I’ve been having… such a god awful horrendous nightmare of an experience learning how to utilize midi drum kits and make them sound natural. YSAP you not only solved my midlife crisis, but you are also the funniest man I’ve ever witnessed. 🎉

When I have to use drum machines I like to record them on analog tape along with the bass and guitars. All the great drums sounds we have ever heard have been recorded this way, and the tape adds it’s own limiting, compression, and eq due to the physical nature of magnetic tape and the way it responds when saturated with sounds. In a perfect studio I sync the analog 24 track with the rhythm tracks to a digital 32 track for the orchestra, voices, and acoustic instruments. Synthesizers really don’t need to be put on tape until the mixing stage since you can have them played by a computer synced to the track.
