When I read Franklin to my daughter, she said, "Mommy, this book has everything you love: books, tea, and creme brulee!" It's a beautiful story. Thank you for doing this video. It was very interesting to learn more about the process of creating a picture book.
Thanks for this video and Katie for showing us the working sketches! I giggled at the one with Franklin & Luna wearing sunglasses and having a picnic under the sun, definitely didn't expect that I was under the impression all the story telling and meetings between them were somehow in the night sky. Too cute!
I preordered the book a while ago and this week it came to me (to Germany actually) an it is absolutely beautiful and magic and just wonderful. Thank you both so much for this treasure!
Wonderful! So lovely to see an insight into your process. I'm independently publishing my second picture book & writing a novel for 8-12 year olds at the moment & it's really inspiring to hear tales of your various, diverse, creative pursuits. Thank you!
I really like what you said about kids enjoying words that are difficult for them from time to time, Jen. That's so true! And after all, that's how they broaden their vocabulary :) The book looks and sounds gorgeous, you two did a wonderful job!
This video was amazing! Hope to get Franklin as soon as I can. It looks so charming and the art is beautiful. Jen, could you please do more videos on writing children's books? I would love to hear some tips.
I loved this! Especially the sneaky peaks inside Katie's studio. Also, I thought you'd fallen into an alternate version of your dining room Jen, with the lovely crockery and pretty tablecloth!
This was delightful, and so interesting because my awful drawing skills have always put me off writing a picture book. Excellent to learn a bit more about how it all works! :) xx
This was so lovely! I definitely want to pick this book up as soon as I can afford to do so. I loved to hear about your process and how writing and illustration comes together. Definitely agree with the importance of inclusivity and non-stereotypes in children's books!
It seems your book isn't available on Amazon in America until Oct. 17, 2017. Wonderful behind the scenes look at how authors and illustrators work together. Thanks for sharing!
+Teresa White yes, that's right - UK edition is available on Book depository with free international shipping but US edition release date is 17th October. Details in description :) x
Love this Jen! 2017 has been an incredible writing year for you. I raced through The beginning of the World in the middle of the night as well! Prepping a video review of them, needless to say that it's going to be a good review 😉📚❤️ Xx
Hi there! I’m so grateful to have found your channel and truly love this book. I’ve written a children’s book and I’m struggling to decide to self publish or go through the query process. What are your thoughts?
You're asking someone who is traditionally published, so my advice is what I have experience in: try to find an agent. I have a series of videos on the publishing industry, including a conversation with my agent, which you can find here: ru-vid.com/group/PLlRIaAzTjWi6RYiZBruyu0sPjgsSM8MKp I also offer editorial services, including help on writing cover letters for agents. Details are here. www.jen-campbell.co.uk/editorial Good luck!
Great video. Very informative. Please tell me - how many pages do I need / can do for a children's book with pictures, both for digital and for paper? If I basically want to make them digital, but if necessary, I could print it in a print shop.
@@jenvcampbell TU very match. And all those 32 are The story? (Sorry - I use Google translator) Can I get the audacity and ask you to do a review on this topic? How many pages are in children's books with pictures, why, which pages are for the author and which are for the publisher? Their sizes?
@@lex_yol No, it's the total number of pages (endpapers, titles etc etc). If you want more information, you can hire me here: www.jen-campbell.co.uk/editorial
Your book is adorable with great art! however, the illustrator kinda threw me off cuz she seemed spaced out and i didn't like her answers, LOL. But the book is great.
