Hey guys! I actually need your help on this one! I can not for the life of me figure out what the value of this calendar is supposed to be🤣 It appears to be better than I originally thought which is great! Unfortunately it seems that we are missing a little bit of the promised product. But let me what you guys think and if you can figure out what the value is!! Love ya💖
But when you add up the value of the actual products it’s well over $90+ which is great but I am wracking my brain trying to figure out the 20% value they advertised! Like how did they come to that number??😂
I love that you actually took it out to see how much you get. It really puts it in perspective. If you wanted to do this going forward getting a scale could help. Could gestimate package weight and product. Either way I enjoyed seeing it :)
I feel like you should do a lot of these early. Before December. Most of the good ones would be sold out anyway. Or you should keep a tally of how many you order. 😂
Omg in all the time I’ve been using plum plump, it never occurred to me that the random crevice in the jar is there because it’s meant to be shaped like a plum 😂😂
@@Alexandria-Ryan 🤣 I didn't even catch that! Just one of those days I guess lol... but I am so glad to have this new video to watch and decompress from work! 💖
I actually think the spatula as the final day makes sense for this calendar because some of those products were so small that after using them for a few days you'll need the spatula to scrape the rest out.
It should have come with a hammer and a set of pliers, too, since they're not designed to be opened like that. Its a massive design flaw, scraping out the leftovers would have been a perfect use for the spatula.
I have been waiting my whole life for Alex to start measuring out what companies stay they are providing in their squeezy tubes. Especially when she says 'this feels empty'. Yes! Here comes the start to calling out companies even more for not providing what they say! I am 👏 LIVING👏 for this!
The puppies on the heating blanket has me smiling. I have a husky mix and she doesn't believe she's a snow dog. She cuddles on those heating blankets like she's never been warm in her life.
I really want Alex to get those Sterilite containers and organize what she’s gotten from subscriptions+ advents so we can truly know how many of these products are serial subscription products 😭😭
@@meganlovesdisneyandcrafts4780 hey let's cool it a little bit. This is a media channel, she didn't text Alexandria directly. It was clearly a light hearted statement, no need for the snark.
Don't feel bad lol I have masters degrees in biochemistry and biochemical engineering, very sciency and maths based degrees.......im mathematically dyslexic (dyscalculia) 😂 somehow I managed to pass with flying colours at the top of my classes and I still don't know my times table and I HATE numbers
I'm down for reviewing advent calendars throughout whole year! I cannot emphasise enough how much I enjoy your videos. You're so enthusiastic and entertaining - my favourite time of the day! Yay! 😉 Love from Croatia💙
Alexandria, I love the calendars. These videos are getting me through chemo! Please consider doing a big video where you open a couple in one video. Love after advent season, it's the best thing on RU-vid. 😊Thank you!
I love glow recipe. It's expensive, and there's so much to try, so for me, this calendar has value. The tiny bottles are called glow babies, and they sell them in build-your-own kits and a full set of all the babies. It's their first year doing a calendar! Apparently it sold out so fast that there's a waiting list for another run of them...they're sending them out in March 😂
Everything I've tried has been meh, and I prefer my ordinary & inkey list versions more. Love the fun scents & cute jars but not getting the obsession. Am enjoying lots of harmless knockoff watermelon humectant jelly products tho, lol, but I prefer my actual actives to be unscented and to minimize irritation.
I love some of their products but some I’m not a fan of, but they are overpriced for sure. I didn’t like their watermelon sleeping mask but I fcking couldn’t get enough of the avocado melt retinol sleeping mask. It’s just great if you have dry skin. It’s strong but I never woke up dry and crusty in the am. I also really like the dew drops. But I’m 100% enjoying the dewy feel & plumping look, bc I would never spend that kind of money for just niaminicide. Like evry k beauty serum or essmce I buy has niaminicide in it. But even though I enjoy especially the avocado melt, I can’t justify $60 when I’m already buying tretinoin. (Tho I did buy like 4-5 jars bc I had some discounts.) I think GR’a has some really solid products and they have products that work better for some skin types and some that work better for others. Like for me and my dry skin avocado melt is amazing but if you’ve got oily skin you may hate it. Just like I don’t love the newish BHA serum primer stuff. But except for the avocado melt I can get similar results and effect from other products. Like I get that dewy plump look but with added human stem cell extract for $26 from a J beauty brand. I really wish I could find a dupe for the avocado melt bc I love using it on the nights I’m taking a break from tree. If it was even $40 it would be holy grail.
