It’s October 2009 and Woody Harrelson has a zombie comedy to promote. But before he can do so on THE LATE SHOW, David Letterman has something to share. And so after his monologue, Letterman took to his desk, telling those in the Ed Sullivan Theater that he had a story to share. No top 10 lists. No stupid pet tricks. No visits with Rupert Jee at the Hello Deli. For 10 minutes, Letterman laid it out. One morning he woke up to find an envelope in the back seat of his car and in it was proof that he had been having affairs with members of his female staff. This was as raw and stripped as David Letterman had ever allowed himself to be in decades on late night television. And it wasn’t Jay Leno or Les Moonves or any of his foes that caused it. It was David Letterman himself. But did this destroy his career and reputation? Was he able to bounce back? There are more than 10 reasons we chose our subject this week…So let’s find out: WTF Happened to…DAVID LETTERMAN?

one of favorite letterman bits ever, dave ran from his studio to live with regis and kathie lee and ran back. he actually did it. no camera cuts, stuntman or editing. the way it was shot, dave booked it across several blocks to their show.

Bill Hicks' act being banned from Late Night always pissed me off. Letterman did admittedly take full credit for the ban but had Hicks' mom on years later to apologize to her face which was sweet though.

Remember when Joaquin Phoenix came on with his beard and sunglasses and barely spoke to Letterman? That was a pretty funny interview. Probably around 2009.

as much as i dont like jay leno, both have a justifiable claim to the tonight show chair. johnny loved dave and wanted dave. he had followed his show. leno on the other hand was the defacto guest host. toward the end of his run, carson was working 2-3 days a week. the tonight show was like a part time gig for johnny.

I always liked David. I didn't care about the fooling around thing, and I felt bad that he had to admit it on air. That was obviously a difficult thing to do but he did it. Anyway, I hope he's enjoying his retirement, for all the fun and laughter he brought us he deserves it.

Yo JoBlo Letterman is great and all BUT he wasn't really the first or best choice for replacement. Joan Rivers was. She guest hosted way more than The Chin or Dave. In fact she was told by the Carson himself that she was going to be the one. Dave was 2nd and the Chin was his last choice.
@colerieger7300
@colerieger7300 11 дней назад
Carson didn't speak to Joan Rivers from 1986 until the day he died. Sure, she may have been at one point, but by the time he retired and it was actually time to hand the show over, his choice was Letterman.
