Met him at an airport in Phoenix AZ he had just done a radio promo for his stint with Queen. I spotted him as we were on escalators. I said hey Paul how are you doing. He gave me a head nod and said not bad. Than the look of oh no he knows who I am. I walked up to him shook his hand told him I am a huge fan and what a thrill it is to meet him. As he started to turn and walk away I said can I buy you a beer, my flight is delayed he stop and said yeah mine too. Sat with him in the airport bar just two guys talking about things and enjoying music stories. What a really nice guy. As he got up to go catch his flight he said this was very cool to hang out with a fan like you. We talked about this song and many others. I hope he gets the nod to be in the in the RnR Hall. Plus he is one amazing guitarist too.
When you reminded Me that Paul Rogers wasn't in the HOF, I shook my head and sighed. Then You spoke something so true. " They Don't Deserve Him. " That put a smile on my face, and had me throwing up the horns. One of my favorite channels to watch. Thanks, Professor. 🤘🤘
I am 60 but I can remember exactly where I was when I first heard the song “Feel Like Making Love” by Bad Company. I saved babysitting money for a month so I can buy the album. Paul Rogers has an amazing voice. So soulful and full of emotion.
Paul Rodgers seems like such a decent, down to earth guy. Thank you, Adam, for another great interview! Looking forward to an episode about the song “Bad Company” as it’s one of my favorites.
First time I heard anything by Bad Company, and I heard Rodgers' voice ... I knew I was listening to something special. And it is a travesty that he is not in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Really enjoyed this interview.... TY!
It's all political crap by the people who run it. Chicago was only inducted a few years ago. I mean... come on! The Red Hot Chili Peppers are before ROCK greats? Um, no. LMAO
Paul Rodgers is a legend in his own right. Screw the RRHF. They don't deserve him. I was huge Free fan in my teens, mostly because of Paul's vocals, but also because they had a very unique sound. When everybody was playing Precisions and Jazz Basses, Andy came up with that Gibson SG midrangey sound that jived so well with Simon's kick. And Kos was a phenomenal guitarist. Those vibratos he pulled on certain notes. Even Clapton couldn't figure out how he did them. I'm so glad Paul is still around and rockin'.
Rodgers is basically GOD. Big Free fan too. Give me "Fire and Water" (what a song AND album) or anything else he's done. He is brilliant in all ways! The whole idiocy of the RRHF makes me laugh. Paul towers over that ridiculous "institution".
Coming from a 62 yr old male singer. I can say with absolutely no hesitation that Paul Rogers had had a huge influence on my style. He is by far an amazing rock singer and certainly number one in my world. Thanks to Paul for his contribution to great rock and roll !!
How cool to interview Paul! He still has fantastic rock pipes. No easy feat at his age and given what he's been through health-wise. His live shows with Queen a few years ago were off the charts great. HIs wife Cynthia was a former Miss Canada, and she and Paul (who's become a proud Canadian) have resided in BC for many years. Great segment. Thanks, Adam!
@@ProfessorofRock He guested on Toronto's Q107 a few years ago with Cynthia and here's the story on how they met: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-j6LaSV8F_ZI.html
Paul F in Rodgers! Oh man, what an interview! Thank you Prof! I’m 62 now so that man’s voice, for me, was like a gift-the ultimate rocknroll voice! Free! Bad Co! Just…no words to describe how his songs made us feel! Thank you Paul!
So, So glad to finally hear this guy is getting the respect he is obviously due. I'm a classic rock guy and been following Paul since "Free". You can count on one hand the voices that can compete with this LEGEND.
What a great interview. He is such a humble, endearing person I could sit and listen to him all night. And that these songs and groups are from my musical formative years doesn't hurt any either. Thanks much for this episode.
I'm not surprised he's such a great influence on many singers to come after him. Not just a great voice, but a great stage presence as well! The best!!😎👍
@xxlilly_playsxxkiz9980 I was lucky enough to see them with Paul Roger's in the 70s, then I got to see them with Brian Howe singing in the early 90s. They were AWESOME both times! I recommend getting the DVD " Bad Company in Concert Merchant's of Cool." You won't be disappointed!!😎👍
What a great singer and man Paul is. So humble and genuine. Free and Bad Company have always been on the top of my playlist. So far this is my favorite interview you've done. Looking forward to a lot more with Paul.
Paul Rodgers not being in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame is like if Wayne Gretzky wasn't in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Not only a legendary rock vocalist, but a genuine classy gentleman. His history, singing, songwriting and songs speak volumes (no pun intended). He is a truly a class act.
Like a great painter that doesn't need to fill every inch of the canvas, Paul Rogers instinctively knows when to sing, fill in, and when to let the silence speak for him. Quality of voice unmatched.
I saw Paul Rogers a few years ago on the Free Spirit tour. I think he was 69 at the time and, hands down, he is the most marvellous singer I’ve ever heard. I can only imagine how phenomenal he must have been as a younger man.
