but that would just my spontaneous answer :)
Sir, I am from india studying in 2nd year of bachelor of computer applications. It is a 3-year program, consisting of 120 credits. A masters at TUM requires 140 credits in a 3-year program. How can i cover those 20 credits? Is there any solution for this....
Hey, for Master in Management program, the maximum points for essay are 40. How much on average do students score for their essay. I need a minimum of 20 points given my GPA.
Nope. Not for TUM in general. It depends on the program you choose. On the website of the program you want to pursue you can find the details about which documents are required for application.