I love Glow Recipe. Dont necessarily know if some of their products actually do anything (like the vitamic C brightening serum or avocado retinol mask) but the scent of the watermelon products are nice & the moisturizers/serums feel nice (if not slightly sticky) on the skin. They do keep upping their prices, which I can understand on one hand but on the other, we dont get a lot of product for the money (imo) so for ME, it is a luxury brand that I only get if I have the extra money. If I actually saw improvement in my skin, Id def justify buying their products more. The toner is my favorite, for sure. Edit: incredibly disappointing that you dont even get to use all the product in those tiny spray tubes, assuming they arent lying about how much is in each tube. For a company that took away the plastic spoons in the clay mask boxes, that are actually useful for spreading product without using your hands, they sure use a lot of plastic packaging, that you have to basically destroy if you want to open & use every bit of product...this wasnt as good as it's made out to be, I think...
Seriously?! Taking away applicators and then using a c-ton of plastic for 5ml samples. 🤦 Greenwashing who and virtuesignalling much, eh? I didn't have an opinion on GR before this video but this one thing made me put them on my naughty list for sure.
Thank you for bringing up the comparison of their fancy package to the value of the product! In the end, we can only use the product one or two times and then have to throw away the fancy packaging. I would rather have more product & less fancy packaging!
You should do one giant video of various advent calendars, if you have filming, editing time for that. 😂 I would definitely sit down and watch an hour long + video of you unboxing a bunch of calendars. Otherwise I'll continue watching them until you're done with them lol. I love your videos, and never miss one. 😊
I think I prefer them spread out. Though I'm sure Alex now has a giant pile of subscription boxes waiting for a big opening party vid soon. I love to see those lol
Oh man!!!!! I was on board until u broke out the measuring spoons. I absolutely detest when u can’t scrap out all of the product. I’ll often give it to hubby to pry open some how. Alex don’t buy that next year
Growing up (which was the only time I ever had advent calendars) we always did them as a countdown to Christmas. (Inverse numerical order.) Not that it mattered much because every day was the same piece of chocolate, lol!
The size of that spoon and the hole so you can wear it takes me back to my youth. When coke spoons were like that. Just the spoons were quite a bit smaller back then.
Who counts DOWN on an advent calendar? They're supposed to match up to the day of the month, which means counting UP - at least for 24/25 day ones, 12 day ones is different because that would be from Dec 26th thru Jan 6th which is the traditional '12 days of Christmas' (Jan 6th is Epiphany, the day the 3 wise men were said to have arrived at the manger with their gifts)
I'm confused. If they don't sell it on the site, doesn't that mean it's a sample size? I thought samples were free? But I'm a boomer, so I'm probably out of touch. I share your mathing problems. When I calculate something in my head, I'm genuinely surprised and proud of myself. Sometimes I'll even say, "I mathed in my head!" So, I get it. And the people that suggested you go backwards may be onto something. Might be fun for one or two advent calendars. Thanks for the smiles. You always, always brighten my day.
Has anyone had any skin reactions after using glow recipe? 😭 I wanted to love this brand cuz all I’ve seen online is amazing reviews. Plus their products especially the watermelon stuff smells sooo amazing.. but me & several friends had bad skin reactions/ & irritation. I’m curious if other people have had that? Maybe we’re just allergic to specific ingredient or something
Maybe you are supposed to count down to 1. Old advent calendars when we were kids were a count-down to Christmas. LIke day 5 meant 5 days left until Christmas.
Girl...don't let your love of tiny stuff take away from giving them the what-for for putting an unnecessary spoon in as the last day! This is just as bad as a single vitamin.
Hi sweet girl, the boys look so snug! I’m sorry but I think what you got is not worth much! I’m lousy at math too so I can’t help you there! I’m very proud of you for how educated you are because I know that took a lot of hard work & dedication!! Stay safe! Love & hugs!❤️🐾🐾
@@Alexandria-Ryan me either! Did you know there’s a thing called “number dyslexia”?! I really think I have it 😱I’ve never been able to do anything involving them 😆
I think you were very gracious over the hair clips and spatula! I would've been hopping mad 😅 I love your videos because it's like a giant girl party with thousands of your besties! 🎉
Honestly, kinda seems like they are putting them in better quality packaging so that they CAN use less product. Noone would question how much they ACTUALLY got when it comes in better quality packaging, where as they would notice if it was in a foil pack or squeezy tube.
