It's mostly athleticism at the very top. If you put Amy against a top 20, you will notice Amy won't look good, but that's not because her strokes are bad, as obviously she there's nothing wrong with her technique. The difference is top 20 players can move faster, rushing her, and when you're rushed, your strokes break down. That's why the key to moving up is to be faster. Even Federer said that the key to his dominance was foot speed, as before that he was still losing to Hewitt and Nalbandian. He said that once he could get to the ball in time, he would have more options vs being rushed and could barely reach the ball.
Amy’s strokes are awesome. Amazing to see how she overpowers Winston, who’s a strong recreational player. I also like her friendly and levelheaded demeanor.
Winston, your backhand was holding up quite well in many of these rallies. I'm assuming her flattish, lowish type of ball may have helped you get into a rhythm, but still... pretty solid! In fact, to me the BH here almost looks like a sounder shot than the FH, at least from a purely mechanical standpoint.
Winston your best gameplan was to pull her to the net with a short ball and utilize your great passing shots! As I said in the previous video, Amy's serve world-class! It overshadows her groundstrokes which are really great also.
@@denissava2475someone doesn’t have to be Zverev lol, you Americans hahahaha, I just came home from Cordenons where there’s a W60 ITF, I’ve seen people better than her playing and yes they’re good, but you can get games off them or even sets it’s not that they are impossible to beat lol
you guys keep saying this since 2022 lol, he's identical, got maybe a bit better, but with this much videoanalysis (he watches himself play every video) how can you not correct that serve? is he restarted?
Serve needs improvement. Forehand is a bit good but can't put away balls with it yet. Net play and feel is below average. These are the things he needs to improve upon to be a legit 5.0, otherwise he has no plan B and will be stuck at 4.5
@@stanleyextra2812 No way is he a 5.0. He doesn't have the game to dominate opponents. The lack of net game and a plan B will make him vulnerable, though he's good from the baseline
Wow, Amy was crazy strong, but this is probably the best you've ever played on the channel. She is a beast and you managed to stay in the long rallies with great groundstrokes. Also, your return of serve and your backhand in general have improved greatly. Good stuff.
I am 1:32 into this video. I have no doubt that Winston, as awesome as he is, is going to get smoked. His shots are all landing midway between the net and service line. Amy's are just flying off the racket.
Okay Winston - finished your set. You competed well but there’s a reason she’s a pro haha. Back in my day, I used to play against a UCLA #6 and she would smoke me most of the time. I can only imagine what playing Amy felt like!!
Can't say enough about Amy. Just awesome...but Winston...man...I'm starting to see some serious lights shining through you man! Very impressive with some of your decisions and power strokes! Go for it more ma man!!! Cheers as always and loving the content. M
Nice to see a vid with a female who’s ranked at the time of the match instead of having to do all this math in your head like “well she used to be ranked 653 back in 2018” or some crap.
hey winston, been subscribed to your channel for a few years now and its great. it is clear your game has improved immensely with one exception: your serve. I dont know what it is really, not sure how many hours a week you dedicate to improving it(neither i know if you're concerned about it) , but it is easy for others to hurt you, especially the second serve.
Amy is such an amazing player, so fast and such clean strokes. Winston was actually playing really well. These passing shots were amazing. I also really like the attempts to go to the net, I see a lot of potential there.
Winston great match to watch. One thing that would be great to see if possible is serve speed. So hard to tell on video but would add another element to the various levels of tennis you show on your channel.
Might just be me but I feel like you can notice his late prep/footwork a lot in this vid - several shots returned late and not at a good contact point (not talking about when she hit winners) Edit: that fake out at 7:32 though! nice haha
Amy got a fully pro package on her , her serve , her forehand and backhand are beautiful, no doubt she will be in top 20 very soon , I just sign up to this and I really like it so far , thanks Winston keep it up
When I play someone clearly out of my league, I would go all out, aggressive but not total abandonment. Winston did that but only near the end. He should have done that from the beginning. I remember Lendl saying his coach Tony Roach telling him when in doubt, play agressive. Obviously when you play someone out of your league, that's the most doubt you'd ever have, so why not play very aggressively.
Winston hits it great for an amateur but she has a different level of mechanics. The whole body turn through the ball, the right leg flying around through impact, and all the lag and whip in her arm and wrist. It's insane.
I know that Winston is standing closer to the camera during the pre and post match interviews so it makes him look larger than Amy. But once the match started I was kinda startled to see how much more physically imposing Amy was compared to Winston. And Winston is not a 98 # weakling. She won’t be relegated to playing a retriever type game on tour. 😮
Amy is the great baseline player. If she would not hesitate to go quickly inside and attack soft balls (lot of WTA pros have same problem ) - she would be on even better level.
Amy has huge groundies. Very short back swing on the forehand. Impress how she hits the forehand so hard with that short back swing. I think once she gets better at finishing points at the net with volley, then she'll raise up the wta rankings.
Women generally love pace and are rhythm players so mixing up the spins, height, and ball speed against them is a good tactic. Giving them consistent pace however, will ruin your weekend.
During the intros I was like...Amy looks like a really tall 14 year old. Winston is going to smoke her. Saw her first serve....then her first forehand....and immediately realized I was very wrong lol.
She is a great player so is Winston. Winston, you need to work on your reaction time to the ball when your opponent strikes. You are getting to the ball way too late and are moving way too slow. Focus on fast twitch muscle movement, split step, and exploding to the ball. The view from behind looks like you're moving like a heavy boat and you can hear your feet clunking on the court. Your movement is way too heavy. If you focus on making this better your will be such an amazing tennis player!
hey just saying it would be REALLY interesting to have these wta pros and college girl players to play the college guys and atp pros. The girls just always seem to play each other or you.
Once again Winston you cannot beat this type of player only hitting one type of ball. You need to change it up, drop shots, underhand serves, slices that stay so low and bite.
While it is nice that you get to play against top-level opponents, it would be more beneficial to watch some videos of you playing against players at your level... Watching you getting bageled or breadsticked by obviously much better players isn't helpful or particularly engaging IMO. Also from a mental perspective - you are fully relaxed, knowing that even if you manage to win a single game is pretty good already, so essentially you have zero pressure. Playing against more 4.5 level players, or against arguably weaker opponents, would put your mindset in an entirely different place.
I love Winston but I don’t think he’s more of a USTA 4.0 player. Playing USTA 4.5 matches do not look like how Winston plays. Definitely is able to get to 4.5, unless he is winning matches and I just do not know his ranking is going up?
I played the video at .25x speed to watch her forehand versus yours. And she has a lot more rotation and lag than you do giving her huge amounts of power.
She also has great weight transfer into her shots. Winston is often on his back foot or jumping straight up off one foot which can rob him of pace and depth.
@@utetennisfan5458 I've seen pros call out balls that were 6 inches in on baseline scrabbles. Look at the vid again - Amy is not looking at the baseline as the ball bounces. Peripheral vision. I've slowed it down and also freeze framed the moment of contact. Regardless she is an amazing player :)
I've been following your channel for a few months, It seems like you rarely win, cause you always played against higher levels. Do you feel bad about this? Should I be concerned about your mental state, dude?