I can still remember the chills I got when i heard the first notes of "All Right Now" in a bar. I'd throw myself on the dance floor ASAP, single or with a partner, I didn't care. I was wild for rock n roll dancing. It was probably the best years to be young in the early '70's when all the greatest rock was new and fresh. Nobody chilled like Paul Rogers, nobody.
I remember a time in the early 80s, that my boyfriend and I would load up the Chevy van and go somewhere camping. We never left the house without Bad Company, Foreigner and Journey. They were the staples and we had others. But those were my faves and even today, their songs take me back to that time, simple times, happy times.
Wow. Every time 2 people meet and fall in love it's a brand new story and a brand new song. Unlimited material. Simple but genius imo. I love to hear about Legends influences. Truly a legend. Top shelf segment and interview Adam! Bravo 👏👏.
He now lives in our neck of the woods here in British Columbia up in Kelowna on the lake. He has had Robert Plant up here a couple of times…along with others from the great days of rock and roll. He even drops in at the odd karaoke bar locally from time to time…without necessarily letting on anything about his background…while people at his table smile from ear to ear. He truly is awesome…
That is ridiculous that he is not in the hall of fame - more so when you consider some of the names that have made it in there. His voice is so good, he stands head and shoulders above most mere mortals.
The Firm’s version of “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling” to me is the absolute best rendition ever… because of Paul Rodgers’ vocal. And this is from a huge Hall & Oates fan girl!
I love Paul R so much. I’ve seen him live quite a few times. Truly one of the all time best rock singers of all time. Love this piece, great interview yet again!!
Paul Rodgers is the best. The RRHF should not be a measure of one’s footprint on music. There are way too many folks in there that do not belong. Keep on singing Paul! Great Interview.
Wow, he wrote the greatest rock song in history at only 17!! That's mindblowing! This is the song that for decades any time I hear it, time stops, the volume gets turned up, and I just get lost in it. Paul Rodgers is freaking amazing!
All right now was our covers band signature song our first year. I am so pleased and amazed so many people, and great ones, respect and appreciate Rodgers...it felt to me like few understood, at the time, his textured, beautiful, as someone said, perfect rock voice. Ty for the video, and the comments.
I turned 16 early in the summer of 1970, and I swear, I spent every single day of the summer at my best friend's house because his family had an outdoor 30 foot long pool! While laying out between swims one sunny day, the song "All Right Now" came on and I was truly amazed at how much I loved it, but even more at how mind blowing the lead singer's voice was! I didn't know his name but I immediately got up and yelled to my friends, about 6 of them, that his voice was the best rock voice on earth! That was saying a lot, considering just a year earlier I had heard Robert Plant's voice for the first time. I have loved "All Right Now" ever since and have never grown tired of hearing it on the radio. It's true, over the years the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has dropped the ball when it came to failing to induct so many performers who deserve to be there. It wouldn't surprise me that if you were to look up the word "clueless" in the dictionary, you'd see the photos of every Rock and Roll Hall of Fame voter who failed to have their minds blown by the amazing voice of Paul Rogers! Who knows, maybe they took the first word of the title they held as a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame voters too literally and thought it meant they should be living under a ROCK!
Holy Shit you got Paul!!! The southern rock & metal template, inspired Ronnie Van Zandt , and as Rickey Medlocke said, “It all comes back to Paul Rogers”!! Cant wait to listen to the full interview with The Great One. Awesome as always Prof!!
I grew up on B .C. and Free ! Some of my best memories are in that era of music. He is for sure one of the greatest vocalist's of all time. Wakin down this rocky road ....
I became a fan of Bad Company and especially Paul’s voice in 1977. I bought all of their albums! I started playing guitar writing songs of my own… it’s funny you mentioned Elvis because he inspired me as a child to be a musician and Paul kept that spark alive in my teenage years! Paul & Lou Gramm from foreigner were my two favorite vocalists of the seventies
All Right Now... my favorite song of all time. I remember where I was, what I was doing, how old I was and the date when I heard the first few cords of that song. Amazing.
Fun interview. Paul is great. Hall of fame, No hall of fame... it matters not. He does not need their stamp. He has tens of millions of who have grooved on his songs for decades. What else matters?
Wow! The classic of all classics! Still remains a timeless gem! Love this interview w/ the amazing PR!! The highlight of the 70's!! Thank you Professor!!❤
Such a humble guy . Paul is the voice for sure. Free is such a great band. Fire and water album is a superb album.looking forward to get his new album.
One of my favorite performers! His voice is phenomenal, and he’s a helluva piano player. I adore Paul! Thanks again, Professor…. You keep on bringing it!! ❤❤
Cannot argue with Paul Rodgers and that voice. Recently saw them in a concert at Red Rocks on TV, has not lost a single step. Always would start with Alright Now and go from there...
So many front men and singers in rock bands in the hall were fans of Paul Rodgers. From Freddy Mercury to John Mellencamp to Ronnie Van Zandt and on and on.
What a set of pipes! Bluesy , soulful and great range. A real travesty that Bad Company aren't in the RNRHOF. Their run of albums in the 70s was astonishingly good. Terrific interview with a humble down to earth man.
Bad Company defined my growing up, my teens. I play it all the time now! I love putting in the car and turning it up and driving and singing Bad Company was awesome.