I was listening to the radio around christmas and they had an advent calendar "expert" on and she said the definitive answer was "CoUnT BaCkwArDs fRoM 24 to1" LOL - NO!! It's a CALENDAR!! A calendar, as in 1 - 24. Now, this misunderstanding may be why some advents have dopey little gadgets in number 24 or number 12, but I say they are wrong!@ 😁
I always do advent calendar as “days until Christmas” so if there’s 25 boxes, I begin with 25 (days until Christmas). That’s why you would have begun with a spatula. That’s still lame to me but better than it being the last day
I really like glow recipe, but those small tubes are so boring compared to their regular packaging! that so disappointing. Also, pro tip with the hydrating spray, use it as soon as possible. It's probably one of their most unstable product and it tends to spoil quite fast. when it spoils it starts to look yellow-ish and smells sour.
They are saying you get this box for 20% off the value 100% - 20% = 80% or .80 So the value times .80 (or 80%) is the purchase price of $75. Value*.80= $75 Divide both halves by .80 to move all the math to one side Value=$75/.80 or Value=$93.75 We can double check the math by plugging the answer in. $93.75 *.80 = $75
I double loved the banana soufflé cream this line had first. When they discontinued it I decided ok I’ll try the plum plump. I have combo skin that goes more oily and it was a nightmare. It sat on top of my skin and looked like an oil slick. Other people swear by it. Just like any other product, different skin types get different results. But it’s made me hesitant to try anything else from them.
Hello Alexandria. 😅😅😅 In London, we don't like fog😅😅 Fog is horrible 😅😅. It is because we have pollution 😅😅. Jane in New Zealand 🇬🇧🇳🇿. PS New Zealand is fog free. Glow Recipe need to change their descriptions.
You and many others are too easily swayed by exactly what you said the cute outer packaging of the advent calendar adds value.AND THATS WHY YOU GET SAMPLES INSIDE!!!because people are so happy with a pretty box, especially when it has drawers, that we will forgive, stickers and samples more often if that packaging rocks, and that should NOT be acceptable when they ALREADY have those samples in stock, the only thing most often they create or give you that's unique is that box and it should not be the thing that sells the advent calendar. We need to start holding companies accountable for what's inside those calendars, look at P Louise and even Harrods, yes you pay more but you KNOW you are curated a full experience of full size products and unique different things AND a great box to keep.
If 20% off the value is $75, thats 75*1.25= $93.75 20% is 1/5 of the total. That means $75 is 4/5 of the total. That's why you add 1/4 of the $75 back to find the original value.
Maybe they are just counting the cost of the items you can buy on their site and the rest are feebie samples. I wish every calendar would do that, only calculate what is a sellable size.
‼️ 12 day advent calendars are made to go backwards…like the 12 days of Christmas song.‼️ Also…those “butts” are suppose to look like plums. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
OMG!! Pls do get this advent calendar it’s literally soooooo worth it, cause I did the math and the value is around $146 and the advent calendar only coast $75 so your making up to $71 profit and with that money you can buy another glow recipe Callander. This advent calendar is so worth it. the value/profit is crazyyyyy! Hope this comment helps .❤❤
Who is this for? I realize there are some grown women out there who would enjoy fruity products, but I don't think the vast majority would. (HARD no for me.) But because it's all skin care, it's also not necessarily geared towards 9-13 year olds, which is what it looks like the target demographic is from the packaging and scents. I just don't get it. I wouldn't even gift this to my teen niece because I would be worried about all the scented products making her skin break out. I'm legitimately baffled.
I can’t stand melon, avocado, and pink grapefruit scents, but I really like rose. Different strokes, I guess. This brand probably isn’t for me. Also, I got a PhD and two Masters without taking a single math class. Numbers aren’t important in every discipline!
