You're literally describing Caesar's and Luffy's crew. It's different ofc since one is genuine and the other is manipulative. And we just saw how it works in hard times. Luffy's crew will always survive.

SPOILERS BELOW, DON'T READ IF STILL IN DRESSROSA: He doesn't make a concerted effort to protect his subordinates and is unbothered by their demises. Doffy gets upset when his crew is hurt and seeks retribution. For the entire life of the crewmembers, they believe they are being protected by Doflamingo, but unlike Caesar's subordinates, they are right (only talking about the Don Quixote Family here, not the grunts). He goes to great lengths to protect them. We see this on several occasions. Unlike with Caesar where the members only think they are safeguarded (but in fact have a pretty short life expectancy under his care), the members of Doflamingo's crew are certainly safeguarded by him; there is nearly no distinction between the care he shows for his own subordinates and the care that crews of the Worst Generation have for theirs. TBH, I went through a lot of Dressrosa thinking he cared for his crew as a family, as he said. The moment Law discovers Don Quixote's true mind (more than his own "family") is when Doffy reveals he needs to 'educate' law in order to die for him, i.e., love is only a means to an end in his mind. From a crewmate's perspective, it may even be preferable to be in Doffy's crew than, say, Garp's list of loved ones. I think Doffy would sooner defy his position to save a crew member than Garp, even though Garp has genuine love. I'd say Doffy is a prime example of a psycopath. He can imitate personal relationships and love, often better than those who genuinely feel it, as a way of manipulation for personal gain, and if you feel more loved from fake love than you do from real love, and you are more protected and healthier from fake love than from real love (like, say, the difference between a stepmom that treats you with the love you need but really only out of love for your father, and an abusive alcoholic parent that loves you but can't show it, not a perfect analogy but I can't think of a better one), how is it distinguishable as a crewmate?

@@williambintzer8128 ok I see, it's deeper than I thought Well Luffy's case is quite special on his own, and totally surrealist in the criminal world. SPOILERS FOR OTHERS I think Doffy isn't really considered as a true family member as well from the others He's clearly special. A celestial dragon with conqueror abilities, and a genius with charisma. He doesn't need that family play to keep his guys in check. But as you said, it seems to be more productive that way, so Doffy goes along with it. But the others as well think that way imo. See how they call him "young master". He is superior, and their "stairway to heaven". Doffy is "manipulated" as well (at least most of them think so). Since all of them want to keep this relationship, imo they are somehow crewmates, altogether for a common goal. Difference is it comes from selfish reasons.