@@freiherrdinkelackerthey claim influencers can be part..country influenced rock...whitney houston isnt rock either..the hall of fame is for commercial music..
Another great interview Adam! A good friend of mine was a sound man for some really big acts in Cleveland and Pittsburgh and other venues and I asked him what was best act you ever did? He told me bar none was Paul Rogers! He said Paul was not there for the sound check in the afternoon and he came to evening show with absolutely no warm up and knocked it out of the park from the first note! NOW THATS A VOICE!!! Thanks again.
A little R&R trivia...Free with Paul Rogers was Ronnie Van Zants biggest influence. They had a huge impact on Lynard Skynard, even more than the Allman Brothers and the Rolling Stones.
Great, he's still around and still seems young at heart. Much respect for all he's done for music. Not sure what he was going for, but that new album cover looks like a set of balls.
Paul Rodger’s was unbelievable in Free for someone so young . For me, his greatest vocal achievement since then was on the Muddy Water Blues album. He’s got such an amazing blues voice.
I love Paul Rodgers! I saw him with Jimmy as the Firm. I skipped my junior prom to see that concert, one of the best shows ever! Truly a legend that deserves all of the accolades.
My first introduction to Paul was as a child in Ohio staying up late on the weekends watching "Midnight Special" and "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert" shows. I saw Bad Company doing a live version of "I Can't Get Enough of Your Love" and I was hooked. The song, the vocals, the two-guitar solo! Who were these guys? For years I grew with them, but we had no Internet so I did not know that some of the songs that I loved were actually "Free" tunes, I just knew Paul's groove and voice. As I became a musician I came to realize how truly spectacular Paul was and is to this day. I enjoyed his stint with Queen a lot, and in his 70's his voice is still very powerful and identifiable. I have not seen him in a while, so this interview was extremely satisfying. Thank you, Adam, for making this happen!
Paul Rodgers is the voice of blues rock for my generation from the 60's and 70's. It's been told that Ronnie Van Zant was a big fan of Paul and Free. The so-called Rock HoF is a joke. As always, thanks Adam for another great interview. You are becoming a legend for your articulate and knowledgeable interviews with some of the all-time greats. Keep up the good work.
Great interview with a legendary singer/songwriter/performer! I was 16 when All Right Now dropped and I had never heard singer like Paul Rodgers before. When he formed Bad Company I devoured all 3 albums! Wore them out! Paul Rodgers has always been one of my favorite singers! I can't wait to listen to his new work! Great to see him doing well!
Another song that fell out of the sky I have a copy of this on 45 I don't think I can add any more superlatives. Paul Rogers still looks Great and to have a new album out I must give it a listen. To have so many Great Artists giving him the accolade as the REAL DEAL is incredible
It’s one thing to say so and so is the greatest. But in Paul’s case it’s an absolute fact. His voice has guided, comforted and inspired me since 1971 when I first heard Fire and Water. All the best Paul ❤
Paul is so sweet and talented! I’ve first knew of him when he recorded a live album with Queen. That album helped me to rediscover my love for Queen which I had as a kid but kinda faded away in my teens. And also the renditions of Free and Bad Company tracks by Queen+PR are so freaking good. That was a real super-group act
I saw Paul Rogers front Queen in 2005. Then with Bad Company in 2007. When they played Shooting Star, I was 3 rows from the stage. Paul could hear me singing the 5th above his lead. He pointed at me and said; "You're really Fing good!". Never got to meet the man, but I love that guy.
OMG this was one of my favorite things to watch in the world! I'm 53 and this transported me back. I'm speechless. I can't thank Paul Rogers enough for sharing his gift. I'm going to go binge on his stuff and get back to you with my answers. I am profoundly impacted by this unexpected time capsule. First day watching subbed and liked, Love.
It took one listen to Free's first LP and I was telling every musician I knew that this man sounds like no one else and 50 years later we are all in agreement. In 1974 I worked at S.I.R. on Sunset and in came Bad Co.. The band was so tight but it was Paul I was stuck on and just listening to his warm ups was amazing. Thank you for showcasing a great talent Prof.! I will now go count the rings on my tail!
I think you said it best when you said the HOF doesn’t deserve him! I remember when Bad Co was released (the album) I was honestly confused because I thought it was a greatest hits even though I knew it was a debut album! It was like I knew every song and loved them already! Very hard to explain, and I still trip about that.
Saw him a couple yrs ago… couldnt believe how he sounds as great now as he did 40 yrs ago! All the other “old” singers cant get close to the notes they used to hit. Paul opens his mouth and it comes out as strong as when he was in his 20’s! Amazing gifted singer and talent! In my opinion the Best!
Paul has always been one of my heroes in music, an unbelievable voice and an underrated songwriter, too. There aren’t enough superlatives in the English language for Paul Rodgers. He was born to sing.
That voice makes me go weak in the knees. Looks fantastic! You are right Prof, RRHF doesn’t deserve him. What a great outlook on life, I could listen to him talk for hours. Great song, songs. Can’t keep a good man down. ❤