I was excited and almost purchased this one, but wow that was disappointing… way too many freebie sized samples 😢 it is funny tho, you upload this the same day Ipsy releases a glow recipe edit. $80 for 5 full sized items and 1 deluxe size sample (but it’s still 25ml!). 🙃 this Edit thing is a WAY better deal 😮
I just saw a Valentine's "Advent" calendar a couple of days ago...I think it was in Temu & it immediately brought to mind the Advent unboxing vids you make. ❤
I was really curious about this one. I have a full size of the Plum Plump and it cleared up my forehead texture. It actually is refillable so you just buy the plastic pots and don't need to rebuy the glass container. They literally pop in the pot and peel the lid off. Also I don't want to press about medical things but have you had a blood panel done (ANA specifically). I just thought I'd mention it because it was overlooked and I was basically gaslit by doctors for ages. I have Lupus and it didn't go over my nose like a butterfly like you were saying and I had a massive flare at 19. I was a little worried because your dogs having medical issues would literally throw me into a flare. (I'm in a full remission now 10+ years after a dx.). I noticed someone else with Lupus also caught that in your comments too.
Ipsy/ Boxy Charm is having a Glow Recipe edit sale where you get 6 full size products and a bag for $79, I am just saying if anyone is looking to buy this that might be a better value.
Well it's not often that you see a calendar that's worth MORE than the promised value. Good on glow recipe, but maybe a marketing mistake on their part? Either way, this calendar feels like a good one. One of the only ones that's under $100 and it offers good value.
When it comes to the tiny samples, at least if they're in squeezy tubes (you can get those little tube squeezer devices, and what you can't squeeze out you can always cut it open) or tiny pots you can get most of the product out. When it comes to the ones with pumps, you have no way of knowing how far down the tube inside goes. As for the spatula, it makes no flipping sense in day 12. Imagine getting to day 12 and you used potentially all or most of your products and _then_ you get the spatula! 💀🤦😭 I also don't think it should have been a day's product on its own, they could have put it in the same door as the first pot or with the hair clips. It does seem they calculated value on only items you could purchase, so not including having to do the maths for tiny samples; which is...a refreshing change. I was also wondering if you had got around to trying any of the KP stuff you've received, and if so what your experiences were, if you have any recs?
Yeah I’m assuming they didn’t count the samples towards the value… which makes sense especially since their samples weren’t the full amount. That’s how every calendar should be. Samples have NO retail value!
I've tested the (nearly pure?) powdered hyalorinic acid at a store. You just mix a bit of water in it and you get the thing. It smells almost like nothing. If you were smelling stomach acids, there's defo something wrong with the product.
5 ml is one teaspoon, 15 ml is one tablespoon, I'm looking at the size of the packaging and comparing it to the amount of product as it would look in my baking measuring spoons and it just isn't adding up, lol. I'd think the extra money spent on packaging would have been better spent on giving a little more product in a squeezy tube instead. That's my opinion at least. Edit: I made my comment before the measuring spoon segment, and wow, they didn't even give the amount stated on the packaging. Kind of makes me wonder how often companies shortchange their customers on how much product they actually put in the packaging versus what they say should be in it.
Hi. I'm as bad as you are with math. Brain dead! I don't think I would pay that much for a 12 day calendar. There are a few products that are full size though. I have a tiny glow recipe face thing. It's really nice. Much love and cuddles to the precious fur babies.
The skin turns over on average every 28-30 days, so we truly do not know if most products are doing their thing until then. The amount of product received in those containers is abysmal. You would think companies would give you at least a couple of week’s worth to really try them out prior to committing.
Yeah, I'm not a fan of the amount of plastic waste with those tiny little bottles. And reading the comments it seems like you can buy those in build your own or sets so it's not just like a "for xmas" thing. That's a lot of waste for such little product (and kind of scammy seeming since they're basically trial, or less, size amounts.) None of that is appealing to me for the price they're asking too when you can get good skincare for a lot less cost but it's just not "cute."
Yeah I pretty much figure the minutes all just lie about what you get. I figure they say oh you get this much product, but what they mean is the total weight including the plastic so like take that spoon full of stuff and then weigh it with the plastic. So if you have a small scale put the one you haven’t emptied on it and see if it weighs the exact amount they say altogether. I bet that’s exactly what they mean when they say it is 5 oz, 3 oz of product 2 oz of plastic
I adore Advent calendar season, we could do this all year long. I will say that for a 12 day calendar to get hair clips is a little disappointing. and getting the spatula is also disappointing. And getting it on day number 12 is definitely topsy-turvy.
Listening to you talk about your facial redness and knowing you’ve been sick a lot, may want to get checked for lupus if you haven’t yet. It could be the malar butterfly rash with lupus.
