Commercials, news updates, and legal ID's recorded off channel-17 Atlanta around the time the WTBS call letters were new from late 1979. No copyright infringement intended.
Thanks for this post, I was a seven year old boy born in Atlanta, GA but raised in Decatur, GA my television stayed on channel 17 and channel 46 loved the old classic films, television shows and cartoons plus the commercials especially session records forget about it Thanks again for the memories
Gwen Sommers was a "looker". She's infamously remembered for uttering the words "OH SHIT", during a news update in the early 80's, when of course, she thought the camera wasn't on...
Wow - it's a flashback. I had forgotten about the "internationally reknowned" Roger Whitaker commercial. They ran that segment a lot back then. Some guy up the street from me bought the 8 track even though he had no idea who Roger was. He just thought it would be good. Channel 17 also used to promote Slim Whitman commercials. Of course a few years before they had the "Future Shock" show with James Brown.
Back in those days, when you ran a B/W movie, the color-burst was turned off on the film chain, so the recording breaks up every time it goes from the color slide to the movie.
I also checked the date of the football games, this was indeed Nov. 4, 1979. Did not know this was the start of the Iranian Hostage Crisis - that was just taking place as this aired. Nice catch!
According to Wiki WTBS "signed on" Nov 10. There was an existing WTBS licensed in MA prior to Nov 10. This vid must have been made before channel went "Super".
