That was the same opening theme used by several stations which used the "Action News" format in the 1970s. I believe a station in Phoenix also used this variation of Mason Williams' "Classical Gas."
You're right, this is the Telesound version of Classical Gas, which was originally done by Dolphin Productions, before it was brought out by Image West. WFTV, in Orlando, and WBAL in Baltimore used the same theme but different packaging.
